每年一次的Le French May,對很多人士來說是一個重要的節目,對藝術及電影興趣不大,反而對法國的美食情有獨鍾,芝士、紅酒、甜點等等,全部也非常喜歡。在香港當然不只在五月才可體驗法國的美食,不過在這個Le French GourMay的活動中,參與的餐廳也會特別設計一些迎合這個主題的菜式。日前,我們獲邀來到文華酒店中的Café Causette品嚐以法國里昂為主題的菜式。日間時常也會來這裡,反而晚上就是第一次,原來在閒日的晚上也很熱鬧的。我選了一個小的海鮮拼盤Petit Plateau,雖說是小,份量絕不欺場,拼盤中有半隻龍蝦,生蠔6隻,青口8隻,大蝦及蜆各4隻。海鮮也算鮮甜而且新鮮,四人分享剛剛好,索價只是四百多元,值得吃!另一款打正里昂的名義的沙律Salade Lyonnaise,包括溏心鴨蛋,煙肉。味道是咸中帶點來自 frisée salad 的苦,還有鴨蛋的濃郁,和煙熏味的結合。還有豬肉醬配上,醃菜、葡萄酸辣醬及蘿蔔。口感粗糙的豬肉醬,充滿原始野味的味道, 伴以醃菜及配料同吃,味道層次豐富。在法國有許多專門吃青口的餐廳,非常受港人歡迎,我們點了經典的青口伴白酒忌廉汁,青口

另一款打正里昂的名義的沙律Salade Lyonnaise,包括溏心鴨蛋,煙肉。味道是咸中帶點來自 frisée salad 的苦,還有鴨蛋的濃郁,和煙熏味的結合。

在法國有許多專門吃青口的餐廳,非常受港人歡迎,我們點了經典的青口伴白酒忌廉汁,青口不算大,但肉質飽滿味道鮮甜,加上濃郁的蒜蓉香草汁,用麵包醮來吃個一滴汁也不剩,叫人非常滿足。

非常鐘愛雞肉的我,更加愛吃紅酒雞,每逢看到這道菜,總會忍不住去點。雞肉嫩滑,配上濃厚的紅酒汁,帶洋蔥的甜及來自煙肉的燻味,終於明白為什麼法國菜總要配上麵包,因為每滴醬汁也是精華所在,絕不可錯過。

另一主菜是羊腿,伴紅椒茄子。羊腿肉質飽滿,入口味道濃烈而且鬆化,配以羊肉汁,更加原汁原味。

吃了幾個肉類主菜,來個口味清淡一點的魚肉吧,用紙包著的焗爐魚,肉汁得以保存,而魚肉也特別嫩滑,有蒸煮的效果。這個菜不需要太多調味,只吃魚本身的鮮味已經非常足夠了。
這個菜式就是火腿芝士三文治,配上煎得很工整的太陽蛋,麵包鬆軟且充滿牛油香味,香脆可口。在晚上吃這個菜式,感覺好像在吃早餐,但是只要味道好,其實也沒有什麼時段的分別。

最後來個甜品Floating Islands,主要由蛋白球及雲呢拿蛋黃汁組成,味道清新而不會太甜,在一頓豐富的晚飯後,我比較喜歡這類輕怡一點的甜品

大家不要以為在酒店吃晚飯一定非常昂貴,事實上我們所點的菜式除了海鮮拼盤以外,大都只是2百多元,在中環中心地帶,加上酒店的環境及服務,絕對是吃得過,難怪在平日的晚上,就算已經是晚上11時,仍坐無虛席。

This was such a lovely light dish to begin with especially the Jerusalem artichokes which were tender with a delicious woody taste.
There was also fried crispy artichoke slices to give it some depth and the juicy plump scallops were embodied nicely in the light sauce.

A meaty pork pate with fruity pieces of prune and pistachio nuts in it.
It was complimented nicely with the sweet grape chutney, after finishing the pork pate I found the tangy cornichons appetizing making me ready for the next dish.

This is probably not everyones cup of tea but had to try it.
It is made with pork intestines which are quite chewy and there was lots of delicious saukeraut to balance the pungent intestines.

