We were going to try some kushikatsu (deep fried skewers) in our Japan trip but didn’t get to coz of our tight itinerary. Their weekend lunch sets include an appetizer, kushikatsu (deep fried skewers) & kushiyaki (grilled skewers) a main and a drink~ there’s a wide selection of food and I didn’t feel deprived of choices as a vegetarian myself 🥰

We ordered a 4-skewer and 7-skewer weekend izakaya lunch plus additional kushikatsu and a dessert.

The overall quality was really good~ we were a bit worried that it might be “heaty” but then their kushikatsu didn’t have this problem at all! The batter was thin and crispy and wasn’t greasy👍🏻The kushiyaki were charred but still moist inside😋

Our favourite was the cheese skewer~ loved the melty cheese in the crispy thin batter🤩 The one with truffle might be even better~my friend said truffles and cheese made the best pair😋 (I didn’t try it coz it had some Parma ham on top🥺🙈)

The soft boiled egg is another one if their must-tries... I mean, how to resist this creamy runny egg yolk ? 😉 The gooey rice cakes and the cinnamon-y crispy Fuji apple were great too!

What I appreciated was that the staff were very friendly and helpful that they clearly explained to us how to enjoy the skewers before each dish was served💚

Will definitely come back again in the evening to try their wide variety of Japanese wine 😉

之前喺日本經過一間好有風味嘅串掦店,但因為行程太趕,所以最終都係冇試到🙈
知道香港都有一間幾出名嘅串揚店Jan Jan, 所以一返到嚟就即刻book枱去食🤗

餐廳氣氛好好,一入去就見到嗰好可愛嘅石像,入面亦有日式卡座,木色嘅裝橫好有日本feel😉

佢地居酒屋午餐包咗前菜、串揚、串燒、主菜同飲品~串物選擇好多,連素食嘅小篇都有好多選擇🤩飲品就連比較冷門嘅Calpis都有~

我哋最後試兩set週末居酒屋午餐,別係4串set($148)同7串嘅set($178),格外再叫咗少少其它食物~
💚黑松露芝士、芝士、紅薯、連根、年糕、薯仔串揚
💚半熟蛋串揚
💚山芋串燒、椎茸串燒
💚醬油飯團
💚味噌飯團
💚炸富士蘋果

啲串揚質素非常高~初初都怕會有啲熱氣,點知啲串揚脆得嚟一啲都唔油,炸得好均勻,脆漿又夠薄👍🏻串燒香口得嚟唔乾😋

特別鍾意佢個芝士串揚,一層又薄又脆嘅炸漿入面包住拉絲芝士,好正🥰同行友人話佢嗰串黑松露芝士,成件事好夾,仲正👍🏻 可惜上面有火腿,小篇冇得試🙈

招牌流心蛋亦係必試之選~咬完啲啲蛋汁流晒出嚟,好治癒😉其他食物亦好有水準,年薯串楊煙煙韌韌,山芋亦新鮮爽脆😋甜品炸富士蘋果都幾好味,有少少似蘋果批,但爽爽地,冇咁漏🍎

難得嘅係餐廳好有誠意,餐前會送一份生椰菜俾客人(通常淨係正宗日本餐廳先有)💚每上一道菜,店員都好有心機解釋返每道食物應該點食,點啲乜嘢最夾👍🏻

餐廳仲有好多唔同嘅日本酒供應,下次一定會試吓夜晚嚟,同朋友飲吓酒傾吓偈😉

炸蘆筍入口鮮嫩無渣,唔會因為係炸過而變到老哂
串燒都唔錯,牛肉肉質好嫩好淋
凍蕃茄作為一個開胃既前菜都做得好好,夠哂凍,入口清新
食炸野飲生啤真係最佳拍檔,大大杯,口感清爽,CHEERS!

I had been trying to find a good Kushikatsu restaurant in Hong Kong but there aren’t that many. I came to Jan Jan as it was recommended by one of my Japanese friends and she said she had been here a few times already.There are a few must have items. The size of the angel prawn was already a highlight, and it was fried perfectly. The texture was nice and outside so crispy. All the food tasted great. The environment was nice and the staff were very friendly. The place was quite crowded at dinner time and it might be a bit noisy. But that is the case for most restaurants in Hong Kong.

