文華東方嘅afternoon tea一向都好出名,睇食評個個讚好,今次終於有機會試一試真偽。不試由自可,一試就⋯⋯失望到~我唔會再黎。首先,個鬆餅完全無牛油香,作為一位scone迷,食過無數鬆餅,文華呢個同食雞蛋餅差不多,係質感少少唔同,玫瑰醬幾特別但味道普通咸食方面,有三文治夾Parma ham,味道過得去,普通Parma ham缺乏香味,仲食落有腥;三文魚極咸,細細啖已經咸到~完全食唔到!吉烈豬扒嗰個味道ok,但其實tea set根本唔適合炸野,可能放耐,比較難咬輪到甜點,以我所知,文華嘅cake係出名嘅,但經過今日,我好懷疑...可能獨立賣既cake先會用心做。afternoon tea啲甜求其到,朋友同我完全食唔落嗰幾件甜品,两個字:難食!講真同自己食堆糖入口差不多,絕對唔需要二百幾黎呢度。我真心希望可以回水,相當意外作為一間五星級酒店食物水準奇低,呢個伏好堅秋。

咸食方面,有三文治夾Parma ham,味道過得去,普通Parma ham缺乏香味,仲食落有腥;三文魚極咸,細細啖已經咸到~完全食唔到!吉烈豬扒嗰個味道ok,但其實tea set根本唔適合炸野,可能放耐,比較難咬

輪到甜點,以我所知,文華嘅cake係出名嘅,但經過今日,我好懷疑...可能獨立賣既cake先會用心做。afternoon tea啲甜求其到,朋友同我完全食唔落嗰幾件甜品,两個字:難食!講真同自己食堆糖入口差不多,絕對唔需要二百幾黎呢度。我真心希望可以回水,相當意外作為一間五星級酒店食物水準奇低,呢個伏好堅秋。

今天到文華的Cafe causette 吃午餐,不是為了海南雞飯,而是為了 Carbonara和餐廳送的麵包。Lunch time 有很多人,所以環境比較嘈吵。這就是餐廳送的麵包,旁邊的香草橄欖油是精粹。個人比較喜歡之前哪款,問侍應才知道麵包會定期轉換款式。吃不到之前那款麵包真的有些失望。這就是之前來的時候送的麵包,外皮較香脆,賣相也較吸引。炸魚薯條的魚肉很厚身,但外皮比較硬,不夠鬆脆。薯條就不介紹了,一看就知道普通得很。另一主角出埸,文華的Carbonara 是暫時吃過的餐廳中味道最好的,但女友不喜歡煙肉的肥肉,幾乎把所有的煙肉都挑了出來,很好笑。

另一主角出埸,文華的Carbonara 是暫時吃過的餐廳中味道最好的,但女友不喜歡煙肉的肥肉,幾乎把所有的煙肉都挑了出來,很好笑。

Three weeks ago, I started hearing about Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong’s special collaboration with Vienna’s famous Café Central and Julius Meinl coffee. Won't that be something. I have always been a huge fan of the vibrant European café scene and this is one of the oldest institution in Austria. I am sure mom would be interested too.

During this collaboration or cross-over, both Clipper Lounge and Café Causette will be serving a selection of Café Central's traditional homemade pastries accompanied by Julius Mienl coffee. Time to get our hands dirty on the sweet stuff now. What we have here are bite-sized versions of the famous Viennese sweet treats including from left to right, Esterházy cake, a sponge cake with delicious butter cream; their signature Sachertorte, a traditional chocolate cake with apricot jam; Marmorgugelhupf, a marble bundt cake that is tender and buttery and last but not least, Café Central Gâteau, a layered chocolate cake with marzipan, orange and exotic spices.

With guest pâtissier Johannes Warmuth in the house, I thought we owe it to ourselves to try at least one of Café Central's famed pastries (no, not the bite-sized versions). We ended up getting this Zwetschgen-Mohn, a type of Austrian poppy plum short cake. The plum flavors were really nice and strong with what I thought was a bit of wine backing it up. Very good.

