Interesting to try the concept: single dish for everyone.

Come with the bread and salad, 
Bread: Hard and cold, totally unappetizing
Salad: Merely a house salad, dressing is not enought, veggie is not fresh enough

Main dish: Steak with french fries
Steak: Good! Quite juicy and soft. The secret sauce is just the mushroom sauce...no surprise at all!
French Fries: OK! Look like McDonald one, but the taste is great! Saw they keep the fries warm with a heater and so it tastes fresh! Taste is good even without tomato sauce
But...who want McD fries if you pay $258 =.=

先來3件法國麵包和牛油,小女子頗喜愛這個麵包外邊脆,內裡「煙韌」,上菜時麵包仍暖暖的(這個很重要!),如果加上芝士和曬乾蕃茄,小女子應該可當作一餐了,不過牛油味道則沒有特別。

核桃沙律很清新,其實只要菜新鮮,沙律應該不會太難吃,沙律醬味道都幾特別,我食到有醋、芥辣、麻醬(如有錯歡迎更正)的味道,醬汁使整盤沙律十分醒胃,但份量略嫌太多。

上牛扒之前,同事放了個有小蠟燭的金屬架,為了持續暖著牛扒,我覺得可以加分的。因為很多時候,那麼大份的牛扒,食到最後已變涼,也會變質,有小蠟燭暖著便可確保食到最後一件牛扒都是暖的,在食的時候順道欣賞小蠟燭溫著牛扒,牛扒還發出被煎的那種滋滋聲,感覺有趣。 要挑剔的話就是熱度不能調節,若食得慢又不翻翻它們的話,小蠟燭有機會把盤上牛扒煎得一邊老掉甚至慢慢煮熟。

小女子是茹毛飲血的牛魔王,牛扒自然要medium rare,本人頗憂慮各餐廳每個大廚手勢不一,若然「重手」了會過熟變相浪費了那塊肉,幸好Joseph和餐廳廚房沒有令我失望,看見每件切開了的牛扒都是紅紅的令人欣喜。Joseph先放3件牛扒到我的碟上,再留下其餘的牛扒和特製醬汁在金屬盤上由小蠟燭暖著。我覺得牛扒本身已有些調味,所以不用蘸醬經已很好吃。牛扒外邊就煎過都不會太硬,內裡更不用說肉質何其細嫩(部份原因可能是本人要求了medium rare),可恨午飯時間甚短令小女子未能每口細嚐,如果是晚飯的話定能更加享受。特製醬汁使我在整頓飯的時間不斷在估有甚麼材料,我暫時估到有芝士、菇菌類和忌廉(同樣地,如有錯歡迎更正),將牛扒蘸少醬汁,會有另一種味道,難說是更好味,只是不同味道而已。

至於薯條,粗幼度其實跟M記差不多,但至少你不會食到不新鮮或軟巴巴的薯條。我事前已知道可以無限添加,但Joseph給我的第一輪份量薯條甚多,差不多佔據了半個主食碟,鯨吞完份10oz牛扒再食一大盤薯條其實已經差不多十分飽。將薯條食到剩下2成的時候,Joseph拿著一盤新炸好的薯條熱情的走過來,我本來都拒絕再添薯條,畢竟我是個惜食者,開始飽之餘眼前的薯條還剩下一些,不過Joseph一邊夾起新薯條一邊游說小女子。盛情難卻下添了一些,而新炸好薯條味道的確比之前放涼了的薯條(因為之前專注食牛扒)更好味,簡直欲罷不能,所以到最後只剩下小許薯條便再也吃不下了(內疚中)。
然而我有預留位置給我最愛的甜品,當天有2款甜品,一款是紅莓口味,而我就選擇了朱古力慕絲香蕉蛋糕,雖然細細件但內裡結實。它屬於濕蛋糕,近乎英式pudding那種質感。有香蕉氣味,但不見平時那種香蕉蛋糕的一絲絲黑色。味道偏甜,幸有旁邊的紅莓、藍莓和甜度甚輕的忌廉中和一下,都尚算滿意。

以這次進餐的經驗,整體來說,餐廳的環境、食物、服務我都很滿意的,謝謝Restaurant Week,謝謝Joseph和餐廳各同事的招待。以中環SOHO來說,若是以正價每人HK258+10%s.c. 能食到這樣質素的牛扒餐(加無限薯條)是很值得。

我會再來的(如果時間許可你們又有位的話)。
題外話/補充資料: 我是臨走時才問餐廳經理Joseph 的名字,謝謝你見我一個人所以陪我談了一會,又不時過來做quality check,哈哈!

