Came back for a revisit here for a semi-sweet albeit Cold Tofu Curd, just to re-evaluate and to be fair to the shop. Could not bring ourselves to order Hot version, its so damn hot outside!Semi-Sweet Cold Tofu Curdn this occasion, unlike last time which had no beans taste AT ALL and it was even sour, this time it wasn't sour at all. I think it carried a hint of bean's taste in today's batch but it was very weak. My friend said the same thing. Apparently the sourness comes from it being unfresh

Semi-Sweet Cold Tofu Curd:
On this occasion, unlike last time which had no beans taste AT ALL and it was even sour, this time it wasn't sour at all. I think it carried a hint of bean's taste in today's batch but it was very weak. My friend said the same thing. Apparently the sourness comes from it being unfresh upon research - this didn't surface this time. Good!

The texture however was very '鞋' today. Even for a cold version, this shouldn't be the case. My hot one last time was also quite dense.

I would score this time around high '3' and higher if it was more smoother on the mouth!

難得經過呢度...決定一嚐公和老店既豆腐花又咁岩lunch時間...唔駛等可以直接入去..good我坐低order完冇耐...阿姐就畢好比我 豆漿($5): 好香豆味...稍甜豆腐花($7): 要左熱既...夠豆味...夠綿但不夠滑溜不過7蚊一碗咁平...算......埋單14蚊...會再幫襯既...但相信唔會係呢間啦

Its strange that I have actually been to this shop a long time before, but never knew its name and its fame in HK - in fact, I didn't even realise it had another old shop in 九龍城 under the same name, nor of the other outlets. All I knew was its half hidden location.Ordered these:煎魚肉豆腐 - This was ok I suppose, but the fish part is 'surprisingly' not as good as the one in 人和 shop in Mongkok, despite that being boring as well. Ordered these:

煎魚肉豆腐 - This was ok I suppose, but the fish part is 'surprisingly' not as good as the one in 人和 shop in Mongkok, despite that being boring as well. The beancurd here was not very smooth, it had a slight sour bean taste but that's expected in Hong Kong. Not aromatic or great asting tofu at all.

Cold Soy Milk - Very sweet. Upon my first sip, I realised I should have asked for non-sugared one. Very little bean taste if any.

Hot Tofu Curd - Utterly disappointing. To claim as HK's no.1 tofu shop or at least that's what everyone says, I was surprised how little tofu smell and taste there was..... the water it came in was also way too sweet, covering its weakness perhaps? Excuse me for being graphic but I tried to suck out the sugar-water in each sip, before tasting the Tofu Curd. I just couldn't detect any good bean taste from it, at most, there was a slight soy bean sourness.

When I ate the same at 人和, there was at least a little trace of bean taste, despite it not being apparent. In fact, I thought this Tofu Curd wasn't even that smooth, compared to some other ones I've had, it was also breaking apart in chunks rather than slivers.

Here, the Tofu Curd Taste and Texture is BELOW STANDARDS.

Perhaps that highlights the different 'tasting' abilities and weaknessed or strong points of each individual. I've noticed that some people seem to think there's a lot of beef taste in Pro-Burger and Freshness Burger, whereas to me Pro-Burger had no meat taste but only Thyme Herb taste, whereas Freshness Burger was rather fake and also had seasoning and herb taste only. Whilst I detected a lot of 米味 in 添好運點心's 腸粉 (at the beginning and also after its gone downhill), a lot of people think there's no 米味 in their Rice Paper Roll. Somehow, everyone has a little bit of differing opinions in their tastebuds. Perhaps, my weakness is in detecting Bean's taste lol..... but surprisingly, I've had slightly better at 人和 so far, also, the tofu's at Apita or CitySuper, or some specialty shops in Kyoto and Tokyo had very powerful tasting tofu's (although eaten as savoury).

Personally, a Crying Face and I'm not influenced by other's scores. Therefore a high '2' at most. However may be I should give it the benefit of the doubt? Since everyone gave it big smiles. Not sure.

