high amongst them. In the league table of offenses, your typical spaghetti
carbonara lies somewhere between flying balls of flem and renditioned
booksellers.

When treated with a little love and affection, not much can beat a simple plate of
pasta. But, Campbell’s chicken soup does not a carbonara make. Yet, how often
do you see a large bowl of sloppy, beige spaghetti plonked awkwardly in the
middle of a table of four (honestly, how the hell are you supposed to share a
plate of spaghetti carbonara without it turning into a parmesan bukkake party?)

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to label the mistreatment of pasta as a form
of gastronomic cultural appropriation. So, I took it as a good sign that the
Wanchai pasta joint, Pici was not picketed by Southern Europeans holding aloft
signs stating that “carbonara is the black face”, but negroni sipping
Parisians. 

Pici continues Star Street's Sheng Wan'ification of Wan Chai. A self-styled
neighbourhood restaurant, Pici managed to feel both reassuringly inviting and
cosy at the same time. With its exposed brick, convivial atmosphere and a no
booking policy, you could be in a Milanese back alley (or Hollywood
Road for that matter)

So, with good friends, a good first impression and a fairly good glass of Chianti,
my expectations of the food was... well, good. 

Naturally, we started with a plate of ham, bread and burrata. (Word to the wise; if, like
me, you're tired of being overly polite when dividing up sharing plates, dine
with pregnant friends as much as possible and eat good ham and unpasteurised
cheese to your hearts content). They all ticked the right boxes.

As did the meatballs, which was next to arrive. We gobbled our way quickly through
these as it was the pasta we came for. 

We ordered three pasta dishes; Classic Lasagne, Liquid Parmesan Ravioli and a
Pappardelle.

The lasagne was pretty lacklustre. The ubiquity of lasagne dictates that if it
appears on the menu of a restaurant with aspirations beyond Pizza
Express, it had better be bloody good. But, this one was simply ok. 

Next, we tucked into the ravioli. If you can imagine the contents of a steamed custard bun without any flavour, doloped
on thick pasta sheets, you can imagine the experience of eating this dish.
(I’ve since learnt this dish has been removed from the menu).

The pappadelle was much better and just as it should be; meaty, messy and moreish. 

Overall, I describe the food as good home cooking. Not a 'justa a lika mamma used to
make' home cooking, but a 'crack open a jar of tomato bolognaise sauce' type of
home cooking. Pici does achieve it's objective of being a great neighbourhood
restaurant. As such, it's not really worth making a trip for.

Cozy little restaurant with 2 floors, we had the Meatballs, Orecchiette, and Special of the Day - Parpadelle with Venison Ragu. Price is reasonable, pasta is well cooked, venison Ragu could have been more seasoned, but good meal overall. recommend!

Pasta & sauce both好味, 鍾意佢個pasta質感係比較煙韌,分量唔算多,食完唔覺得漏, however pancetta好少, 其實可以落多少少我覺得會好味啲,唔使每一啖都淨係食pasta.


Mains - Pasta of the day - Tagliatelli Carbonara
Same as above - pasta同sauce好味, 唔夠pancetta. 我比較喜歡Tagliatelli Carbonara rather than ravioli Carbonara, 因為本身好鍾意食carbonara sauce所以鍾意佢較多汁.


Dessert - Raspberry Panna Cotta
Very average,比想像中差, 下次唔會再叫.

Beware, not a trust-worthy place. The staff lost my credit card.  The manager was not apologetic. He said "did you enjoy the food, well then, it is worth it." Food was above average, chewy pasta, flavorful sauce. However dining out is an experience. I would not recommend a place where they took your credit card, lost it, denied responsibility, and took no action to fix the situation.

Pasta is so good here. It’s freshly made, and you can taste the fragrant of egg! Portion is good, particularly the starters. Nicely decorated, suitable for lovers, friends, business lunch. Located in a nice quiet alley of a busy district. Love it here.

