After watching a movie in iSquare, boyfriend and I were wondering what to have for dinner. As we didn't want to eat at any of the boring places in iSquare, we started to look through Openrice to see what was nearby. Shine popped up and we saw it was located in the building just around the corner.Though it was a weekday, it was almost full but they were able to squeeze us in even though we made no reservations. Layout though not very big, was not cramped as well. The place was a bit darkly decor
Though it was a weekday, it was almost full but they were able to squeeze us in even though we made no reservations. Layout though not very big, was not cramped as well. The place was a bit darkly decorated but there were a number of lights so it wasn't so dark you couldn't read the menu.
Menu is in English and Chinese. The restaurant serves basic Western dishes like pasta, burgers and steak. Menu isn't huge and was actually just four pieces of paper. Which is fine as it seems to be more focused than just feeding you any old thing.
They also have a varied drinks list.
The staff gave us their time limited special. It was sea urchin squid pasta. I noticed nearly every table was ordering this but I wasn't too interested as I'm not big fan of squid pasta.
Deep Fried Calamari ($68). We started with an appetizer of calamari as boyfriend wanted something fried. The coating could have been a bit more crispier but the squid was cooked perfectly. Tender and not rubbery. Boyfriend gobbled these up like no tomorrow.
Casareccia Marinara with Crab Meat ($148). Casareccia is a cool looking pasta. It's like two pieces of twisted straws and goes great with meaty sauce. This place serves it with marinara sauce that was a bit on the sweet side. There was a lot of crab meat found throughout but it didn't really enhance the sauce much. The pasta was a bit undercooked. I think it could have done with perhaps a minute more.
Grilled O.P. Ribs with Barbeque Sauce ($428). I honestly don't know how big this was prior to ordering. It said 35 oz but hey ... I only know metric system. It was BIG. We asked for medium rare and it was a bit on the rare side. This was completely fine with us as we do like our beef a bit rare. But if you are fearful of a little blood, ask for more well one an not medium. The beef was tender and juicy. The marinade was sweet and I detected the taste of hoisin sauce which I like to add when I make my own barbeque sauce. The only thing that was missing was small plate of the barbeque sauce for dipping.
Definitely hearty portions good enough to share. Food was good with a slight Asian taste to it. The diners weren't too noisy so I can see this as a good place to return some day with a group of friends. It's no wonder there were so many people on a weekday night.
