As a lone diner, I was able to secure a table as soon as I walked in. Groups should expect a wait and aim to arrive earlier than your planned dinin time, as the restaurant does not take bookings and will not seat incomplete groups.

The atmosphere is that of a slick, well-oiled machine. Decor is funky and modern, with industrial touches:exposed brick and piping, metallic light fittings and black and white photography. Staff are focused and efficient, with a few chefs cracking jokes at the door when I visit.

The waitress recommends I try a 22 Ships signature dish of jamón and manchego toasted sandwich with poached quail eggs; this is breakfast at its most cholesterol laden and I loved it. Simple and perfectly executed (though it is rich, if you don't like your food heavy).

The stand-out dish however comes from the vegetables section of the menu: arresting shades of purple-red and white give the beetroot dish great visual impact and the taste does not disappoint. Tart beetroot with mild, velvety goats cheese, the sweetness of the pear puree and the textural wonder that is aerated olive oil.

For dessert, I choose the PBJ (peanut butter and jelly sandwich) which manifests as a hollowed out length of brioche filled with quince and peanut butter ice cream. Fruity, nutty, buttery - a cute, tasty idea, though I think the brioche could have been a little fresher.

My only complaint about 22 Ships is that I have only one stomach and after all of this food I was full. I would have loved to try all the other things I saw coming out of the kitchen.

suckling pig: 餐單上冇架,都係問待應先知仲有得食呀!係一個酸酸甜甜既燒豬。皮脆肉嫩,我好中意尼個汁,應該係用酸梅煮出黎既,酸酸甜甜可以有效減低豬油既膩既感覺,因尼舊豬都甚為肥美,但係係唔會話有成舊肥膏咬到出黎,係已經燒到化化地,令到肉好juicy好甘香,好味^_^
thai green apple sorbet:為甜品,個sorbet真係好味架,好清,食完咁多野同埋個豬,食尼個結尾真係幾好。仲有啲crunchy既野跟埋啲cream狀既部份一齊食,為尼個甜品增添不少色彩
不過真係最好食晏黎啦!起碼唔駛排咁耐先啦!=p 好值得一試既「船」!有機會一定會再去!

I had heard that the wait at 22 ships can be quite long so we went quite early (around 6.30) and had a long leisurely dinner. We ordered a lot of dishes and each one was excellent.

Starters:
Marinated olives - classic/delicious
Gambas with onion and cilantro - flavourful and perfectly cooked fat prawns with a punchy green sauce (cilantro based)
padron peppers with garlic salt - I wanted to try these spanish peppers. they were great but they are not different from the local chile peppers you get in the wet markets (hehe, easy to recreate at home!)

Mains:
Rack of lamb with eggplant puree - the puree was unbelievable - sweet and smokey. The lamb itself was not that great. Two small pieces and not the tastiest meat but at least it was cooked exactly the way we wanted.

And finally, the star of the show - the special for the week - suckling pig. This was the best suckling pig of my life! crispy crackling, soft meat, apple/pear based sauce at the bottom, piquillo peppers and pink peppercorns on top. The very different ingredients married beautifully and tasted like heaven. The portion size was large but it was not difficult at all to finish this masterpiece (which is served in a deservingly gorgeous copper vessel).

Dessert: We shared the "texturas de chocolate", which as the name suggests is chocolate in different forms from merengue to icecream to little flakey sweet bits in dark, milk and white chocolate. It was alright. I personally prefer more decadent desserts but this was still a very nice ending to a rich meal.

Service: A+. They don't charge service charge here but who can resist generously tipping these nice waiters who check on you, refresh your tapas plates and your water glass regularly without you ever having to ask and giving good recommendations"?

