I wasn't planning to visit this place even though I've heard their name few times before. I was on Wanchai ships street but in a rush to get few special tools for my dim sum class practice. A friend who accompany with me craved to b there for a quick bite since there were some empty seats inisde. She said they don't take reservation n normally it's always a long line outside. I feel like if u put a thin layer of anchovy sandwich a regular egg will get the same result. Apart from the taste, the presentation was nice. The foie gras beef burger was my least favorite. The foie gras was overpowering seems a mismatch n bun was a bit soggy. The Sangria was quite standard. Overall, I'd a good time there chatting with friend n def appreciate the presentation effort.

同朋友來食,已經8點多,個waitress話要等1個鐘call番我,我以為自己聽錯。。入去點左5樣野,最好味係個jamon, manchego&truffle toastie, 好香好好味,值得encore我地亦點左個ham,因為我鐘意重口味,所以都好鐘意ham另外我地點左scallop同baked bone marrow,不過不失,個 scallop有啲酸,冇晒scallop個味總括來講都幾好味,不過有啲貴同份量少,只係輕食。埋單2個人差不多600

the cod was sooo good! so tenderly cooked I'm missing it now. the best dish of this meal and a must-have-again!

overall, i'd say 22ship is worth trying and worth revisiting (when the wait is not long). tho the seating was quite tight, the overall atmosphere was laid back n comfy, quite a nice escape from hectic daily life


as for the food, they all came in nice presentation and tasted incredible. it's borderline pricy for its portion but the food reflects the price.

西班牙餐怎可以少了paella。全部的份量都很少,一早都有心理準備,但這paella比預期中還要少。味道還可以,好像吃到很重的蕃紅花味,反而沒有預期的鮮甜海鮮味。

Suckling pig又是我充滿期待的一道,只因我在Catalunya吃過最特別的原隻小豬。22 Ships是一份的,份量少一點,當然價錢亦相對低點。 已有兩片菠蘿,不用另外點。皮的外層又薄又脆,下層的脂肪軟滑無比,入口即融,剩下的只是一陣可口的油香。肉炆得十分腍。非常出色,兩間各有各好。Catalunya用燒,比較乾身,吃到更突出的肉味和油香,皮冇咁膩。22 Ships的,肉沾上汁的味,更香濃和濕潤。

最後是甜品,煙霧瀰漫地出場。Honeycomb非常鬆脆,很甜,夾著yoghurt sorbet吃剛好。綠茶味濃郁,幾塊薄脆帶點苦苦的甘香。唯一挑剔的是,份量太少了。

Finally I tasted 22 Ships' food. In essence, it's definitely worth a try but not tasty enough to keep me coming back. Rather, it made me miss all the tapas I had in Barcelona last year.

The best dish was spicy cod with chorizo, peppers and squid ink aioli (168). This dish, I want to have one more time. It gives you an idea about what the chef meant by "deformalised fine dining". I personally appreciate Dot Cod's fish dishes as they are cooked so skillfully that fish is usually very tender and moist. This spicy cod from 22 ships paralleled that tenderness and it blended really well with red peppers and spicy chorizo. I wondered why they do not have other dishes making use of delicious chorizos. 

Today's special menus- I tried clam (48) and prawn (98). Clams were fresh, cooked with ginger and corianders. It was delicious, so I ordered the second portion. The flavour balance was good. But it's something I could cook at home, too.
Prawn- only one piece came stir fried with some bean sprouts and choi sum(?). I found it rather overpriced. Just a baked(?) prawn for 98. Messy presentstion. Dry flesh. Spanish breakfast or other egg/veggie dishes costing 78-98 would have been a better choice.

Pan con tomate (38 for 1 piece)
 I learned Spanish for solid four years and can read, write and speak in Spanish. This "bread with tomato" had its own charm but I found it too savoury. The authentic pan con tomate tastes a lot more mild and of good extra virgin olive oil. 22 ships reminded me of Ten's in Barcelona a little bit in the way that its dishes are more twisted? Or in good words more sophisticated than usual tapas. Did they use tomato paste? It tasted that strong.  To make it worse, Iberico bellota placed on top of the bread tasted way too oxidised for me- I know when you keep jamon in the freezer and defrost it, it does not taste as good as it did at the point of purchase. It was exactly that taste I got after freezing and defrosting the best iberico jamon I brought from La Boqueria in Barcelona. How unfortunate.