Skate wing, another rare item in Hong Kong.

I am surprised that the last review Cafe Causette review was written by me - which makes me look like a regular there - not true.Anyways - I went there on a Fri evening after work with my colleagues. Normally I don't order pate - as I am not a big fan of organs, Since Lyon cuisine is usually very heavy on meat and it's just one of the classic items, I ordered it for my friends. No comment from my side since I didnt eat it but my friends said they were good and tasty.

This is one of the highlights of tonight. It's really interesting as all and various artichoke. One of the is Jeruselam artichokeand used as purée, and the crispy slices on the top. I like how pickled artichoke are well balanced with the fresh scallops. The scallops are slightly pan fried, leaving it light, fresh and smooth. The artichokes give the dish a stronger kick.

The skate wing is soooooo flavorful and I love the interesting texture, which is like soft shark bones. The top was slightly caramelised. The funnel underneat is surprisingly fresh and delightful as I imaged it to be quite heavy. 

I might come back again before the menu is gone!

Gigot dˊ Agneau ($288): 其實我也真是羊肉的粉絲,家裏不常吃羊,在家外吃飯都偏好點羊的,這次也有點羊腿的,羊腿肉是嫩得很,而且齒甲間有陣陣羊肉香,是好吃的,稍嫌假如羊肉的外圍稍稍熟度減低會更理想。

Loup de mer en Papillote ($288): 這是以鱸魚作主題的主菜,上菜時,魚是包裹着的,是一個有趣的型態,把紙撕開後便知內有乾坤,是鱸魚來的,而且包上紙後的保温確是處理得很好。肉質是細緻而挺嫰身的,感覺是健怡之選。

Croque Madame($188): 這個法式烤火腿芝士三文治, 很有法國高級cafe的那種風情,烤得金黃均勻的三文治,內面是夾得半融狀的芝士跟火腿,也是一種簡單的美味。

最後便是甜品的環節了,特別是法式甜品,總是令人期待的。為Le French Gourmay而設的甜品,據知每款是$98。
Creme Brulee: 既有蛋香,也有奶香,表面經烤過的焦糖是有一分濃郁的甜香,是不失望的選擇。

Tarte Fine de Pomme: 據知這個是店方的名物-- 是蘋果撻配搭雲呢拿雪糕,輕吃一口,是與別不同的,吃出了蘋果的清香和爽口感。個人認為最討好的是蘋果撻沒有過重的玉桂味道,令整體成為有恰當平衡的味道,還有帶點酥脆感的撻皮,實在很值得一試。

Ill Flottante: 論賣相,這個是最美的,表面鋪着是長條形的脆糖,很有藝術美,碟中是圓圓的蛋白脆餅,感覺吃這個邪惡感是最低的吧!

I went there with a friend for dinner. He wanted to try their hainan chicken rice. Turned out they were having a special French may promo so we had the new dishes instead. We had the chicken with red wine sauce. it was so tender and juicy. flavorful too! I ordered the sea bass which was wrapped in a baking paper (nicely wrapped it looked like a dumpling!) when I opened the bag it smelt so good. My table was filled with smoky herbal fragrant. Highlight was the dessert - Apple tart which is surprising good. As a dude I usually don't even like dessert but this one was a nice balance between fresh apple's natural sweetness and the thin chocolate crust. 
May go back again if I get a chance.

茶類也沒有甚麼特別的,傳統大路的茶都在menu上看到,本身不太喜愛紅茶黑茶,而這裡的白茶綠茶類不多,就選了草莓綠茶試試看,還不錯呢!用上茶葉代替果茶包,的確是五星級酒店的誠意,至少不會在市面上找到相同味道的果茶,淡淡的草莓味,沒有平時的重果味,大愛!