I was looking for a new place to try for lunch and had heard about this place, steak and all you can eat frites, only $258 for dinner. I thought there would be a lunch special as with most places around. However the price/food was the same as dinner, but you get dessert for free during lunch.

There were plenty of tables available so we weren't too close to anyone else but if you are a party of 2, the next table is literally about an inch away. If you are a party of 4 you are ok.

The food started with a pretty standard baguette and butter. This was followed by a dinner plate sized portion of salad. Overall the salad was average, the ingredients seemed fresh, walnuts were a nice addition but the dressing was not particularly flavorful.

Then came the entrecote steak. Both our steaks were served on the same platter though we had ordered different doneness. The steak was thinner than I expected and already pre cut into slices. The server put a few pieces in our plate and left the rest on the metal platter with a tea light underneath it to keep it warm. This is a clever idea but I think 1 tea light wasn't really enough to keep both our steaks warm. Then the server came by with a huge basket of thin fries and filled up our dinner plate.

I had ordered my steak medium rare, which in Hong Kong usually means medium but here it was actually quite rare. My companion's medium was done just right. The meat had a nice enough flavor on its own, but was much better with the excellent bearnaise sauce. Herbs make the difference and they chef had picked the right ones. The fries were crisp but lacking in flavor. I tried adding a bit of salt & black pepper and that turned them into the perfect compliment to the steak. As I took more steak off the tray I also asked for a second helping of fries. The second batch tasted the same as the first, definitely lacking in salt.

There was a choice of two desserts and my companion & I tried one each. My brownie was very good, a large portion with a crunchy crust and soft centre. My companion was surprised by a dessert we had never had before Clafoutis. It was cherries suspended in a custard batter, harder than a flan, softer than a muffin. My companion absolutely loved it.

A note about the service. Our main female server and the french manager were both very nice. However a male server with tattoos had a serious attitude.

In conclusion, this restaurant provides excellent value for dinner and I will definitely return. Elsewhere a meal like this would easily cost over four hundred dollars for dinner. As a lunch though its a bit pricey considering most lunch sets in the area are well under $200.

尋日去左中環La Vache! 同舊同學食晚飯。之前同大學舊同學食過,無論食物、氣氛同服務都唔錯,咁就諗住同另一班同學去多次。訂左7位,8:30, 8:10到都一定要8:30先交枱。牛排甜品好食,薯條鹹左啲,麪包同牛油硬左啲,沙律普通。

題外話/補充資料: 唔知係之前黎服務太好定今次太差,個哥哥仔冇禮貌、冇笑容、冇介紹菜單不特只,上錯菜、漏單、踢到我都冇道歉。一坐低,立即響我將枱面寫上"10:00",我知我應承左10:00交枱,但係哥仔,你唔係啞㗎?同我地交待聲係唔係會死㗎?之後就問你食啲乜。哥仔,你間餐廳得牛排呢件事唔係全世界都知㗎,同其他人講下係唔駛死㗎。問我地飲咩,落左單、漏單、唔記得邊個飲咩係你嘅責任黎㗎。牛排黎到,你又唔問下邊個係食幾熟,將我塊月經Rare排俾左第二個,咁你唔好問我食幾熟啦。都算,記性差都算,幾次踢到我同張凳,你冇知覺定你覺得係唔需要道歉嘅呢?上薯條,其實當大部份人仲有頗多薯條時係唔會叫你上薯條㗎,可以嘅話,煩請帶腦返工。

It reminded me of something like the gateway to Hell. However, who could miss the big red Moo? it certainly catches your attention! Me and J arrivedat about 1830 this friday night without a reservation and were prepared to wait for a table, but luckily, we were offered a table immediately under the condition that we leave by 2000.