這件Sachertorte濕潤香滑,朱古力香夠濃郁。而微酸的薄薄杏脯醬夾心剛好為這件蛋糕多帶來一個層次。

飲品方面,我先飲杯鮮榨果汁清新一下。先從10種水果中選出喜歡的,再自由配搭8款莓及香草類,我就選了紅菜頭拼藍莓、薄荷與薑 ($82)。入口淡淡的紅菜頭香,拼上薄荷與薑的香辣,不錯。

Wiener Melange ($68),是在濃縮咖啡中加入了牛奶,飲起來咖啡與奶香平衡,而且賣相跟足奧地利當地咖啡廳傳統,伴以一杯水。這個維也納風休閒下午,真是相當滿足。

最後,當然要來一個甜品, 才能為整頓飯有一個完美的結束! 特濃朱古力蛋糕配威士忌雪糕crispy chocolate devil cake with whisky ice cream,$88)令人一試難忘! 難怪朱古力蛋糕一直是MO既招牌甜品~~ 而最特別的是威士忌雪糕,淡淡的威士忌味道在口裡揮發,就像真的在品嚐whisky一樣~ 暫時是我沒有在其他地方找在~.(推介)

約左响中環做野嘅朋友食飯, 想坐得舒服d,食得好d,所以去附近mandarin cafe causette。我想食burger,朋友order日式豬扒飯。首先嚟個芝士包配pesto醬,味道一般。我order左個classic burger , 另外再加cheddar cheese, 我以為會有fries, 點知只係得兩片酸瓜, 咁都唔只,個burger好細(女孩子角度而言),而塊麵包皮仲大過個塊burger beef,肉又乾,冇肉香味,以為MO水準一定有番咁上下, 仲要成200蚊一個,好失望。我朋友個豬扒飯都唔見得好去邊, 豬扒入口時係幾香,但係肉質又乾又鞋, 點睇都唔值 酒店價錢。冇錯,我地係坐得好舒服,但係食物咁既質素令人好失望,下次寧願去旁邊的Alfie's或Cova。

我朋友個豬扒飯都唔見得好去邊, 豬扒入口時係幾香,但係肉質又乾又鞋, 點睇都唔值 酒店價錢。

冇錯,我地係坐得好舒服,但係食物咁既質素令人好失望,下次寧願去旁邊的Alfie's或Cova。

Cafe Causette一直以其價錢不菲的午餐海南雞飯馳名,海南雞之滑是以差不多三百大元換來的。我亦於晚市時段試過Causette其他簡單菜式,如日式鰻魚飯,晚市會送上一條長長熱呼呼的新鮮芝士麵包,二百元內可有交易,味道中上但未至於特別深刻。別誤會,其實我也是Cafe Causette的常客粉絲。試過數款菜式,我還是覺得Cafe Causette的下午茶最為出眾。 法文Causette的意思為聊天、談心。女人談心,需要的正正是一壺茶、一件鬆餅、甜品一客。每一次來跟姊妹談心,我也愛點Tea Scones (HKD88)。文華東方(簡稱MO)的玫瑰Jam為另一馳名之作,很多人也會特意買MO獨立銷售的玫瑰果醬回家。以前試過在Clipper Lounge吃英式下午茶,吃到那英式鬆餅時一試難忘。原來,鬆餅亦可在Cafe Causette單點,八十八元兩件送你鬆餅、Clotted Cream和玫瑰果醬。昂貴與否,這真的是見人見至,但總比三百元的英式下午茶便宜。有人說我們重口味,但我跟姊妹都愛大大匙把Clotted Cream和果醬塗在鬆餅上,誓要把果醬吃清光。除了英式鬆餅後,我也特愛藍莓芝士蛋糕

除了英式鬆餅後,我也特愛藍莓芝士蛋糕(HKD108)。芝士粉絲一定要點這個!這個的份量比鬆餅大,每一啖的芝士味都很濃烈,第三啖也已飽了。幸好雪糕帶酸酸的藍莓味,中和芝士的膩。

但最屈機的甜品非蘋果金寶(HKD108)莫屬。以煎pan呈上的Apple Crumble,我真的還是第一次遇到。份量大得驚人,兩個人也恐怕不能把它吃完.....這個Apple Crumble偏向蘋果酸味,餅碎脆梆梆,配合雲哩嗱雪糕就剛剛好。也許有人喜歡甜一點的蘋果金寶,但這個煎PAN Crumble正正是我杯茶,一口一口的吃,不知不覺,我也成功把它全放進肚子裡。我在想,我是不是把一整個星期的蘋果都已放進身體內?這時候,醫生廣告「一日一蘋果,醫生遠離我」又再次浮現。一日七蘋果,我一定長命百歲!

