My family and I went to this restaurant on 16 October 2005 as my 3 years old daughter likes to have English high tea very much. But the service and price are wholly disappointing. We went to the Harbourside intercontinental at 3:30pm. Harbourside was only half full but we were told that there was no seat available!!! They told us to settle at a 2-person-table at the reception! We insisted to have a proper table. The receptionist immediately gave us a table!!The quality of food is acceptable but
We went to the Harbourside intercontinental at 3:30pm. Harbourside was only half full but we were told that there was no seat available!!! They told us to settle at a 2-person-table at the reception! We insisted to have a proper table. The receptionist immediately gave us a table!!
The quality of food is acceptable but the service was poor. After we had sat down for 20 minutes, no waiter came to give us any water or menu. The only service we have was the receptionist giving us a bady seat for my daughter.
After getting the baby seat, we have to wait for another 5 to 10 minutes to get the menu. And then another 5 minutes for someone to take our order. We only ordered a tea set as it was the supreme command of my daughter (perhaps it is not worthwhile to serve a client who ordered only a tea set!!).
After the tea set arrived, it took another 15 minutes for the tea to arrive. Perhaps the waiters (a local Chinese i believe) knew that my family was Chinese and believed that we had martial art training who could sustain high temperature of the metal tea pot. We were given a metal tea pot (and metal water pot) without a heat-proof pad on the handles. When I tried to ask for one, nobody seems to care about me. I realise that I can sustain high temperature by grapping the very heat metal tea pot and pour tea for myself and my ladies (without the assistance of any waiters, of course) eventually.
The only courtesy I received was when I checked my bill and presented my centurion card, someone finally said, thank you sir, and we had given you a discount....Who cares about the discount with that type of service...
Some other foreign tourists/patrons were treated completely different. The best service I got, was from by a Filipino waiter, who apologised for "keep [my family] waiting for the tea set".
Another disappointing feature is that there were many mainlanders at the lobby. They were smoking heavily. The whole lobby was full of cigarette smell, and smog.
I believe I will never return to Intercontinental and I regret that I came here that day.