Bone marrow on toast (98)
My hubby liked it. For me, it was too rich. Bone marrow was rich. The jam on the bread was rich. I wished the spread we got on the bread had sweeter taste (to be specific, apple chutney), then the whole balance would have been a lot better. 

Slowly cooked lamb shoulder (158)
My biggest failure in picking out a good dish. It was "slowly cooked". I must have mistaken it for "roasted lamb lack". One of my buddies mentioned 22 ships' lamb was so good, so without perusing the wording, I just ordered "lamb". 
The texture was brually soft which was not what I wanted.  I wanted well roasted chewy, juicy lamb, but this dish was dry and almost mashed. Garnish was plain and the only flavour I could taste well was cumin.  Next time, I really want to try their roast lamb. Put it back on the menu please.

Service was okay. I asked the waitress to make sure fish come before lamb. But lamb came first. Maybe I found spicy cod more delicious because I was disappointed with lamb so much prior to having cod.

We had a Cova mango dome cake waiting for us at home, so did not order any dessert. And we were so full. 7 plates including 2 clams were sufficient for a couple. 

Next time, I would like to try-
Spicy cod (again)
Fried oyster
Spanish breakfast
Suckling pig
Seafood paella

I have this feeling 22 ships fare better in fish section than in meat part. My satisfaction was higher in seafood based dishes on the whole.

I personally liked Catalunya's tapas in Singapore. Never tried HK Catalunya. To compare 22 ships and Catalunya, I've got to try 22 ships' paella and suckling pig.

No service charge- we missed adding the tip to the bill we got. I prefer "10% service charge" to no service charge as I am not used to adding the tip myself.  Sorry to the waitress who served us. 

Billing- 22 ships entered the price of prawn as "198" instead of "98" written on the black board.
I spotted the error on the bill and asked them to correct it. What if I did not pay attention to detail? I would have been charged 198 for one dry piece of prawn....costing more than a plate of suckling pig (168) or paella (128).

They corrected it, but still.. No apologies. 
It's these little things that make a difference. Service wasn't bad at all but it was not great either. It was a special day for my hubby and myself, so we just kept things happy.

SETTING

Very cool vibe in this tiny restaurant on Ship Street. Nothing spectacular on the décor but overall it works. The music is loud and the ambiance very lively.
One thing to mention is how tight the seating is. After waiting a good 45 minutes at their sister outlet Ham & Sherry having beers, the three of us got called by the very nice host.
We were indicated that out seats were on the window side. Two seating outside and one on the inside. I knew that the seating was tight but actually this time I was facing someone from another party of three! That’s fine by me but if you’re looking for just a minimum of intimacy forget it.

FOOD

After the non-reservation policy – 45 mns wait for my table – we were HUNGRY.

We ordered:
1) beef tartare, egg yolk, parsley, crisps (138)
2) scallop ceviche, yuzu, chinese radish (138)
3) salt cod, chorizo, red pepper, squid ink aioli (168)
4) 2 orders of their iberico pork and foie gras burger, avocado, pickled cucumbers (158 for two sliders so total of 316 HKD)
5) slow cooked lamb shoulder, sweet potato, cumin (158)
6) bone marrow special from the blackboard

Everything was fine with good balance in flavors and interesting presentation. Special mention for their seafood dishes : scallops and cod were great. The burgers were very nice, we enjoyed the avocado sauce and the pickled cucumber. The price is a bit of a stretch though. 158 for two super small sliders….ok.

For desserts, we had: - textures of chocolate, mint (78) - strawberry, toasted marshmallow, Chantilly (78) I haven’t had toasted marshmallows since I was six so that was fun. The chocolate dessert was fun too. It had a surprising fizzling thing in the small chocolate bites. So very fun and tasty desserts.

