Waking up after a night shift, I always crave a simple bowl of noodles and ice cold lemon tea to bring me back to life. Wanting to try some where new other than my usual place, I chose Chiu Ball.Located in Tsim Sha Tsui, it was a pretty nice looking place. Hip hop played in the background. That was definitely different. I guess Chiu Ball is supposed to be hip considering the word "Chiu" is a bit of a play on the Cantonese slang for hip.As it was afternoon tea time, they gave me an afternoon tea

As it was afternoon tea time, they gave me an afternoon tea menu. Menu is in English and Chinese. You order by writing on the laminated menu. There is no 10% service charge. A standard drink is included for free. It appears you can choose the type of noodle you want and any toppings you want as well. Very customizable.
I decided on the fish ball, fish cake and dumpling noodles ($48) in a thick egg noodle. I wanted all the toppings except the preserved cabbage. Portion size was ok. Not too big and not too small. But this was pretty terrible. The soup had no flavor. I understand that places want to lay off on the MSG but there is also something called seasoning? The ffish balls were ok. Not very bouncy but at least not soggy. The fish cakes were the same. The fish dumplings were a bit tough as the wrapping was too thick. The noodles still had an odd aftertaste.
For a bowl of noodles, this place was pretty disappointing. At least it wasn't ridiculously expensive like so many new noodle shops these days trying to cater to a younger audience. I won't be back.
