We sat down at the bar table, so for the entire meal we were able to watch at how the different dishes were prepared. It was pretty amazing since each dish was arranged in a special way. Presentation counts!
Started off by taking a look at the drinks menu. There was quite a lot of options, but we opted for the sangria.
Although I only had a sip, it was good. I have't tried a sangria with a creamy layer before, but it worked well together as the cream itself tasted of grape. I would have liked it even more if it was more fruity.
Onto the food... there were so many options to choose from! There were a variety of meats and seafood, and also daily specials which were written on the blackboard-wall. I easily decided on the Iberico pork and foie gras burger, because I've been told that it's good.
I didn't have to wait long until the two mini burgers arrived. The thing about tapas is that it comes in small portions which make it look adorable. And also you could share with a bunch of friends and try a variety of dishes. (although your wallet might suffer a bit after) The burger itself was delicious. I enjoyed every bite of the patty and although the taste of Iberico pork was distinctively stronger than the foie gras, the idea of the two mixed together is heavenly. Accompanying the burgers was a small serving of avocado sauce and kimchi. The kimchi could have been better, but the avocado sauce was refreshing and went well with the dish.
This mushroom-like dessert is actually meringue and ice-cream. Surrounding it is the essence of the dish, being different textures of chocolate. I found this dish very creative and unexpected (there was candy which 'exploded' in your mouth - talk about different textures!).
I must say I'm happy I finally tried this place out. My favourite out of all the dishes was the burger, definitely worth trying!
剛坐下,waitress隨即問一句:Sparkling or still?
A last minute decision to come have dinner here with a friend since she really wanted to try 22 ships. Luckily, we came around 7 and no wait! We got seated right away but had to change table after we ordered since they had a big party coming in. But the waiter was nice enough to give us sangrias on the house! =) We then moved to the bar table to sit. Honestly, I enjoy the bar area better because you get to see the chefs in action and also interact with them. The staffs are very friendly and supe

This is one of their more popular dishes. The egg mixture is soft and gooey and the chorizo is very flavorful with the perfectly cooked potatoes. Very yummy dish!
This is a great appetizer and if you love dips. It's a very smooth paste but filled with great flavors. You can especially taste the cod if you love that fishy taste. The thin crispy toast served on the side is very good too.
I enjoyed this paella so much that we ordered it again this time. The dressing is so tasteful and the squid is cooked so perfectly that it's not chewy. The rice also has a lot of flavouring but light enough for you to keep wanting more.
Suckling pig, roasted apple with spices, piquillo pepper
I usually dont like pigs that's cooked this way because I feel like they are usually really fattening. But surprisingly I loved this dish from 22 ships. The skin is thin and very crispy. The meat is so soft it just pulls apart when you cut into it. The sweet sauce it's served in compliments the meat very well too.
As I was chit chatting with the chef, she told us the dessert menu changes about every month. So if you are a dessert lover like me, you can come back every month to try out something new! This dessert was visually soo appealing! I love how creative it is. But it's basically different type of chocolate made into different textures and mixed in to combine into a dessert. The mushroom look a like is made out of ice cream on the bottom and a meringue on top. This is a must order if you go this month!!
carrot sorbet, tapioca & sesame stems (also forgot the name =P)
This dessert is light & refreshing. Especially the carrot sorbet is tangy but you can still taste the carrot flavoring. The tapioca on the bottom adds textures to the sorbet and the sasame paste is freshly frozen into stems with dry ice! So it's very rich in flavor. Never knew these 3 things would taste good together, but 22 ships made it work.
This is peanut butter lovers heaven! It's served with peanut butter ice cream, peanut butter crisps on the bottom, and caramel popcorns, with different grape flavour jellies. When you take a bite of everything together, it really reminds you of having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
22 ships always give you a new surprise everytime you go. I dont think you can get sick of this tapas spot.
題外話/補充資料:
Although the sangria is on the house, I had to point out that they weren't that good. I wouldn't order it again if I come. It's very bland and the white foam they spray on top doesn't add anything to the drink all together.