SERVICE

Good. The waitress was lovely and took good care of us eventhough she could barely reach our small part of the table-window.

PRICE

Roughly 700hkd per person including 7 dishes, 2 desserts, water, a fairly decent bottle of wine and the tip. Hmmm, I would not say it’s great value for money, that’s for sure. It’s ok. It’s borderline pricey for what it is.

But all in all, it’s quite fun and we always enjoy to go there once in a while. Just beware of the sitting arrangement, it’s TIGHT!

Often one finds a watered down lunch menu at many places but not here.How should I describe the food. Well, perhaps from the point of view of how to put it together and the ingredients that go into making up each dish. I find most of the small dishes tastefully put together and the ingredients work together

They serve the same menu for lunch and dinner. Often one finds a watered down lunch menu at many places but not here.
How should I describe the food. Well, perhaps from the point of view of how to put it together and the ingredients that go into making up each dish. I find most of the small dishes tastefully put together and the ingredients work together for an effect that is greater than the sum total of the parts. What you throw together and how they work with each other and how the whole looks on the plate is really a matter of the chef's taste buds and education. There are many places where this is not done well, not because of the quality of the ingredients or anything like that, but simply because the chef lacks that quality. It works well here. I usually avoid fusion cuisine but I love it here.
The main courses tend to be a bit more mainstream and I tend to avoid them because that is not why I come here to dine.
Some interesting dishes but also bear in mind that some you can make easily at home. Useful to know for home entertainment.
Some of the favorites:
Pork burgers with foie gras. They are really small so they are what is known in the USA as sliders. I would say three bites each. The pork is grounded and meshed with a bit of foie gras, which gives it a slight lift in fragance but I wouldn't say you get a distinct foie gras taste. Actually that is not bad. I had burgers with a piece of foie gras on top but they had not worked too well because the foie gras gets mushy and somewhat disgusting. The foie gras treatment given to these pork burgers is fine. It is served with a thick green sauce, I think of avocado and lemon grass. Each burger comes with a piece of pickle on top of the patty but do add the pickled cucumber which the dish comes with because they are sweet tasting and not the same as the pickle inside the burger.
Truffle ham toasties with quail egg - Basically cheese, parma ham and truffle paste inside. The portion is small but enough for 4 persons to get a small piece each. The small quail egg is excellent and fried sunny side up. I think it doesn't do much for the toasties. I usually order this for guests who have not been here before but frankly it is easily made at home.
Beet root salad with goat cheese - Well, they have altered the recipe to save on the cost of the beet roots. Previously they take whole cooked beets and cut out disks from the center and discard the rest. What a huge waste. Now, they use beet chunks, so presumably they are using the whole beet now. There are yellow beets and deep red beets.  The previous version was small delicate beet cyclinders with goat cheese and micro greens, that are now replaced by not so elegant chunks. I wish they would go back to the old version and figure out what else to do with the unused portion of the beet instead.
They have made slight changes to the menu so they do not offer crispy fish skin with salt cod brandade cream on top with sprinkled paprika any more. I miss this one.
Dessert is interesting and refreshing.  We had a green tea mousse with yoghurt sorbet and crispy honeycomb. I don't get wowed by chocolate dessert so I usually avoid the chocolate composition dessert but others love it. Equally I do not like the peanut butter dessert and avoid it. But we did not order these and so they do not affect my rating for this visit.
It is the height of summer here but it is winter in Australia. We had a steak tartare with a layer of grated Tasmanian truffle on top. Nice.
As the price comes to $500 per person before wine but includes a few bottles of bubbly water, and in my opinion one gets a more interesting and better experience than most fine dining restaurants that charges 3 times the price, I think it amounts to good value for foodies.