不過...當店員再放下這盒鬆餅,用上文華鐵盒,放在白餐布上的鬆餅熱烘烘,完全是剛從焗爐拿出來的一樣,頓時讓我們把三層架放在一旁,立即把鬆餅成為我們第一個目標,加上那個文華招牌玫瑰花果醬,我們還想著花果醬及clotted cream應該對我們是供不應求,哈哈!以前的afternoon tea多是普通果醬,總是把它放在一旁,不過這個玫瑰花果醬卻令我第一次把clotted cream忽略了,的確超讚!加上鬆餅又熱又脆,令人食指大動之餘亦很滿足,這是我現時為止最好的鬆餅吧!^^

頂層的咸點,芝士松露法式三文治,一放入口便感到陣陣松露香,Very Nice~
煙肉洋葱芝士撻,普通的煙肉芝士,嗯...芝士味道還算香濃
迷你十字包,這個值得一提的是,在我們正在用餐的同時,店員在每枱都放下食物,我們疑惑著是否添加物,店員解釋這件十字包來不及出爐,所以才及後添上,原來是新鮮出爐的麵包當然要立即品嚐,豐富的肉桂味喔!

再說同樣是咸點的底層,全是三文治,而每款三文治都配著不同種類的麵包,很貼心!我們很奇怪這個煙三文魚忌廉芝士三文治會有三件,味道還可以但過咸了,而配上的黑麥麵包是我不時不算感興趣的
火腿芥末三文治,芥末味不算太濃烈,還好,哈!跟它配搭的麥包也是我更不感興趣
辣根牛肉三文治,這個是三文治類最出色的一款,配上洋葱包,雖然自己不喜愛洋葱,但這款麵包沒有太多洋葱味,不錯呢!
雞蛋青瓜蛋黃醬三文治,用青瓜包著雞蛋蛋黃醬白麵包,這款是最普通的,不過白麵包是我喜愛的XD
吃罷兩大個鬆餅再進攻這堆三文治,戰鬥了個多小時那個三層架就好似未吃過似的,很!飽!

K.O.了大半三文治決定吃點甜的,中層的甜也不能忽略呢!中間的甜點每款只有一件,一過兩個人分享也可以的
Dry Cake提子橙皮蛋糕,本身不太鍾愛提子乾,感覺就不特別了
檸檬蛋糕,外表平庸,就跟普通牛油蛋糕沒兩樣,但出奇地好味,酸酸的!還記得我愛酸甜食物嗎?這就是我喜愛

甘筍紙杯蛋糕,上面有朵花的那件蛋糕,嗯...要說是橙色的忌廉是甘筍味,那麼蛋糕就是普通味道的蛋糕,不過...我吃不出有甘筍味呢!
千層朱古力咖啡榛子蛋糕,香濃朱古力加上咖啡,我聯想到mocha了,其實嘛,我只嚐到朱古力味,蓋過了咖啡了
黑加侖子慕絲蛋糕,不錯的黑加侖子蛋糕,市面上黑加侖子蛋糕不多,有機會嚐到了,滿足
文華芝士餅,招牌的芝士餅是出色的,不用懷疑吧!

我們花了很長時間才把整份tea set消滅,實在不能看小這份看似不多的下午茶,因為三文治們讓我們連晚餐都吃不下去了......

Sooooo…I am finally employed which means I feel much better about splurging on fancy restaurants Not that this has stopped me before…haha. Anyhow, me and my friends had dinner plans and since one of them’s a fancy lawyer who works in Central ;) I suggested eating there just in case she gets off work late. I did a quick search and came across Café Causette which is the café inside Mandarin Oriental. The menu was surprisingly not as pricey as I thought, so I decided to give it a try.
The restaurant has an awkward layout on the side of the building, but quite spacious. I was early again so I had some time to take a panorama of the restaurant. Ahem..talk about proper table manners..

-The bread was served warm which is nice, and it has a very nice crust
-Much to my disappointment there wasn’t a lot of cheese in the bread. I was hoping the melted cheese would ooze out from the middle
The bread itself is a sourdough
-The green spread is pesto and the red spread is an olive purée. Both were very fresh and tasted very refreshing

I was told that they are famous for their Hainanese Chicken Rice, but I didn’t feel like spending $268 on rice. Instead I ordered their Sticky Pork Belly, which ironically is more expensive than the rice at $288 #lollogic