餐廳內都是以sharing為主,由頭盤到主菜也是,而且份量剛好小小的,可以及吃多幾款。既然加入了這麼多中式元素,便由【薑蔥蒸生蠔】開始。平常真的很少會吃蒸的,不是生食,就是焗或炸的,蒸的真的很少見,以薑及蔥來辟去腥味是一貫中式的做法,加上蒸魚豉油的味道,是很鮮美的。

接著來一個香辣的醒胃一下,【四川香辣雞】其實做得不錯,質地恰到好處,軟硬適中有彈性,而且調味酸酸辣辣,的確開胃。

主菜方面,先來一個【英式炸魚薯條】來滿足一下大家的胃口。炸魚表面炸得金黃香脆,內裡則很嫩滑,配合粗身的薯條,是不錯的。

可是,友人十分喜愛吃【印式蕃茄咖哩雞、印度香飯】,皆因文華的咖哩一向帶保證,我則是第一次吃。咖哩很香,辣度適中,真是美味的,不過感覺上咖哩有點單調,好像有點孤寡。

最後總要點甜品來作結,以前是喜歡芝士蛋糕的,可是現在轉了口味,喜歡上【bread & butter pudding】,以酥皮麵包來做,在質感上已勝出一籌,牛油味香濃,布甸又滑溜,加上冰凍的雪糕,滋味無窮。

此店afternoon tea 的評價好,故此來試試虛實。預早訂了位子,一到步就能入座。由於是星期四閒日的下午,用餐的人不算太多。我們一行四人,點了兩個二人Tea Set:沒有拍下餐牌,已忘了大部分的食品。如此精緻的咸、甜點,賣相十分吸引。除了中層那一件深色糕點,有點像英式聖誕布甸,由於有很多乾果,對我來説太甜了。其他的味道如賣相一様,非常好。另外,還有提子和原味鬆餅,配上玫瑰花醬,非常棒。食品精美,座位舒適,服務一流。唯一美中不足的是每枱的距離太近。

如此精緻的咸、甜點,賣相十分吸引。除了中層那一件深色糕點,有點像英式聖誕布甸,由於有很多乾果,對我來説太甜了。其他的味道如賣相一様,非常好。

另外,還有提子和原味鬆餅,配上玫瑰花醬,非常棒。

二百多元一客海南雞飯,酒店嘛,尤其是五星級,絕對要這個價錢,嫌貴的話,請到別處,食米,要知價。當然,如果貨不對辦,物非所值,才罵,還未遲。

經常浸煮後的雞肉,雞皮的彈性,嫩滑悉數保留,皮下肉亦然,肥瘦適中,嫩滑而不老,水準之作。

Causette of Mandarin Oriental had once been my first choice of dining place after work if I hadn't made any advance plan for dinner in Central. It’s because table would usually available and food quality was rather stable. In their previous menu, fra gois terrine serving in a jar, curry and Indonesia fried rice had been my comfort dishes. However, their food has been declining in this recent year.  Yesterday, I re-organised the photo album, I found pictures of dishes we had there back in early August and decided to share my comments here.

At that time, they launched special menu on lobster. There were five of us and we picked different combinations of dishes from that special menu. Originally, we found their menu pretty creative and it was fun to have lobsters in different styles, ranging from Chinese, East Asia, Japanese, European and American. However, we unanimously found their dishes disappointing. I picked lobster with soup noodle as my main course. The stock was lukewarm and had no seasoning, noodle didn’t absorb the stock and thus tasteless, the lobster was rather dry.  For me, a good noodle soup must be served hot and aromatic.   

For main course, I had the grilled stuffed lobster which came in half. There were not much lobster flesh in the stuff, and cooking was mediocre. Among dishes ‘enjoyed’ by my friends that evening, the Club sandwich was most terrible. The toast was soaky, it may be because the dish stayed in kitchen for too long before bringing to our table. Also, I would expect there should be more lobster meat, use crispy bacon rather than ham, and more tasty mayonnaise. I was not sure if it’s because the kitchen had problem in entertaining so many dishes in one time, but I remember that the restaurant was not quite full that evening.