一直都在朋友口中聽22 ships 好好味! 但一直都沒有chance去試. 難得公眾假期沒有行程,決定下午去試一試 沒有人排隊, receptionist 好nice地介紹當天的special. 店內位置不算多, waitress 讓我們選bar枱 / 窗邊, 在一個好天氣的下午, 當然選擇window seat!好得意的2個mini burgers, 加上cucumber as side, 用木tray盛上.中間的pork 中夾住鵝肝, 很好的搭配! pork 好juicy, 又有小量強烈鵝盰的味很喜歡這個小burger, 和朋友share 剛剛好, 否則可能有小小漏.這個red snapper 煎得不錯, 跟配的醬汁很match.旁邊的sides 也可與魚一起吃 另外可以加$25要一杯rose, 我們沒有加, 因為要去別的地方.如果跟朋友慢慢吃tapas, 配一杯酒, 應該會好享受!一定會再回來這家22 ships, 試其他的tapas!

Scallop (138) 帶子盛在小小甜品蹀裹,只有一隻,切開幾片,淋上味汁,再點綴一堆五顏六色沙律醬和胡蘿卜等蔬菜裝飾。帶子似乎沒有鮮味,是俾200元可以在日式放題任食嘅個種貨。

3. burger : 有肉汁,味道夠 但騷味重

而且吃完我只覺得膩連半飽也沒有. 這家正如其他評語所說 : Over priced & over rated
題外話/補充資料: 值得一讚的是這裡的洗手間乾淨又佈置得不錯, 是殘廁格局. 相比外面吃東西的擁擠佈局好太多. 在這裡吃東西又貴又少食物味道總體來說又不合格, 環境和對客之道令人覺得有壓力又不能享受難得的相聚一刻.

於香港其他的西班牙餐廳似乎只供應紅酒Sangria,一般加入大量水果,橙、蘋果、菠蘿等等。這兒的似乎只有頂部鋪上的dried raspberry 乾厘子,飲品內見不到水果,因此味道不怎樣fruity,sweetener尚不多,味帶少許酒的甘苦,慣喝甜甜地有水果咀嚼的Sangria,我就不太欣賞這杯不一樣的Sangria。

相比前者,用白酒調製的Sangria味較甜,估計是白酒本身比紅酒甜及有果香,而且加了Ginger & Lime薑及檸檬,味道酸酸地,較為可口。

吃得有序,由淡至濃,先來一道海鮮,Scallop ceviche, citrus, carrot, tarragon

此乃一道熱門前菜,親睹廚師做了多份,賣相奪目,色彩繽紛!

一客四片生帶子,半透明薄薄的,鋪上橙、黃、粉紅色的粒子,旁邊一半面積伴以紅蘿蔔卷物及數棵青、黃、橙色之球狀慕絲,兩片綠色的葉子也許是tarragon,拼圖艷麗。

Ceviche的做法就是用檸檬汁浸泡著海鮮醃味,因此味道在預期內的帶酸,而且帶子上面的粒子是橙及檸檬做成,因此帶子入口鮮嫩汁豐,有強烈的橙香及檸檬香,味酸醒胃。旁邊的粒狀慕絲,成份同樣是橙及檸檬;tarragon 有的是香草的香,入口沒有強烈味道。

伴菜紅蘿蔔切了薄片及卷起成雪糕筒狀,內藏綠色慕絲餡料,是青檸汁做的,味道微酸。

總括來說,酸味可以提昇鮮味,醃味帶子匹配,而出色的廚技,竟然把檸檬、青檸及橙做成不同形態的調味料,可是酸味配件過多,味蕾被酸味衝激,有些蓋過了帶子本身的鮮味。

一客兩件迷你漢堡,包身圖渾鬆脹,餡料厚身豐富,配以牛油果醬及酸青瓜,賣相已非常吸引!果然一試難忘!

依我之見,此道黑毛豬鵝肝漢堡絕對是22 ships的鎮店名菜,棄用傳統牛肉饀料,創新地用黑毛豬肉加鵝肝混合成肉餅,口感幼嫩汁豐,完全不乾不嚡口,意想不到的滋味,也許相比貴價和牛肉扒更嫩滑出色。亦見店內客人皆有點選,相信志同道合,大家認為定是必吃之選!