話說呢我個人一向都唔好日本野,但朋友再三邀請我去試下呢間串揚專門店,串燒我就知係咩,但串揚我就唔知啦,所以抱著對串揚嘅好奇心,嚟到呢間JAN JAN 串揚專門店。我地其實食完正餐嚟嘅,唸住嚟食幾串飲杯清酒吹下水。睇MENU就發現咗串揚同串燒嘅不同之處,一個係Fried,一個係Grilled。我地都叫咗幾多下,我就最中意食有兩款,一係海膽湯茶卷另一個三文魚子海鮮球,海膽湯茶卷有大大塊海膽係面,三文魚子海鮮球有陪他他醬同三文魚籽,一口一啖真係好滿足。炸粉好薄,即使係食緊炸物完全唔會覺得油膩。同埋呢度啲野食選擇都幾多,完全可以選擇係度食正餐。

我份人不嬲都好鐘意食煎炸香口野,不過年紀大怕熱氣所以都少左食只係間唔中食下當獎勵自己之前去大阪旅行食過一間炸串專門店,個種滋味真係念念不忘...咁啱俾我上網見到原來香港都有間炸串專門店,當然要黎朝聖一下啦佢地既炸串價錢都唔算太貴,由$19-$29不等由於我自己一個人黎試,就叫左佢地既午市套餐黎試下佢地既午市套餐有3個價錢,分別係$148/$178/$198個分別係4串、7串同10串串燒同炸串都可以揀咁我就揀左4串個款款式就叫左黑松露芝士、沙椎魚同埋兩隻炸蝦 (因為見到隔離個食客點既炸蝦超大隻...而我本身都好鐘意食蝦,就忍唔住叫兩隻)黑松露芝士個款佢會加塊parma ham係外層,同芝士都幾夾~仲有豐富拉絲呀!!黑松露味道好香濃,唔錯沙椎魚就一向都好適合用黎炸既,以前係某間日本餐廳食過吉列沙椎魚都幾好食呢種魚肉質滑之餘又少骨,細細條容易入口,同埋唔會有腥味炸得剛剛好,保留到魚肉既滑漏質感等左一陣終於黎到我最期待既炸蝦真係好大隻!! 佢係連頭同腳一齊炸個種蝦頭同腳炸到卜卜脆,完全係可以食埋落肚個種蝦身好大條,肉質彈牙爽口,真係啖啖滋味食完一隻真係唔夠喉,好彩我叫左兩隻啫之後輪到主菜,有飯

呢種魚肉質滑之餘又少骨,細細條容易入口,同埋唔會有腥味

等左一陣終於黎到我最期待既炸蝦
真係好大隻!! 佢係連頭同腳一齊炸個種
蝦頭同腳炸到卜卜脆,完全係可以食埋落肚個種
蝦身好大條,肉質彈牙爽口,真係啖啖滋味
食完一隻真係唔夠喉,好彩我叫左兩隻啫

之後輪到主菜,有飯團、飯卷、飯團茶漬同蕎麥麵揀
我就叫左冷蕎麥麵,冷麵汁幾醒胃,有少少酸個種,都幾好味

午餐時間搵食唔容易,曾經經過這間日式餐廳,但因沒有訂位,full哂。今次有心去試,預先訂位,終於可以一試。一進門,已聞到串燒香味四散,食材用料都非常認真,由於午餐時間有限,點了定食,燒出的味道相當惹味。走之前又有一個意外的小驚喜—免費小食串燒,好滿足!

JanJan串揚灣仔個間驟眼睇唔係好多位,所以如果幾個朋友上去食,建議大家book定位先🤟🏻,今次咁啱拉大隊有得坐tatami房☺️(ps 5ppl)一坐低已經嗌左成枱野食🙈我特別揀左免治鴨胸串揚同沙椎魚串揚,免治鴨胸🦆有淡淡鴨香味,表皮薄又鬆脆,不油膩,香料調節得啱啱好,感覺有啲似鴨胸版嘅章魚燒。而沙椎魚🐟絕對係重點推介‼️炸得非常甘香鬆脆,但入邊魚肉想像不到的香滑多汁,食得出師傅手勢與眾不同。

Located in Wanchai, there is an interesting stone mascot greeting customers entering the restaurant. Apparently the place is popular and is close to full house at 7 pm. We were seated at the counter looking into the kitchen, and there are also the counter seats facing window, as well as Japanese-style tables on the side.