Sticky Pork Belly – soy, maple syrup, celeriac purée, caramlized apple, pork crackling
-I must mention that this dish is served on a heated plate which many restaurants seem to neglect. I think it’s little things like these that makes a restaurant good
-The pork belly wasn’t as well-executed as I hoped. The meat was tough & dry and the fat was chewy. It was hard to cut through/chew and didn’t really ‘melt-in-my-mouth’.
-The glaze could also be more ‘sticky’ – it was more like a soy sauce rater than a soy/maple syrup combination.
-I really liked the purées though. I’ve never had celeriac purée before and it tasted like a less heavy mashed potation. The green purée was apples I think and tasted very sweet.
-I also like how they added the pork cracklings on top. It added some nice texture, and not as heavy-tasting as opposed to adding bacon bits
-I love the caramelized apples! When I saw them in slices I thought they would be like apple chips which I hate. But they’ve slightly caramelized it so that it leaves a sticky feeling in your mouth – yummy!

My friends ordered burgers which I believe were quite good as well. The total was $741 which isn’t that bad.

I’d definitely come back again for their famous high tea set – I just found out that it’s $468 for two people which isn’t that expensive.

We order the Traditional tea set for 2 . First come to tea . Always come to my favorite Earl Grey friend . Tea is above average . Dense Earl Grey sense , aromatic but not over sharp . Sweetness and mellowness goes harmoniously with each other . With a bit bitterness at the end to moved yr tastebud . Tea is served with a ginger biscuit cubes , they did match well . The tea pot is more like vacuum flask that can have better heat preservation . Caring .

Back to the set , the high tea stand wasn't in that pleasant presentation as I thought . I think this is due to the pastries placing that make the overall presentation a bit monotonous and colorless . Anyway not a big deal although it's not that colorful . 

Upper layer -( salty snacks )
Let's move to the upper layer first . Salty snacks come to smoke salmon sandwiches . Nothing special, taste alright , not to mention . The foie gras terrine quince brioche is arousing . Smash with papaya , create comprehensive layers with unique taste. The egg and cucumber salad chive is up to standard . Not adding too much mayonnaise ,  can bring out the nature freshness , Wrapped in cucumber pieces , good combination . For the last one , coronation chicken go with mango in curry paste , sounds wired , but surprising go well , the chicken is tender and saturated with intense flavors . 
Middle level - ( puff and salt pastries )
The middle level ! Comes to puff and 
croissant . Puff in Grougere content with york ham and mustard, just so tasty and cheesy with salty hint ! The corn fed chicken ,  vol au vent is too filling, can't really feel the tastes and texture , soso .The bacon and onion quiche is still in a hot condition , fruitful and delicious with contrasting texture. For the last one , ham and cheese brioche come up truffle . Dense truffle flavorings , very luscious that will stimulate you . 
Bottom layer - ( sweet pastries and dessert ) 
The bottom layer .Always my favourite sweet delights ! I think  Coffee Clair is the best. Rich and smooth content , the mellowness coffee cream can strike the balance , not too sweet , light delicacy . The double milk chocolate mousse cake and caramelized banana cake are not bad . This is perfect for the chocoholics , dark and decadent with a full bodied coco , savory ! The mandarin cheesecake is under average , doesn't tastes good . It's not in rich cheese foundation , more like cream or mousse cake and I don't appreciate cheesecake with no biscuit base . Maybe got bias .

Here's the signature won't let u disappointed - the Scones . Served with Rose petal jam and Clotted cream . Scones tastes buttery but not that filling and heavy . Crispy crust but soft core , no doubt that is tempting . Rose jam hit the limelight , strong rose fragrant but not artificial, goes extremely refreshing with the scones . For the clotted cream , creamy paste fill up with whipped cream , milky and smooth , add a hint of freshness to the scones .

Welcome snack is like sponge cake ,ordinary and dull . To be frank , I think is skimpy and sloppy compare to Four seasons . And since the high tea set provide lots of scones and pastries already , it shouldn't be cake again ! Just too heavy that certainly is a waste . Somehow I think the quality of the sponge cake is also a disappointment , soggy and even tastes a bit mash , highly NOT recommended .