Me and J arrivedat about 1830 this friday night without a reservation and were prepared to wait for a table, but luckily, we were offered a table immediately under the condition that we leave by 2000. Since the other 2 friends were on their way, we took a chance with the table! While we waited, a very friendly guy offered us some water. 
 Service was still good at this point.

Even the interior was very "red". Red seats, the classic table cloth, red markers etc... The restaurant was quite cute with pictures of everything French on the walls and table. 
 The menu was printed on the cute paper on the table. Dining here is simple. You pay $258 +10% and you get bread, a salad, a 10 oz steak and unlimited fries.

The only thing you need to do is to tell the server how you'd like your steak, then he/she would write it big and clear on the paper on the table! 
 Since I got Medium Well, MW was written on my paper. 2 of us got MR and 2 of us got Medium Rare

Very soon after, the bread and Salad came. The bread was good. However, I would have liked it more if the bread was more warm. We each got 2 slices~ The green salad had radishes, and walnuts with a simple vinaigrette. I liked that it was fresh and light.

I'm not sure if they were afraid that we wouldn't leave before 2000, because it felt like they were rushing our orders out. The arrival of our  Steak & Fries, was also when the service started to go downhill. All our orders were correct except for M's, so we mentioned to a middle aged female server that M's steak didn't quite look MR, then she asked if M had got MR or MW even though this server herself had written the order down on the table. After saying MR, she rudely and annoyingly took away the dish. 
 That is no way to treat customers. 
 Very soon though, the correct order came and the chef came over to apologize for the mistake and made sure we were all enjoying out steaks. 
 If only all staff had this positive attitude.

As you can see in the picutre above, the slice on the left was supposed to be M's MR steak and the slice on the right was G's MR steak that we put there for comparison. M's steak was obviously overcooked and was not MR. I tried one piece of M's MR steak and it was amazing! The meat was very tender and melted away in my mouth. 
 It made me regret ordering MW, although my MW steak was very good too. I liked the steak without the Béarnaise sauce. Not that the sauce wasn't good, but it overpowered the taste of the beef. I'm not one to have steak all the time, but this steak really did win my heart. As a matter of fact, I have never had fries this tasty as well! 
 The fries were fresh and had some kind of steak seasoning on them, which made them very very tasty. I couldn't help but to finish them quickly so that I could have more.

It took a while for the second helping of fries to come by although I had asked another female server for some more. She just smiled and went back chatting with the other servers. 
 I normally wouldn't have mind, but since it was getting closer to 2000, I didn't have much time left to wait. Also, at about 15 minutes to 2000, the server took away our water bottle and never brought it back. Obviously they were trying to get us to leave. 
 Although everything was delicious, everything was actually very salty, so we needed the water. With no water and time, we only got to see the dessert cart, but didn't get to try anything. 

Final Verdict:
The food was amazing and the price was also very reaonable. I would love to come again for the food, but I felt disrespected by the service provided by some of the servers. If it weren't for the friendly guy who brought us the water at the beginning and the chef who took the time to do a follow up, I would not think about coming back. I will still give the place a smiley face because of the food and servers who had a positive attitude.

等了一會,主角終於登場了。牛扒端上時已是切開一件件,看到內裡呈粉紅色的medium rare生熟度。
放進口裡,豐腴而充滿肉汁,讓人感覺滿足。
配菜薯條也相當不錯,不用點醬汁也可以輕鬆的把碟上的全吃掉。

Salad following bread came first, the homemade salad dressing tasted special, and the crunchy walnut added more flavor to it, portion of the salad was much more than satisfaction.

Finally came the steak and unlimited fries!! it was such a simple but considerate idea to serve the steak on a plate heated by a little candle underneath! Waiter would serve one third of the steak for you first and leave the rest on the plate to keep the warmth. The steak was sooooo juicy and tender, in a perfect way, we ordered medium rare, by the way. The flavor was so strong in a original way. This could be one of the best steak I've had in HK so far. The Bearnaise source aside was icing on the cake! I even tried fires with this bearnaise soure. Speaking of fries, it was crispy and hot, which made me can't stop!! And the "evil" provision of unlimited fries made me so guilty but also in a great happiness!