We had ordered many different skewers to try out. First was Grilled Chicken Kidney ($24). Seasoned well, the texture was crunchy and with a good bite. A nice start.

Next was served Grilled Mentaiko ($48). There is a hint of spiciness in the fish roe which provided additional flavors.

Then came the Deep-fried Kisu, or Whiting Fish ($39) and Deep-fried Scallop ($39). The flour coating on the seafood was thin and deep-fried beautifully to golden brown, wrapping the scallop to keep it moist and soft.

We can switch back to the grill dishes, including Yam ($23) and Potato ($19). Dipping into the signature sauce offered a great complements of flavors to the original taste of the vegetable.

Always my favorite in any izakaya, the Grilled Chicken Meatball ($23) did not disappoint. There are small pieces of the soft bones mixed with the meat, giving an extra crunchy bite. The special sauce brushed on the surface had a nice balance of savory and sweetness.

Finishing the first round we were still fairly hungry so we ordered some more. The Grilled Bacon Wrapped Salmon ($25) is an interesting combination and I found the savory from the bacon a nice match with the salmon. The Grilled Chicken and Scallion ($23) on the other hand is comparatively more mediocre.

Then we tried a few more kushikatsu to wrap up, including the Chicken & Shiso ($21). Prepared for the strong shiso aromas, the skewer is in fact not very strong on that note.

The Lotus Root ($27) and Sweet Potato ($23) are nice as well, with the flour coating thin and fried to the perfect degree. Both are quite well received.

The Asparagus ($31) is fairly long, and so the restaurant used a tinfoil to wrap one end so it is easier to eat. I found the middle section onwards are a bit too chewy and could not be bitten off with teeth.

Trying also the Grilled Onigiri ($23), that might be one of the least-liked in all the dishes. It was grilled nicely with a crispy surface permeating with nice aromas, but it was just too salty.

The bill was $770 including for each of us two glasses of soft-drinks. Overall I would say the quality is decently good but tend to be a bit on the salty side, that would probably is to be expected to allow better pairing with beer. Service is quite good and friendly, and the restaurant now has another outlet in TST too.

The staff lead us to the bar table, we can put our belongings inside the seat. The restaurant is quite small. And lots of Japanese customers come here for dinner. The staff put down a box of sauces and broccoli after we sit down. I like the spicy sauce, it's less spicy. The staff explained the name of the food. I've had kushikatsu in Osaka before.. but I'd say this is one of the best kushikatsu I've had! (Even better than the food I had in Osaka!)The atmosphere was real nice, where it felt very authentically styled izakaya with cosy lighting and helpful staff.  Beware the place is very small and may be tough to get bookings - I had booked for the wrong day but staff was able to accommodate so, it was greatly appreciated.I had tried the kushikatsu dishes (deep fried food on skewers) - and greatly recomm

I've had kushikatsu in Osaka before.. but I'd say this is one of the best kushikatsu I've had! (Even better than the food I had in Osaka!)The atmosphere was real nice, where it felt very authentically styled izakaya with cosy lighting and helpful staff.  Beware the place is very small and may be tough to get bookings - I had booked for the wrong day but staff was able to accommodate so, it was greatly appreciated.

I had tried the kushikatsu dishes (deep fried food on skewers) - and greatly recommend the shiso leaf wrapped chicken and also the cheese skewers.  
Even the grilled skewers were quite nice - especially the beef tongue which were juicy, succulent cubes grilled to perfection.  I personally do not like thinly sliced ox tongue - so a key reason why I liked Jan Jan's dish.  Jan Jan also has an amazing selection of sauces - their own-made chilli sauce is worth a try!

Although I didn't have time to have any of the beers/sakes - their selection is quite diverse (with shochu too!)!
题外话/补充资料: Recommending booking in advance, and specify on seats you'd like to have. The place was nearly fully booked on an early Saturday evening.
