This restaurant is located on Peel Street, Central, specializing in pizza as its name implies. It did not take booking so we came early in the evening and there were already quite many people seated and enjoying themselves by 6:40pm. Being part of Pirata Group, when the staff asked for my mobile they already can pull out my details from prior visits to their other restaurants, quite a good and smart way to recognize the customers. This restaurant is located on Peel Street, Central, specializing in pizza as its name implies. It did not take booking so we came early in the evening and there were already quite many people seated and enjoying themselves by 6:40pm.
Being part of Pirata Group, when the staff asked for my mobile they already can pull out my details from prior visits to their other restaurants, quite a good and smart way to recognize the customers. The decor is simple yet giving a friendly, neighborhood ambience making us feel at home and comfortable.
The staff recommended us to try the tasting menu ($195 each) and it apparently seems a good deal so we opted for it. Choosing Burrata as our antipasti, the cheese is soft and have a delicate milky taste. Drizzled with some olive oil, salt and black pepper, it was a nice starter together with the cherry tomatoes and rocket, with the sweetness and slight bitterness from the two integrating well together.
Then it was the gnocco fritto, in which we opted for Mortadella. It is a type of fried bread, with a nice bite and a slight crispy surface, with a piece of ham on top, then added a bit of ricotta cheese and sprinkled with pistachio. Simple yet filling, it is another comfort food that I can associate with.
Next we got to choose two pizzas. Yes, it is two whole pizza! The first one we picked was Carbonara. The crust is very good, with a perfect thickness, offering a good crisp rim yet having a solid bite as well. The toppings include pancetta, quail eggs, tomato sauce and fior di latte, a type of semi-soft fresh cheese. The quail egg yolk is runny and is a good mix with the savory bacon, with the melted cheese and tomato sauce giving familiar flavors. A very nice pizza indeed. The size is also quite big and I have to congratulate myself for finishing this one with my wife.
The other pizza is Tonno e Cipolle. Already very full so I can only try out a slice and have to pack the remaining home. With the same great pizza crust and texture, the pizza got nice tuna chunks, red onion, capers, along with tomato sauce and fior di latte. I like the fragrance from the onion and acidity of the capers which brighten and freshen the taste of the tuna too. Another nice pizza.
Wrapping up there is also a dessert to choose, and we opted for Pici Tiramisu. A very nice finale to the meal, the rich chocolate powder on top, followed by a layer of sweet mascarpone cheese and a soggy cake soaked with coffee at the bottom. Though not fancy in appearance or taste, it is another nice example of the type of grandmother creations I can imagine for many Italian people.
Service is good, with the staff courteous and friendly, and the bill was only $435 including a bottle of Acqua Panna water ($45). With no service charge included, do remember to give a generous tip at the end to reward the staff who so diligently and work hard to make our dinner a nice and enjoyable one.