We were both so full after the steak and two rounds of fries, but how could we miss the dessert here! The trolley was unfortunately broken on that day, but luckily, I got the last piece of chestnut and my boyfriend chose chocolate brownie. The size of the dessert was decent with decoration of cream and fruits, though it was a bit too sweet, the whole set at such price was really super worthy of trying.

隨牛扒還有一款mushroom cream sauce,個人愛食原味,但亦一試,只覺味濃了點,會蓋過肉味,反而用來伴薯條食不錯。
這裏的薯條就是冒着爆瘡生飛滋也要refill,外脆內軟,簡單的加點Black pepper已很好吃!
最後是甜品時間,但已十一成飽~ 雖然見到餐車上的甜品sample很精緻美味,還是留待下一次吧!

因無訂位,所以只有一個半小時的用餐時間。 事實是不需個半小時已經食完,除因為侍應很有效率之餘,牛扒同薯條也要趁熱食才美味。
題外話/補充資料: $258+10% 包麵包,沙律及牛扒及任食薯條, 抵食!

This concept uses to be very popular in France and i was very intrigued to try it out.

The result is very disapointing:

- Service: they asked us to wait outside until everybody has arrived. Problem is we were a group of 30 people coming for a surprise birthday and only the birthday person was not there yet.... We finally managed to get the tables after promising to pay for this "missing" person.

- Food: the concept is based on a single dish for everybody. Salad, meat, french fries and a unique sauce. The special sauce is what makes this concept unique in France. But it seems that at La Vache they forgot that. What to say about the fries apart that even Mc Donald will not accept such a quality. For the price of the meal, i would have expected at least some homemade fries (which is proposes in the concept in france).
The meat was okay but it seems that some people in our group got few hard pieces.

- Wines: the selection is very limited and poor. We tried every wines from the list and none of them could really match our expectations of a good matching with a steak. Please avoid their house wine which comes from Lebanon !

- Bravo: to the nice dessert trolley which is proposed (for a supplement) by a chinese chef speaking in French.

Overall this is a place that you probably try once but i really doubt people will ever come back a second time.

I ordered a pastis that was quite pleasant whereas my gf ordered a house martini which was drinkable but nothing more.
After being shown to our table, our salad which came 15 minutes later was merely a house salad.
Then came the ribeye and the french fries. The meat came with a¨secret¨sauce which was basically a bearnaise sauce in disguise. I tried the meat without sauce to test its quality and though tender, was tasteless. 
The french fries were definitely from the same factory that produces those served in that big chain fast food restaurant we all love so much. Really? For our buck, you couldn't even give us homemade fries?
This restaurant is a copy of a famous chain restaurant that I used to go in France but it's definitely a poor imitation.
Frankly, unless I want to fill up on French fries that are tremendously reminiscent of those I can buy for a few bucks at MacDonald’s, I am not rushing to go back.

輪流下了單之後,先來一人一碟沙律。新鮮的雜菜配上核桃,味道簡單得來非常清爽。果仁的香氣加上醋的酸味, 非常開胃! 份量不是太多, 可惜不可以refill呢。事關小妹吃掉10oz牛扒之後其實蠻想吃點沙律清清口腔。下次可能要自行留一點「送」牛扒比較開心。

在等待牛扒的時間也可以先行吃點澱粉質: 長法包。不過當晚我們六人對此都興趣缺缺。一位朋友嚐試吃的時候還發現麵包極韌, 用手都扯不斷! 用牙咬嘛... 還是算了。

牛扒來的時候店員會拿出一個鐵架, 下面放了蠟燭。原理是以蠟燭的熱力烘著放牛扒的不銹鋼碟子, 有助牛扒保持溫度, 吃起上來就不必趕頭趕命了。不過留意牛扒要放在不銹鋼碟靠邊邊的位置就可以了, 不要放中間呢。別小看蠟燭的能力, 碟子中間(下面就是蠟燭)的溫度好高。吃到最尾的時候, 小妹把牛扒放到中間, 牛扒可是被燙得滋滋作響! (我是有一點手多...啦...一點點而已!)