Hehe !!! Same sentence !! I always got a extra room for cakes ! As the mandarin cake shop is so famous , we decided to order some of the signature . All are up to standard but their flavors seems to be more like american style , sweet with not that much layers ,usually in single flavors , not really delicate orexquisite one ( at least it 's colourful ! ) But , still tastes good .

Anyway , overall performance is fine and favorable , services are diligent . The ambience is cozy and comfortable . Comparing with the clipper lounge , I think Cafe Causette is more spacious with french window that u can enjoy a slow motion tea time .

This year, wanting something simple, yet casual with a lot of choices and not wanting to go down the buffet route, I decided Cafe Causette was the ideal location.

Connected with the Mandarin Cake shop, be entranced by the artistic displays of chocolate sculptures which change on a regular basis and enticed by their sweet delights of cake, chocolates or bakery selection, before going to the hostess desk and asking for a table.

Lighting is quite dim making for more of an intimate setting, but not to worry as it is still suitable for groups larger than two. I was the first to arrive, but happily kept myself entertained with their warm crusty roll, smearing aromatic tomato paste and cream cheese all over it

When everyone finally arrived, then came the daunting task of choosing what to order. As I mentioned before their menu contains a large variety of choices making everyone encounter a moment of indecisiveness, but luckily that soon passed.

A couple of light appetisers to share, traditional Caesar and Caprese salad. The Caesar salad is always a crowd pleaser, pre-tossed so that the crisp lettuce leaves are lightly covered with dressing accompanied by two rounds of bacon fried to a crisp and a hard-boiled egg where the yolks are still slightly runny. The Caprese salad arrives as two balls of tomatoes balanced by a snowy white sphere of Mozzarella cheese. Such a refreshing starter, bites of juicy tomato paired with a creamy yet slightly grainy cheese and of course it is necessary to drizzle the sweetly tart balsamico vinegar all over it~

For mains the Hainanese chicken rice was quite popular with three of us ordering it. Having had it before, it is a more than generous serving of chicken where you can choose to have breast or thigh fillet, served to you deboned over a bed of bak choy vegetables. Of course, Hainanese chicken would not be complete without an accompanying bowl of fragrant rice and the one served here has all the flavours of chicken stock and warming notes of ginger in every bite.

Mr. K and Miss I decided to have steak. I did not ask which cut they chose, but it looked tender enough and cooked to a lovely medium rare.

I wanted lamb that evening and Miss. K chose to have the same. Three cutlets of Australian lamb seared to the recommended medium state. I found the lamb to be a little fatty in places, but it was still enjoyable, especially with generous smears of mint jelly~

Like with most Western places, Cafe Causette tries to serve the whole table at the same time. This of course, is an agreeable action, but only if the kitchen staff can manage it well and keep everything warm until it is served. Maybe they were a little understaffed that evening or their timing was off, but the cabonara ordered by T and Miss R came out cold. Even when they requested them to re-heat it, the pasta still came back barely lukewarm. Disappointing as the spaghetti strands were al dente and the cream sauce quite well prepared.

No desserts (but if you do happen to stop by for dessert I highly recommend their bread and butter pudding with vanilla ice-cream) because there was cake~ Opera cake~! Delicate layers of alternating coffee and alcohol soaked sponge cake spread with cream, finished with a glossy chocolate glaze. Just one bite fills the palate with a lovely coffee aroma, perfect for coffee lovers.

I will always have a soft spot for Cafe Causette, especially knowing that if at any time I am unsure of what I want to eat, they will have something that I like. A lovely birthday dinner and even better company. Thank you~

在吃晚飯的期間,突然收到一張 文華月餅的圖片,心中讚嘆了一聲:好美呀!真是感謝同事的熱情誠邀,後來飯後甜就是到她家吃月餅了! 一盒盒的月餅已整裝待發,真是好感激安排。看到這盒文華的月餅,是比照片中的還要震撼,是典型在MO買蛋糕的盒子,是很長身的一盒,內面有四小盒四四方方 的,有2件是MO的小燈籠模樣,其餘的則是每盒一字--中秋佳節,光是那分細膩,已足以令人看着發呆一下下,賣相很強。原來每一盒都是小 小的奶黃月餅,每個小月餅也印上了文廿十華的招牌扇形logo。在切開後,稍有不足是奶黃跟月餅皮已分離,面且奶黃的部分比平常吃到的要淺色一點。入口牛 油皮的味道較奶黃餡要突出得多,月餅皮的部分假如薄身一點的話會比較出色,味道平實。奶黃月餅,我喜歡的還是半島酒店的出品呢,但以賣相而言,文華東方酒 店的出品確是很強。