同朋友行過見到難得吾洗等,就決定試試。入到去就叫左1個mini burger, pepper, squid 同 roasted lettuce.首先上ga 係pepper, 好少可以食到,幾特別同一d都吾油之後上左個squid , 呢樣我覺得麻麻地因為太炸同有d多粉個Roasted lettuce 原來係咸魚味!非常之有特色。不過對一d人可能吾太鐘意咸魚。最後就係過得色burger. 一淡無左。呢餐午餐2人食左$371,係同區灣仔中上價。不過我覺得低食。十分推薦去試下。當中有d美中不足係地方太細,人太多,環境有d窄。

   之前經過很多前, 每次都見到滿座, 很有氣氛. 是日禮拜天, 打了電話到好幾間西班牙餐廳, 午餐都沒有開. 突然想起22 Ships, 有開但不設訂位. 於是與朋友12:00多便到達, 被安排到Bar 枱坐. 店舖非常細, 基本上差不多全部都是Bar seating 或面壁座位‧Menu 選擇不少, 清晰的分類: Meat, seafood, eggs, vegetables 還有 special 寫在黑板上. 可惜裡面沒有Tapas!我們先點了Iberico pork and foie gras burger, 兩個mini burger 配avocado 醬和青瓜. pork 中混了foie gras 淡淡的不錯, 加上avocado醬感覺健康一點. 八爪魚是西班牙名菜, 不能不吃. 我們先點了Iberico pork and foie gras burger, 兩個mini burger 配avocado 醬和青瓜. pork 中混了foie gras 淡淡的不錯, 加上avocado醬感覺健康一點. 八爪魚是西班牙名菜, 不能不吃. Octopus carpaccio, 把八爪魚薄切, 加上mango sauce伴碟, 賣相不錯, 只是價錢$158, 以分量而言和Bar style 級數, 稍為貴了吧. 味道還算ok, 夠新鮮.
最後是主角, suckling pig!!! 我的至愛! 價錢$179, 不用預早訂即叫即做, 不錯! 等15分鐘也是值得的. 分量幾大, 用鐵盤上, 面皮非常脆, 難得刀切下去皮和肉沒有很多分開. 肉身非常入味和juicy, 太美味了!
食物質素都很合格, 廚師在bar 裡客人面前即叫即做, 很有氣氛.
美中不足是西班牙特色飲品sangria 做得太差, 顏色帶紫色, 酒和甜味都不夠, 怪怪的.
整體價錢都不便宜, 如果可以提供餐前麵包, 會比較合理.

炸香的外層香口惹味,吞拿魚厚薄適中,新鮮嫩滑
牛油果醬汁味淡而細滑,不會掩蓋了魚的鮮味,頗新奇的一個配搭。打成泡泡的大豆沒甚味道,更像點綴。很快便消滅掉了

喜不喜歡Spanish breakfast, chorizo and potato這道菜真的見人見智
我個人很喜歡它幼滑的質感和香腸薯仔的搭配
。但同時,我也看見有幾道食評把它評得一文不值
。就像有些人喝慣了熱湯,初嘗西班牙凍湯Gazpacho會反感
但在抱怨難吃難喝的時候,是不是更應該想想是否只是自己口味不慣而不是廚房做得不好?
同類的食物未吃過,又如何能評價好壞呢?

這是我其中一道超愛的菜

上次已經想試試,奈何當時已經飽了。鵝肝與黑毛豬的組合看似很常見,但炭燒得不好的話很容易焦了苦了,最重要的肉汁流失就不合格了。22 Ships倒處理得非要好
漢堡扒有濃濃的肉汁卻不油膩。開心果醬絕對是驚喜之作
,沾上漢堡帶來另一種和諧又特別的口感,差不多每檯都會點這很有誠意的迷你漢堡扒

是比較肥膩的西班牙式燒乳豬

我個人很喜歡喜萬年又薄又脆的燒乳豬
,但比較下來中式版本通常都不太著重肉的部份,量少,肉質又較乾。22 Ships的版本與中式無異,但供應的則是在鐵盒中的一支豬手
。切開後會發現皮脆而肉滑,肉汁和油滿溢
調味做很很足,每一口都可以嘗到香噴噴的肉味
。不過這裡炮製的乳豬沒有做到皮肉分別明的效果,所以女生可能都會有點介意過份油膩