身處深水埗,不難想到公和荳品廠 ... 各處都有分店,但這間,老掉牙的樣子,大概是總店吧 ... 門口放著一個鑊子,煎豆腐如舖瓦磚般,滿佈一鑊,一個女人在煎著豆腐,另一邊廂則售賣豆腐 ... 只有數張摺桌,佈置簡陋,瓷磚牆身、紙皮石地、天花吊扇 ... 食肆?說它是街市豆腐檔倒更貼切,但環境卻很整潔 ... 店內有一部六七十年代(?)的電話,但真正的電話似乎藏在暗角處 ... 這個電話撥得通嗎? 此店不像其他分店般,只有煎釀豆腐、煎釀豆卜和豆腐花供應 ... 點了煎釀豆腐,著實說,我是滿心期待的,嚐一口,心裏不禁:「好似人和好食啲噃 ...」大概一次產量太多,早煎好的已不夠熱了 ... 有點忿忿不平,多點一客煎釀豆卜 ... 即使豆卜不是我喜愛的食物 ... 奇怪地,豆卜反而好吃,連平日不嗜豆卜也想多要一碟 ... 但只是"想"罷了 ... 離開的時候,看見一個小小籃子高高掛,據網友所說,這是一個錢籃 ... 生於1909,不折不扣的百年老店 ...

猶記得,中學時於校外活動中認識了一位對豆腐花有研究的朋友,一幫女孩子也因此經常走訪不同的豆腐店 - 老實說,公和,一直都不受我們的青睞。直到出來社會工作,才認識有人當公和豆腐花是寶;九龍城店卻是滑而欠豆味,聞說深水埗這家做得較好?(雖然中學時走訪的就是此店) 既然今天順道經過,碰巧太公之公又想吃豆腐花,就來試試。星期天,很多人慕名來公和,店內都擠滿了人,督見店旁後巷有兩張桌 - 反正吃豆腐花才一會兒,也沒所謂。要了兩碗凍豆花 - 老實說,一如九龍城店,公和的豆花滑是夠滑了,卻豆味和豆香皆欠奉 - 深水埗店比九龍城店更糟的是,豆腐花還帶點微酸 - 一家客似雲來的店,出品應較新鮮才對,怎還會帶微酸?無論如何,沒有豆香的豆腐花,始終不是太公心水;還是龍城義香的出品,最得我心!

去開深水埗都會食公和的豆腐花, 夠滑和香, 但不夠豆味。 如果喜歡黃豆味, 則要選豆腐或豆卜。 除了豆腐花外, 煎魚肉豆腐和豆卜都好味道。 冬天時會來這裡買煎豆腐、豆卜和豆腐打邊爐, 真是打邊爐之寶!

店內坐滿顧客﹐門口兩位師傅一位忙著賣生豆腐﹐一位忙著讓豆腐兼炸豆腐。令店鋪有很大陣的油煙味道。所以坐在油鑊旁的朋友未免食完之後會發覺全身都是油煙味。因還境跟衛生不太好﹐所以快叫快食快閃。 叫了熱豆腐花+雙拼(豆腐&豆朴)。熱豆腐花 $7 – 如其他食評所說﹐豆腐質地很滑﹐份量亦算足夠。但沒有什麼豆味。雙拼 (豆腐&豆朴) $10 -豆腐跟豆朴兩款都壤了薄薄的魚肉﹐煎豆腐剛剛煎好﹐所以很熱很滑﹐配埋甜豉油味道不錯。豆朴因是油炸﹐吸了不少熱油﹐所以食之前最好壓一壓才放進口。是日下著毛毛雨﹐另本身身處街市內而環境已不太衛生的公和更惡劣。地下全是黑色污水和鋪了霉爛而濕透的紙皮﹐踏落還會滲出污水。 如不是衛生的問題﹐會給笑笑口。

晚上又來到深水埗,約了幾個朋友再戰大牌檔,約了其中一位友人從地鐵站走到小菜王,不經意的途經公和。深水埗的公和是老遠時已經在此,所以也不是一些現在開得成行成市,良莠不齊的Franchise,加上我其實未吃過深水埗店的出品,所以遲了點點也忍不住入內光顧了。來九龍城吃泰菜,也順道來吃一吃這兒的豆腐花。甫坐下立即和友人點了兩碗熱荳花,豆腐花夠熱,而阿姐「筆」豆花的功架也挺好的,若沒有邊邊位的豆花碎會更完美,吃一口也同樣的有沉穩的豆味,但是豆花不算是太滑,但在現今也很難吃得到一碗有豆味的豆腐花了,所以老店果然是老店,和九龍城總店也算是可以比比的。在吃的時候正自嘅嘆豆腐花不夠滑之際,友人突然問我吃過在大埔的阿婆豆腐花沒有,我答沒有,他說那麼我一定要到大埔吃它一吃,聽過後,也心想要找一天掃一掃大埔才成。吃過飯前甜品後急急腳趕赴下一站,小菜王。每人只是十元多兩塊,抵!而且朋友請客,在此也說聲謝謝。

