It’s my second time dining in AMMO. Last time about several months earlier, I had afternoon high tea with my friends there. It was not a good experience, as there was road construction work right outside the restaurant. This time, we had 5 of us for lunch. The table they arranged was a bit small for us. We selected our dishes from the set lunch menu, which offered 3 options for the appetizers and main dishes (which were all pasta) respectively, and 2 options for desserts. The choices offered in the set lunch menu were balanced and attractive. For starter, I had the ham with sardinia bread, quail egg, and melon shooter. The presentation of this dish was very appealing, items were of bite-sized. It’s good to start a meal with the melon shooter as mouth amuser. I chose the tagliolini with John Dory, capers, black olives and basil sauce as my main dish. The portion was generous and ingredients were of high quality. I am not sure of the tagliolini (a kind of long cylindrical egg pasta) here was fresh-made or not, anyway the pasta and the sauce was tasty and aromatic. John Dory (white-flesh fish) was served in small fillets and the meat was fresh and buttery. But, my friends and I all found the pasta dishes rather salty, I thought part of the salty taste came from the capers. Then I had the passion fruit tart with sorbet. I am sorry to say that the tart reminded me of the lemon tart from Pacific Coffee.
I could see that the restauranteur and the interior designer have tried making the place look stylish and classy. But since the place is not really that big, I find the decor a bit over-done and ‘busy’. Also, I am a very sound-sensitive person, and don’t like the extensive use of floor-to-ceiling glass panels, metal materials and mirrors which reflect sound, making the place very noisy. Taking the opportunity, I have to thank my friend, Miss V. for treating us the lunch and it’s always nice to have re-unions and lunches with friends in new places.