開始時送上一些麵包,打開餐牌,好似係意大利文,咁我唯有google圖片啦…..沒理由每個餸都問人吧?點了兩個意粉,發覺份量有點少!每人分一點就已經吃完了,所以又叫多一個。
先說說點了什麼,先點了一個Radicchio salad,沒太大驚喜,和平時外面餐廳差不多,但比想像中大碟。

之後分別點了Orecchiette、Ravioli carbonara 和 Strozzapreti with mussels,全都是我最喜歡吃的♥,Orecchiette是貓耳朵意粉(Google大神幫到你),帶點煙韌,和意粉口感不同,也不太咸,幾好食;Ravioli carbonara是意大利雲吞,皮不厚,適中,一口放入口都可以,但我當然慢慢品嚐,因為份量實在太少了……之前有聽聞過這菜味道很咸,今天試過,可以告訴大家可以的,沒有過份的咸。最後是Strozzapreti with mussels青口意粉,粉很粗,像茶記烏冬,當然味道是兩回事。

spaghetti 好好味。可惜永远排长龙。a long long queue.....tiramisu 特别要讚,cream, 酒, texture 等似係意大利食既味道,价钱$50多再加一,平过好多一線歺厅但不知所谓既tiramisu.

對意粉不太熟悉的朋友們可能要查一查字典了,orecchiette是貓耳朵粉,在香港可不太常吃到。這裏的orecchiette配意大利肉腸、Nduja (一種類似莎樂美的意大利辣肉腸)及小蕃茄,材料碎碎的,比較像肉碎醬汁,有點辣,也算不錯。反而個人較愛貓耳粉本身的質感,煙煙韌韌,不是全口粉的感覺,整體OK。

基本上是來pici必點的松露tagliolini,今日要嘗嘗是何方神聖。Tagliolini是細寬麵,比普通意粉稍為扁和寬,這裏的tagliolini蛋香是夠,只嫌煮得軟了一點,沒有"al dente"的感覺。上枱時松露香氣撲鼻,望落黑松露片也是給得大方,不過吃下去又感覺不突出。就算用了紅蔥及白松露醬下去炒,味道也不濃。整體來說,個人較喜歡orecchiette。

每人一碟意粉,很快便清光光。對pici的感覺其實不錯,只是太多人推崇以致期望過高,當普通意粉小店吃也可以,缺點是小區位置較偏。順帶一提,pici菜式選擇不多,只有冷盤、肉丸及意粉,較適合casual隨性吃飯。

We arrive just after 6:30 pm, there's no line but the restaurant is quite full. The wait, is a couple of minutes beforewe are seated at the bar. The kitchen staff meticulously arrange plates of charcuterie while we wait to be served. We ordered the tasting menu: Burrata cheese, Meatballs, Roman Ravioli, Lasagna, parpadelle, tiramisu, panna cotta, 

Word of caution, the tasting menu comes at you in true Italian fashion, lots of food and plenty of satisfaction. The pastas are the highlight and the Lasagna is something that I will crave in the future!

I still find it strange, that even though she had an all-you-can-eat Carbone brunch the day before she still wants to have Pasta. She can't look at the meatballs, and occasionally pops a few morsels of food into her mouth while continuing to push things around her plate. We take a nice long stroll home to let the food settle. Great way to end the weekend!

I'm glad to have tried their Tiramisu which was highly recommended by a friend. I love dessert and have tasted a lot of Tiramisu not only in Hong Kong but in other countries, and I have to say Pici serves the best one so far. The coffee strength, sweetness and the amount of cream is just perfect, with rich flavor. It's definitely a must try! Note they don't take reservations, only walk-in. We ordered the tasting me u which is super great value, 280/ person for 2 starters, 3 pastas and 2 desserts.Starters: Burrata Cheese and Homemade meatballs. They come in a sequence from light to heaviest tasting, and it was like a journey on your palette. Pasta was fresh made, each sauce, though all cream-base, have distinct flavors. Especially recommend Orecchiette. It was like a flavor lightning on my tongue when I had it. SO GOOD!
The dessert was a delight too, I picked the raspberry panna cotta, because honestly the yolks in the tiramisu will kill me... so full but still finished everything!

Lastly I saw our to be trialed past HK chief executive bow-tie Tsang here for dinner, just two tables down. I would say this pici’s pasta definitely cheer you up, that’s probably why he’s here 😼

P.s our server was so cute!

The daily homemade pasta is amazingly fresh and delicious. The Parma Ham for appetizer is also very fresh. I believe it’s sliced after our order. Not greasy and pretty lean too. For dessert, we tried Tiramisu: creamy and sweetness was just right. Very good. 太好味了!

The portions were pretty big and the parma ham is of really good quality😍

And with the waitress' recommendations, we ordered their infamous Tagliolini w/ Shallot, White Truffle Paste & Fresh Shaved Black Truffle and Orrechiette. Both were REALLY GOOD.

They tasted really good, even better than the ones I had in Italy tbh. And the portions were HUGE!

Also I heard from my friends that their lunch deals are great too so I'm definitely going back soon to try the other dishes on the menu