女人最中意食TEA,所以好多TEA SET 都會整得好精緻或者好lady去吸引人!宜家酒店既tea就俾我感覺得好低調, 一點唔grad!SCORN有原味及提子味兩款,最特別係配有玫瑰醬!玫瑰味濃淡得宜,唔會好似食緊香精咁!簡單三層式既架 放上了鹹點同甜點如果中意食甜品既女生, 應該會很失望, 因為只有幾件蛋糕,TEA SET較多鹹點!上層以鹹點為主 中間放左幾件小巧既蛋糕  下層則放三文治最好味係果紅桑子蛋糕, 蛋糕鬆軟帶微酸很令人開胃!

This is Mandarin Oriental's most down-to-earth restaurant with the ultimate comfort foods, making it one of my preferred choices for lunch take-aways on busy days. But there are many dishes I like that are best consumed on the premise. Since today is a public holiday and I wasn't expecting to work in the office for too long, I came here for a proper meal.

The last time I sat in was before attending a violin concert at the Concert Hall about a month ago. I came mostly because I missed the apple crumble and blueberry pancakes, but when we were finished with our mains, the waiter came to tell us that the final apple crumble of the evening has gone to the lady sitting next to us. I was very disappointed and have been hoping to come back for it ever since.

Cafe Causette's menu aggregates the most popular dishes from various Chinese regions, South-east Asia, continental Europe and Britain. It also has great quality coffee and a diverse and inspired selection of desserts.

Hoping to try something new, I chose the coq au vin and ordered apple crumble way in advance to make sure I don't miss it this time. I also had a cappuccino. As I have been trying to perfect the coq au vin at home myself, I paid special attention to how the chef had executed the dish. The braised French chicken was not only very tender, but the flavor of the mushroom highlighted the meatiness of the chicken and the red wine brings just enough acidity for balance. This was a great dish and I would recommend it. (In my opinion much better than the Hainan Chicken rice--supposedly Cafe Causette's signature.)

The apple crumble at Mandarin's Cafe Causette is a bit different from the ordinary apple crumble--they have berries and hazelnut and, instead of vanilla, they use coconut ice cream. The apple crumble is served on a hot iron pan and I just love the crunchiness of apple crumble and how the cold of the ice cream goes with the freshly baked hot cake crumble. I only had two bites as this gives me a lot of trouble for digestion, but I was very satisfied and happy. 

Finally--the cappuccino. Not much comment as the coffee is perfect as always. They froth the milk with great skill and the coffee/milk balance is right on spot so that the cappuccino has a smokey aroma to it without being overly bitter or milky. 

If you are looking for a comfortable place to spend time with friends without paying too much, this is a great choice because the tables are not crowded like most restaurants in Central, and since this is a cafe the atmosphere is very casual.

The goal was to hit up the grill room for breakfast, after seeing a ridiculous looking video clip uploaded to the WOM guide where they served a tableside ham and eggs (upscaled via Iberico ham and perhaps duck eggs, over some delicious looking salad). Unfortunately they were closed, so the only other choice for hot food was Cafe Causette.The experience overall was quite pleasant. Unfortunately they were closed, so the only other choice for hot food was Cafe Causette.

The experience overall was quite pleasant. Not busy at all but there was still a moderate wait of about 5 minutes. We were lead to a table further back from the reception area. After that it was fairly smooth sailing.

This is Central, and it's the Mandarin hotel, so do not be surprised by sticker shock. 

Cafe Au Lait was fairly textbook in nature, but well executed. Perhaps it cannot compare to a proper French bistro. I was glad I didn't pay hotel prices for a Starbucks...

The egg florentine was somewhere in the mid price range of their breakfast choices, some a touch too much for me to spend. The side of sauce (Hollandaise?) was nicely done, but I really really enjoyed the style of poached egg, where the egg white was so damn fluffy. I live in California and I have yet to taste an egg done like this, which goes to show the level of skill and effort put in, even for a hotel restaurant like this in HK, is significantly higher than where I am from. The only way to get an egg done like this where I am from, is to go to some out of the way place, or a fancy upscale restaurant. It's pretty sad.

I did not taste the ricotta pancake, but my friend enjoyed it. The presentation of serving it in a skillet is quite unusual, but it works.

The breakfast here is nothing earth shattering, but if you are seeking a place off the street and want to indulge in conversation with your dining compadres, in a hotel, with comfortable surroundings and adequate service, this is not a bad choice.