是日精選-烤黑毛豬腿,烤功出色,皮脆肉嫩有肉香,皮下無脂肪,上桌有十五分鐘,豬皮依然香酥煙靱,灑上大量黑胡椒及紅胡椒粒同烤,香辛惹味,肉汁充足,絕不乾身,配菜的紅辣椒已烤至軟腍,吸收了肉香。

這道烤豬腿,就是鍾情粵式燒豬的同行食友亦稱讚,另一心水推薦。

最後是甜品 texture of chocolate, mint

好戲連場,又是一道拍照好材料,外型如泥土之一角,有一棵大蘑菇,事實上,蘑菇是鬆脆的輕身糖餅,菇莖是雪糕,地上深棕色的泥土是大小不一的朱古力餅碎及朱古力,甜美有口感,非常美味,好玩滿足!
 
題外話/補充資料: 特別要稱讚侍應員阿Ken,隨了主動介紹及講解菜式外,竟然有自我介紹名字,記憶中,只有高檔食肆包廳宴席及經理級人員方才會告知客人自己名字,是22ships的訓練?又或他也許不只是一個waiter?而他亦非常醒目,未舉手已走到面前服務,前途無限!

漢堡內還有酸瓜,令到口感更為豐富﹔酸瓜味道不致太酸,所以沒有搶走作為主菜的豬肉味道﹔而附設的酸瓜即使單吃亦可,在旁的牛油果醬與酸瓜相比,酸味不太重的酸瓜更是我杯茶,與漢堡配搭更添風味。

我覺得日間的22Ships很熱鬧,可能是因為座位較接近,大家的互動帶動整間餐廳氣氛很好,然而晚上的氣氛想必更為熱烈,與三兩知己圍在四人座,品嚐特色的西班牙菜與美酒,期待下一次與友聚時可以在這晚餐。

一直想來22 Ships,今次終於有機會了! 知道這裡人氣超爆但坐位不多,我與同樣喜愛吃西班牙菜的友人在六時前已到達餐廳門口,等待其開門營業。我們選擇了面向大街的坐位,與後面坐在BAR枱的人只有兩吋距離。但這裡不到30分鐘便全院滿坐,不愧為入圍熱門食堂!點了西班牙Rioja的full body紅酒,透過廣闊的玻璃窗一邊欣賞街景,一邊等食物。 48個月食橡果的黑毛豬風乾火腿;火腿十分甘香,軟稔,60克只需$138,在其他餐廳怎可能用這個價錢吃到這個級數的火腿呢?   Suckling Pig: 這個菜一上枱時我嚇了一跳!  與之前在其他餐廳吃到的相比,這個suckling pig的份量大很多! 豬肉軟稔,皮脆,若配上紅色一粒粒的配料來吃,會有些微辣。配以菠蘿片及紅甜椒一起吃,可減少肥膩感。 Salt baked beetroot, balsamic cream, malt crumble : 吃畢整份suckling pig後來個微酸的沙律消滯一下。這個沙律是店員的推介,Beetroot清甜,可配以綠色的薄荷醬或杏色的Balsamic cream。這道菜放入了麥芽粉碎,味道有些像吃

Suckling Pig: 這個菜一上枱時我嚇了一跳!  與之前在其他餐廳吃到的相比,這個suckling pig的份量大很多! 豬肉軟稔,皮脆,若配上紅色一粒粒的配料來吃,會有些微辣。配以菠蘿片及紅甜椒一起吃,可減少肥膩感。

Salt baked beetroot, balsamic cream, malt crumble : 吃畢整份suckling pig後來個微酸的沙律消滯一下。這個沙律是店員的推介,Beetroot清甜,可配以綠色的薄荷醬或杏色的Balsamic cream。這道菜放入了麥芽粉碎,味道有些像吃麥提沙的感覺,十分特別。

Liberico pork & foie gras burger : 迷你漢堡,內裡的鵝肝 很juicy,配以牛油果醬及青瓜的清新,平衡了鵝肝的肥膩感。唯liberico pork太鹹,破壞了整體感覺。