As the city becomes fascinated with Spanish cuisine (as demonstrated by the opening of BCN, Boqueria and Eclectic), 22 Ships became known for its creative modern tapas. The decor is contemporary and stylish, complete with bar tables and a small al fresco dining area. The vibe is hip and upbeat, and the young and enthusiastic staff have been well briefed on the tapas served at this haunt.
22 Ships follows the latest trend of a no-reservation and no-service charge policy. The restaurant is so popular that if you come at 8pm, the waiting time could be up to 2 hours. I came the restaurant at 6pm on a Saturday night as soon as it opened, and watched in horror as the 35 seats filled up within just 10 minutes. I thought that no one else (except for myself, of course) would be sad enough to have dinner at 6pm on a Saturday night, but it seems like Hong Kongers are prepared to do anything for delicious Spanish tapas! Our meal cost around $500 per head excluding tips, which was not cheap, but I personally thought it was worth it.
(1) The Spanish breakfast, chorizo and potato ($98) set the bar high for our meal. The potato was wondrously smooth and creamy, and the lovely, delicate egg and a few slices of tangy chorizo made for a heavenly and sensuous dish!
(2) Some friends have told me that they found the Manchego cheese and Iberico ham toastie ($78) a bit plain, but I personally loved it. True, it looked just like a normal ham and cheese sandwich, but the cheese was ultra creamy and the Iberico ham was impressively flavour-packed. Not to mention how incredibly cute the fried quail eggs looked!
(3) This Miso grilled mackerel, wasabi avocado, cucumber chutney ($148) was accomplished. The skin was crispy and well-browned and the mackerel was firm and juicy. I adored the sophisticated presentation of this dish, and the wasabi avocado paste gave it a nice kick.
(4) There was an air of elegance in the way this simple dish, Heirloom tomato, red onion, sherry vinegar ($58), looked. The tomatoes were fresh and juicy, and the sherry vinegar helped accentuate their natural sweetness.
(5) We did not order the Foie gras and sweetbread empanada, caper and burnt onion jam ($148) at first, but decided to go for it after we saw how enticing it looked! Mini burgers have become very popular in restaurants; while I cannot say that this sweetbread empanada was a notch above the other ones I have had, I can definitely say that it tasted delicious. The sweetbread was fluffy, and the foie gras in the burger was rich and decadent.
(6) For mains, we shared the Suckling pig, roasted apple with spices, piquillo pepper ($148), but were a little bit disappointed. While the skin was attractively thick and crunchy, we wished the meat was more tender and could be more easily torn apart. The suckling pig was a tad underseasoned, and was almost overwhelmed by the sweet, vibrant roasted pineapples and piquillo peppers.
(7) The two of us ordered the “PJB” peanut parfait, blueberry sorbet, salted peanut crunch ($68) for dessert. While I adored the perceptible taste of nuts in the peanut parfait, it wasn’t creamy or rich enough to form a contrast with the light blueberry sorbet. The different elements of the dessert somehow did not manage to come together.
(8) Besides drinking sangria, you could also order the Spanish beer, Estrella Damm ($55), which is known for its creamy hops and its refreshing, fruity taste.
Some of my friends found 22 Ships overrated, and thought that the quality of the meal did not justify the waiting time or the hype. Indeed, some of the dishes could be improved, but I was truly impressed by the creative and inspiring menu, which gave a refreshing spin on traditional Spanish tapas. What impressed me the most was the tapas' presentation – at 22 Ships I saw some of the prettiest dishes I have seen all year, and the restaurant's level of finesse was on a par with many fine dining or Michelin starred restaurants.
Having read about 22 Ships in a magazine a few months ago and found out that it was opened by Jason Atherton who's worked for Gordon Ramsay and completed a stage at El Bulli, I was really anticipating my turn to try this restaurant. As I heard there were no reservations, we headed to the restaurant at around 5:45 p.m. on a Saturday, and joined the back of the already-formed queue. Turns out they don't let anyone in before the restaurant opens at 6 p.m. so we still managed to join the first bat

Turns out they don't let anyone in before the restaurant opens at 6 p.m. so we still managed to join the first batch of diners for that evening!
We sat down and ordered 3 sangrias. The sangria looked much darker and thicker than normal sangrias as it seemed that the fruit had been blended in. My impression of the sangria was that it was just so-so, and I would've preferred it being more fruity. You could tell that they tried to make it more special with the foam and these dried berry-like things.
Then we ordered the food (I don't remember the exact names): roasted baby gem lettuce with anchovies, calamari, vietnamese dressing oysters, DIY tuna tartar, pork belly, pork and foie gras burgers, truffled egg, and finished it off with the signature PBJ.
None of the dishes really stood out to me. If I really had to choose a favourite, it would be either the DIY tuna tartar (which was just chopped up tuna with some of the standard ingredients you would mix into a tartar i.e. soy sauce, chives, shallots, olive oil, sesame seeds), but came with a nice piece of toast, or the calamari (just because I like calamari). If I had to wait 2 hours in line for this meal, I would've been sorely disappointed.
Maybe I didn't try some of the other "signature" dishes, like Spanish Breakfast or the bone marrow, but what I did try was just good (perhaps even average for some of the dishes), but definitely nothing outstanding, and not what I had anticipated!
The other items that I would just mention are the truffled egg, which had a REALLY intense truffle aroma, and the pork belly, which was really soft inside and crispy on the outside (as you would expect a Spanish pork belly to be). The pork and foie gras burger was a bit of a disappointment because the foie gras had actually been combined with the pork patty so the foie gras was not very prominent and the pulled pork at the bottom kind of masked the taste of most of the burger. The PBJ was fine - just a berry ice cream with some peanut parfait kind of thing, nothing amazing.
Service was good - the waitress was helpful and made sure we had everything we wanted and was helpful on recommending dishes.
All in all, it was an okay dining experience and the food was average to good, but not outsanding. Perhaps if it weren't for all the hype surrounding it, I would've been less disappointed!