每人只是十元多兩塊,抵!而且朋友請客,在此也說聲謝謝。

行經此處,入來整番碟煎釀豆腐、一碗凍豆腐花同一杯凍豆漿。三樣出品都保持一貫的高水準,而且價錢相宜,一句講晒,可以用「價廉物美」四個字來形容!也是的,用二十塊不到的價錢可以吃到三樣不錯的食品,還可有什麼要苛求呢!雖然這裡的門面裝修簡陋了點,看上去的確顯得陳舊和不太符合現代的衛生標準,不過以一間老字號來說,可能這就是它的懷舊風格和特色呢!

一個兒逛街, 渴了, 本想點豆漿喝可是見那一碗碗的白滑豆腐花經過......忍不住還是要了一碗$7夠冰凍, 而且甜味剛好, 不用另加黃糖口感更是一滑啊~ 吃了它感覺皮膚也會變滑溜一樣再來又點了個雙拼﹝炸豆腐及豆腐卜﹞$10熱辣辣加少少豉油便好好吃了好的店子就是用最普通的食材也能做到最美味

凍豆漿x2清甜無渣,最重要是甜度剛剛好。由於太好味,臨走時忍不住再encore。凍豆腐花一般鋪頭叫既凍豆腐花通常都是一片片,但呢度是完整無暇的一大碗。平時食一碗豆腐花,至少下兩三大匙黃糖,但今天竟然連一小匙都嫌多,因為豆腐花本身已經夠甜了。雙併(豆腐+豆卜)先食豆卜,明明知道這裡是用大量油下煱,但食落又唔覺油膩。很香口,若是下些魚露,讓豆卜索一索,真是人間美食!豆腐在對比下,完全不得我同朋友仔既心。唯一可讚是豆腐頗滑,亦很有豆腐香。

一般鋪頭叫既凍豆腐花通常都是一片片,但呢度是完整無暇的一大碗。
平時食一碗豆腐花,至少下兩三大匙黃糖,但今天竟然連一小匙都嫌多,因為豆腐花本身已經夠甜了。

雙併(豆腐+豆卜)
先食豆卜,明明知道這裡是用大量油下煱,但食落又唔覺油膩。很香口,若是下些魚露,讓豆卜索一索,真是人間美食!
豆腐在對比下,完全不得我同朋友仔既心。唯一可讚是豆腐頗滑,亦很有豆腐香。

Then came a time I finally MUST go in, so there I was, burly of a man walking pass the packed tables getting myself cozied in one of the wooden stools.

公和 is a staple in this area, and what's more fulfilling than having Sweetened "tofu curd" (I realized that's the closest I can get in English, rather than "Tofu-Flower" 豆腐花, as everyone calls it) for a quick snack, or quick dessert? I have never been a fan of the chilled version, as the chilling somehow makes the tofu denser, affecting the soft texture that's valued in here to begin with. So there I was, a HOT one. Served already with syrup added in, I couldn't help myself but adding a small spoonful of powdered "red sugar". The texture was alright through and through but the strong taste of soy milk couldn't hold the candle for those served at 德興隆 in North Point, or To Kwa Wan's now-closed 貴記. The velvety smooth tofu slipped past my tongue and swiftly slid down my throat. Luckily enough it wasn't piping hot.

Other snacks include Pan-fried Stuffed tofu (煎豆腐)and Marinated "fried tofu" (also called 豆卜 -- dou bok). The pan fried kind was neat white squares of tofu with the thinnest smear of minced fish on the top, and fried at the store front, while the latter was tofu cubes fried and stuffed later, and cooked in a soy-sauce based broth. I preferred the pan-fried more with the golden brown crust on the top, the 'dou bok' was more gooey and chewy but lacking in the proper taste of tofu. Soy milk, however, was perfect when chilled, as the sweetness level was mild.

This joint is constantly packed and the floors could be slightly slippery if you're not careful. The shop also sells fried gluten in packs, soy sheets, and marinated tofu cubes in jars -- all products varied from the basic being of SOY BEAN itself. I will consider coming back every now and again if I'm in the neighborhood feeling the craving for a soy quick-fix.