飲品方面,雖然紅色的sangria 比較傳統,但我還是很喜歡帶有薑味,更清新,酒精含量較少的白色Sangria


總結來說,22 Ships是我本年來會推薦朋友和會一來再來的其中一間餐廳

No reservations means you have to get here pretty early if you want to get seated during the first round (dinner service starts at 6PM), or get stuck waiting for patrons to finish eating. The restaurant is small with a few tables inside, a bar area, and a row of tables that are both inside and outside (part of the table is on the outside). The ambiance is busy and chatty, so it's not really a great place to talk as you're sitting prett

You're here for the food though, and it's one of the best in town without the overpriced sticker price. 

Of course I had to order a sangria at a tapas restaurant. My red sangria came topped with foam and it was fruity with just the right taste of alcohol. Other dishes we tried:

Spanish breakfast with chorizo and potato - the chorizo was spicy and blended well with the potato foam which carried a hint of sweetness.

Baked bone marrow - who knew bone marrow could taste so good! The bone marrow was chewy and tasty with crumbs on top adding to the texture. You can eat it alone or with the bread and relish butter to balance with the richness of the bone marrow.

All of the dishes we tried were wonderful! Sadly we had no room for dessert. This is definitely one of my go to places for tapas.

Other two need to stand and wait till other customers finished their food and leave. First time writing review since too lazy in the past, but the experience is too horrific at this -5 stars restaurant which I must share with others.

Went with another 7 ppl.  Wait for ages before 6 are seated on the long bench at the entrance. Other two need to stand and wait till other customers finished their food and leave. Fine, we understand its a famous restaurant and it's normal to be crowded.  Since we have waited a long time already, we asked to order food.  The waiter warned those two standing people not to eat when the food arrive since they can only serve people sitting down.  He said he will arrange seating soonest.  Another 30 mins have past and finally there are 2 vacant seats at the open kitchen (just behind the 6 friends at the bench).  So me and my standing friend walked over and sit at that vacant seats.  A waitress came over and asked us not to sit there since she has already called another pair of waiting customers to come back to take these seats.  She told us need to wait for those seats at the long bench.

30 mins past and we keep on standing, no food, and watching other customers in the restaurants leaving and those seats filled by other new comings. Another 15 mins past and finally the couple at the other end of the bench pay the bill and leave.  When we plan to sit down, the same waitress stops us and tells us these two seats are not for us and she has already called someone to take these.  We have to wait specifically for seats next to our 6 friends.  In the end we have been standing there for more than 1.5 hours before we can sit down for the meal.  This is ridiculous and I am sure no other restaurant will do such things to its customers.

Crowded and uncomfortable seating with shoulders touching the person sitting next to you?  This I don't mind since maybe this is what a tapas bar should be.  Extremely small portion and highly overpriced plates with ordinary taste?  I can bare that too since this is common at many so-called Michelin star chef restaurants.  But deformalizing fine-dining? Stop BS-ing Mr Atherton, the only thing you brought from fine-dining to this place is high price and nothing else.  I have been to many much better tapas bars in Hong Kong at much lower price yet much better service.  Will never come back to this garage like place for meal, ever.