This dish is light and very refreshing. The hamachi is fresh and the gazpacho sauce is a perfect dipping sauce. I love the small bits of cucumber, tomatoes and some sort of crispy bits on top.
One of the best paella I've ever had. Something about the sauce that the Paella is cooked it makes it so flavorful yet not too overpowering. I can eat the whole bowl by myself.
This is my friend's favorite dish out of all. The patty is to die for! Super tender meat and you get foie gras in every bite of it. The gucamole on the side is also a good addition to the burger.
All the desserts on the menu sounded very good, but we both love chocolate so decided on this one. I enjoyed everything this dish has to offer, but the chocolate gnache definitely stood out. It's so smooth and rich in chocolate flavor but yet not too sweet for you to keep wanting more!
Overall, the food was outstanding. I just wish seating was a little bit more comfortable. As for the price, I would say its on the higher price point for the food you get and for the restaurant environment.

22 Ships is a new rather small eatery *seating only 35*. But it does A LOT with that. Having a NO RESERVATION policy- loads of foodies line up out the door waiting to dine at this simple, laidback, yet buzzy, hip, open layout tapas bar. It literally is considered a tapas bar. There’s an huge open kitchen, bar like counter top where revelers can marvel at the food being made right in front of you! Spanish al fresco dining at the best!! OKAY.. Let’s begin. I’ve kept you waiting long enough.
EGGS! Spanish Breakfast, Chorizo & Potato HKD98. Okay…It’s a simple soft boiled egg that’s rich and creamy (that yolk…is perfect, runny, and hot) with a hint of smoky spice from the chunks of chorizo. It’s a great, comfort food starter. Luckily my other foodies know how much I liked eggs…and let me scrape every last morsel
Seafood- Scallop ceviche, yuzu dressing, soy, cucumber & apple HKD 108- Fresh, refreshing, practically melt-in your mouth scallops. It had a strong Asian tang from the yuzu dressing and soy- while being slightly crunchy and fruity from the apple and cucumber…. Another win.
Marinated Hamachi, gazpacho dressing & garnish HKD118.- The hamachi was also smooth, nice and refreshing- with a strong tomato flavour, but no match against its other seafood counterpart- scallops wins hand down.
However, the REAL stars of the evening is no doubt- the meat dishes….so, without further ado- I present to you…
Baked Smoked Bone Marrow, onion jam, & sourdough, gentleman’s relish butter HKD68.- I have no words to describe how much I enjoyed this. The baked bone marrow had minced meat grounded in-giving it a more juicy substance to every bite. The onion jam was the perfect flavor enhancer. Adding a nice caramelized sweetness to the delectable marrow and crisp bread. TWO THUMBS way UP!
Char Grilled Iberico pork & foie gras burgers, avacodo & pickled cucumber HKD148- Okay..I’m sorry. I lied. It DOES get better. Who can resist the pull of the fragrant mini burger? It was life changing….or I was really hungry (That’s not possible…I’ve already had a LOT of food beforehand??) Two slightly buttered, crispy buns stuffed w/ juicy pork, foie gras and a giant pickle. If you do one thing. Just promise me, you’ll try this. Heaven inside a bun (excuse me- 2 buns).
Suckling Pig, Roasted apple w/ spices, piquillo, pepper HKD 148.- The suckling pig was also rather good…just those mini burgers already stole my heart (favoritism going on over here). The meat was juicy, tender, and fell off the bone *I kid you not* and the crispy skin was more than perfectly cooked. It was a large portion though- bigger than all the rest!
The lamb cutlet was rather succulent, but had the heavy, thickness game-y taste to it, that was too strong for me….and also my least favorite of the bunch (Still, I quite enjoyed it!)
Olive Oil Brioche, Chocolate Ganache, Sea Salt Pistachio HKD 78. -This was ANOTHER winner. Delicious milk chocolate ganache, crunchy toasts chunks, and chocolate crumble mixed right in. It was divine, creamy and just plain ol’ delicious. Sometime, I wish I had 2 (or 3) stomachs.
