Chinese cuisine is amazing and diverse. Though most people only know Cantonese, there are actually eight very distinctive styles. Fuijan cuisine is one of them. This cuisine focuses more on the original flavor of the ingredients. Taste is more stronger with a mix of spicy, sweet and sour. I guess the closest comparison to a well known example of Fuijan cuisine is Taiwan as most of it's population are Fuijan in origin.Boyfriend and I love Chinese food. So we decided to try out Putien. Boyfriend and I love Chinese food. So we decided to try out Putien. Originating from Singapore, Putien serves a more modernized version of Fuijan food. They have several locations but as I was near where boyfriend lived, we decided to eat at the Hollywood Plaza branch.
Layout of the restaurant is simplistic. A more casual modern setting. Tables are a bit cramped together but oddly chairs didn't bump and there was easy enough movement to get in and out. Menu is in English and Chinese with photos of everything.
Putien Style Bian Rou Soup with Vinegar ($78). We started off with a soup that I liked more than boyfriend. There were little Fuzhou fish dumplings that is honestly a favorite thing of mine as they are bouncy and tasty with a mix of fish meat and pork. The soup was a mix of sweet and sour as there was vinegar added to it.