十分簡單,只有一張menu、一本drink menu和畫在黑板上的daily special
款式不算特別多,但當中已有肉類、蛋類、蔬菜類和甜點,基本上想吃的都有,而且以這樣格局,主要是吃吃Tapas和飲飲酒已很足夠。

一行二人,看著menu,不知道吃甚麼好,所以每個種類點一款,先來的是魚。Tuna是我近日頗喜愛的菜式,營養度比較高;這Tuna的外貌很美,味道亦同樣的好,外層被密密麻麻的芝麻包圍著,令整體的香氣增加了不少;而吞拿魚的肉質軟腍沒太多渣,非常鮮,而牛油果味與魚味亦很配;面上的泡泡亦有濃郁的魚味;吃完後,鮮味濃郁的魚香在口中久久不散。

Spanish breakfast, chorizo and potato ($98)
點這個,是因為看到人人都說這個好吃,我心想既然人人都說好,應該都不會太差吧。整個構造其實就是最頂的chorizo和薯仔,白綿綿的便是薯蓉,中間有一隻流心蛋,最底層的是蕃茄醬。

刺穿蛋白,蛋黃爆出,蛋黃味道濃郁;而chorizo已經烘得沒有油份,十分脆身,非常香口,鹹度不會太高,配上那綿綿的薯蓉剛剛好,而薯蓉真的很幼滑,幼著入口即溶,充滿牛油香;就這樣吃會比較膩,所以吃時要拌勻,連底層的蕃茄醬一同進食便能減其膩。這道菜富層次感,每一個元素都是互補不足。
雖然這是別出心裁的配搭,但個人會覺得似乎有點畫蛇添足,我會比較喜歡沒有蕃茄醬在底的配搭。

Pork belly ($158)
來之前,每個食評都看到足,希望可以點suckling pig,雖然大家的說法都不同,但suckling pig是西班牙的特色,即使與心中喜愛的那種不同也沒有所謂,只想一嚐這裡的出品。但可惜,看來看去,都看不到這豬,細問之下,才知道不是每天都有的。然後看到有pork belly,那就要pork belly吧,這也算其中一款西班牙必吃菜式吧。
雖然份量不算大,但還是比想像中大,不過賣相與想像中有點出入,我期望看上去是有點閃爍的,但這看上去有點乾身。這是第一次吃到如此多層的豬,感覺是不錯的,我總是比較貪心吧。但似乎份量多未能令我滿足,外層過份的乾身,燒得太過火,所以外層還有點苦味,而脂肪亦不夠多;肉質嚡得有點過火,本身我的牙齒不好,太有嚼勁,吃完牙肉都有點痛;而豬味亦不夠濃郁;這肥豬肉還有豬軟骨,那軟骨亦很硬。或者太厚身,所以控制得不夠全面,有三分一左右的肉質和脂肪配合得是不錯的,而另外的三分二實在有點差勁。
說真的,我對這肥豬真的有點失望,本打算吃後再看看有甚麼好吃,但吃完我已經無力再咬了。
都說了,期望越大,失望便越大,每次都是這樣的。三款食物之中,我最愛便是那吞拿魚,雖然味道是不錯,但又未至於一試難忘,總括來說,食物沒想像的美味,只可以說也不差。價錢方面,以西班牙菜來說也算正常吧,基本上在港的西班牙菜也不會特別抵食吧。服務方面,都是這個樣子,沒甚麼特別。環境便是酒吧的格局,晚上的氣氛應該會是不錯的。

the worst pork belly i have ever had.
the chinese veggie on top REALLY confused me.
the skin is not crispy, i put the skin in my mouth and i already regret it. i can't crew it at all and i have to spit it out.
the meat is soft though.
some muddy stuff also under the pork belly was placed under the pork belly.
i dont know what that muddy stuff was.
 
we didnt wanna order any more things. we asked for the bill and left.
we will never return to this restaurant

題外話/補充資料: p.s. we do see many people order foie gras mini burger, guess it's the safest choice.

單看好似沒什麼特別, 其實細味下內有複雜及有層次的味道, 蘇格蘭三文魚用olive oil及檸檬汁醃過, 很新鮮的三文魚有魚油豐厚感覺, 上面有些茴香及洋蔥片, 紅色乾胡椒粒, 帶出香味及辛辣味, 提升層次, 最後有黑色的魚子, 成件事變得更完美

本身個名不太記得, 作為個沙律, 它是很稱職的, 下面是一大條爽脆生菜塾底,加上其他脆脆的配料, 如洋蔥, 煙肉及脆麵包, 配有沙律醬汁, 總之口感就是脆, 過癮!