玫瑰花醬股典雅的氛香,吃完呵氣如蘭
吃下倒是與strawberry jam 有幾份相似
煮果醬時由檸檬帶出的酸味
接著是由糖甘甜, 甜度對我就高了點

有那麼一個難題我一直以來也搞不懂:Cafe本指咖啡或咖啡店,偏偏多家酒店內的Cafe卻是吃自助餐的。不相信可在Openreice搜尋引擎器輸入Cafe,自動彈出的十家聯想餐廳都是在酒店的,而當中九家都是吃自助餐的。到底是為什麼呢?或許因為心裡懸著這個疑問,當我發現文華東方酒店的Cafe Causette並不是供應自助餐的,對它便生了莫名其妙的好感。決定來文華吃下午茶時亦毫不猶豫的訂了這裡的座位。文華酒店素以名物Rose Petal Jam迷倒不少饕客,亦令其下午茶被受矚目。可惜近年一直聞得人嘆道文華水準大不如前,徒具虛名。上兩週到過四季酒店吃下午茶,這次便來文華一探傳言虛實。下午茶三層架、Scone、English Muffins和窩夫都只是在下午三時至六時供應,不過a la carte甜品似乎比較吸引。Tiramisù ($98),咖啡味十足,芝士幼滑細膩。表面忌廉層上放上黑朱古力片再灑上少許可可粉,替代傳統單純蓋以可可粉的做法,不單令外形更吸引,亦為味蕾帶來了新鮮感。不過酒味欠奉,想是為遷就老少口味,若視酒味為不可缺少的話,這裡的出品就未必能滿足你。想吃下午茶經常都是因為想念Sco

想吃下午茶經常都是因為想念Scone,單點一份Scone的Cream Tea已教人很心滿意足。為了可獨享一份美味的Rose Petal Jam,我們索性豁出去,點來兩份Afternoon tea scones ($88)。文華的Scone應該可算是全港酒店出品中最大的,可惜吃下卻有疑似烘焙用的梳打粉或泡打粉味道,塗上果醬或忌廉也是抹不掉。質感雖鬆軟,卻有點像麵包,比四季酒店的明顯差了一大截。Scone讓人失望,但酸甜帶清香的Rose Petal Jam美味依然,最後把用剩的都吃個清光。

Freshly baked apricot tart ($98),黃梅撻小小的一件,幾乎比旁邊的一球乳酪雪糕還要小。黃梅味道還好,沒多添多餘的糖份。下方的吉士卻不夠幼滑甜美,撻皮亦太薄,口感不足。乳酪雪糕稍欠酸味,味道介乎乳酪和牛奶之間,不夠突出,整個組合缺乏亮點。

身邊不少朋友都推薦它的Bread and butter pudding ($98),本身不好麵包布甸,但這個牛油味濃郁,豐蛋香,實在邪惡難抗。吃自助餐時經常會看到麵包布甸表面烤得香脆的一層都給挖光,剩下底下甜膩的吉士蛋。但這裡的上下融合為一,香甜滋味,絕不會教人吃了表面就放棄底下。只是它自身的雲呢嗱味已甚足,再加伴上的雲呢嗱醬實在是畫蛇添足,要是搭配的是雪糕就好了。
環境不差,但不論這裡還是另一邊吃自助餐的Clipper Lounge也是偏像餐廳格局,桌與桌之間空間不太足夠。服務合格有餘,但就予人一種機械式的冷漠感,全場眾多服務員,一絲笑容也看不到。
今年已是香港文華東方酒店的五十週年了,金禧已至,風采又可尚存?近年香港酒店多了不少後起之秀,但願文華不止餐飲,在其他配套方面亦能保持競爭力,穩固其老江湖地位。
