Every time I come, there is always at least a table of Westerners enjoying the lovely food and slightly crowded but hearty bustling scene. The 3 of us ordered:- half a szechuan crispy duck: dry, orangy tough skin, sauce was ?a bit off to me, but maybe that's how it's supposed to be. Not recommended.- dan dan mian: not spicy, fragrant peanut taste, noodles well cooked but not overdone.- vegetables in clear broth (Jun Bak): good portion, flavourful, clear broth that complemented well with the other
The 3 of us ordered:
- half a szechuan crispy duck: dry, orangy tough skin, sauce was ?a bit off to me, but maybe that's how it's supposed to be. Not recommended.
- dan dan mian: not spicy, fragrant peanut taste, noodles well cooked but not overdone.
- vegetables in clear broth (Jun Bak): good portion, flavourful, clear broth that complemented well with the other dishes that were stronger in taste.
- stir-fried chilli eggplants: a little too oily for my liking, but still tasted great.
- drunken chicken: tender chicken even when we asked for the chicken breast, the wine seeped into the meat but was not overwhelming.
- xiao lung bao: not much juice inside the dumplings, the top was a little dried, probably been steamed for a bit too long (hope it's not re-steamed).
- sesame tang yuan: huge (and slightly overcooked), we each had a go at what it looked like.... use your imagination.
overall not bad for a good chow down in the friendly neighbourhood, might have to share a table but that only provides more opportunity to see what other people are ordering and to follow suit.... I was drooling over all the dishes coming out of the kitchen, all piled high and mighty on the plastic dishes.
Friendly waiters, might need a bit of prompting with getting rice, refilling tea etc, but they willingly comply.