整體來說, 食物質素不差, 令人食得很開心及期待, 但擠湧的環境下, 實在不能舒服地坐下去....

The place is small as described but filled with energy and life. It's not a romantic dinner location but is ideal if you are more of an interactive diner. The staff are ever so friendly and knowledgeable of what they're serving. I would even go so far as to say- passionate.

Of the detailed, but not too vast a tapas menu, our incredibly helpful waiter helped us highlight the most popular and recommended. We ordered about 90% of them. Me being a pescetarian, often I need to sacrifice my dietary choices to try something good, however, they had more than enough fish and seafood to satiate my appetite.

Here are a few dishes we tried

Salmon "ceviche", watermelon and wasabi- a refreshing blend of savoury and sweet! The watermelon was slightly pickled and went incredibly well with the salmon

Spanish breakfast, chorizo and potato
truffled egg and celeriac to die for! we had to cut it in half to show all its layers of flavour and texture

Iberico pork and foie gras burger, avocado and kimchi this has the most "thumbs up" according to my recollection, however, I felt it was a little over rated. delicious all the same, but as far as sliders go, it was good. Not great

Salt Cod Brandade Ortiz anchovy and herb paste- absolutely divine. Ever so smooth and you would never guess it was made out of fish! a definite must try with the crunchy bread

Brittany Oyster with cucumber and drunken salmon eggs- I am a true oyster lover and usually do not like them with garnishing of any kind. The cucumber added a nice bit of texture and the eggs some taste, but I would still prefer my oysters clean with perhaps a dash of lemon

The desserts were outstanding. The highlight for me (as in most cases.) I do recommend trying the goat cheese sorbet. Slightly tangy and a refreshing yet flavoursome finish to a relatively heavy meal.

But that still beats the pit of straight elbows standing room only at popular tapas places in Spain on Thursday through Saturday nights. They don't take reservations, but they will take your number at the door and call you. On a Sunday night, the wait was around 20 minutes for a table for two. But that still beats the pit of straight elbows standing room only at popular tapas places in Spain on Thursday through Saturday nights. But you'd hardly eat these tapas with your hands either.

You get a sense that 22 Ships is clearly overwhelmed and rushing orders out, but there are technical flaws that go beyond execution. Even on a calmer night, I suspect that dishes will be very hit/miss here. The success here relies on a crowd of primarily English-speaking tourists looking for something only mildly exotic to eat.

Gallery Text:

1. Hamachi with Gazpacho: Good quality hamachi that's presently so tamely you'd think this were a shy crowd. The gazpacho is mostly tomato puree with very little in the way of peppers or onions. Given the mildness of the fish, you'd expect more punch in the sauce. In fact, the only bold move on this plate is a tiny piece of basil that helps, but not enough.

2. Pressed Pork Belly: Crispy and fatty but a bit dried out, I suspect this was shallow fried in a cast iron skillet with a cast iron weight on top to press it. The quince aioli helps fill the moisture void and adds a nice exotic sweetness, but it doesn't make up for what should have been a wonderful vacuum braised then seared cube. The Chinese greens probably reference some dish that combines these greens and pork, but it's a bit lost on the plate.

3. Grilled Wagyu Sirloin: This is about Grade 6/12 marbling, so it has fine flavor, but it's not meltingly tender. It is perfectly seared rare to medium rare and well-seasoned. But the real star of this dish is the black pudding which is richly porky with no real pork grain or intrusive fat; it's just grains of rice that have been deftly bound by blood and fat and pan seared. There's also a piperade sauce that adds some sweet pepper flavor to round out any bitter edges in the other two ingredients.