店員會幫客人把約一半份量的牛扒挾到用餐的碟子上, 然後在旁邊堆上薯條。她們會很留意食客的速度, 不時就會走過來為你添上更多的薯條! 雖然是幼身的, 但不會炸得很乾, 沾起醬來非常的好吃。不知不覺就會吃好多!

今次吃牛扒我挑了Rare。牛嘛, 還是帶多一點生比較好吃。牛排內部呈亮紅色, 邊邊則是粉紅, 沒有血水, 非常對版。肉質非常柔嫩, 咬下有肉汁, 讓我欲罷不能! 反而覺得沾上濃香的Béarnaise sauce醬汁會搶去牛本身的味道, 我主要還是用一點點黑椒粉或芥末醬去配襯。蛋黃醬嘛, 沾薯條就最正點了。10oz 牛扒輕鬆K.O.!

只吃牛扒薯條當然寡, La Vache!的甜品環節也是不應該錯過的。Pastry chef Pierre會親自把甜品車推出來讓大家挑選。款式很多, 大約都有10款上下吧, 真的看得眼花撩亂。若果真的太苦惱不知道怎樣挑選好, 也可以請大廚一一為你介紹。

好好味的dessert, 有很豐富的果仁榛子香! 除了cream, puff 里面還有榛子片呢? 貪心的我覺得如果可以再些榛子會更好食啊。它的cream 一點都唔膩, 軟而滑, 推薦! 總覺得puff 系甜品是非常難切成一份份。用力過度puff 就會壓扁變形! 真想看看大廚表演切開這個paris brest 啊... (喂, 重點是不是放錯了啊?)

雖然長得醜不過其實味道還不錯。把大量新鮮藍莓放入餡餅焗,很難漂亮起來。本以為是雜果批那般脆脆的, 但它的口感類似麵包布甸綿軟滑溜。但味道更加清新:當然啦,每口都是大量的藍莓!

法式婚禮上很常見的一道甜點。包一個個圓滾滾的puff以糖漿作粘合砌小山狀,看到都覺甜美! 不過味道…小許失望。可能是糖漿太硬太甜,啪啦啪啦地咬得牙很累。可遠觀而不可褻玩焉。

The dessert is separate from the main meal - the chef walks around with a moveable tower of desserts and you can select some. I can't remember what dessert I had - I think a French variant of Apfelstrudel and some kind of tarte tatin was involved. They were very tasty. The restaurant also serves a selection of good wines.

The restaurant is laid out with small rectangular tables and it was quite dark, with drawings of Paris on the walls. It's comfortable, although a bit loud.

The meal with dessert came to $400 without drinks. That's a little bit stiff but it's hard to get good steak in HK so I think it's reasonably worth it.

A green salad with walnuts arrived. While the salad was only meant as a precursor to the steak frites, it completely wowed us, as the salad leaves were startlingly fresh, and the sprinkling of walnuts and the dressing hit all the right notes - it was definintely the most satisfying salad I have had recently.

Our steaks were sliced up and presented on a silver platter placed over a small burner. The USDA trimmed entrecôte steak was pleasantly tender and pink middled, but I wished its outer layer was crispier and more charred. The housemade béarnaise sauce, prepared with La Vache's secret recipe, was a delightful concoction of flavours, and a tart note gave it more kick than the usual béarnaise sauces.

You keep walking up Peel Street, towards the direction of Soho and before you know it- you'll hit a bright giant red neon cow sign. And you would have hit La Vache. Green Salad w/ thinly sliced radish, walnuts and a light mustard vinaigrette olive oil dressing! Your standard greens! And you'll be surprised how big the salad is. It's practically the size of an entree salad.

Here comes the MEAT! Your steak, a gorgeous stunning cut of rib-eye, mine was done Medium Rare, its already pre-sliced in the kitchen. The super friendly staff first serves a third of the meat, keeping the rest of the steak in the centre of the table, above a tealight candle to keep the rib-eye warm. The rib-eye is then drenched (by you) in La Vache’s secret recipe béarnaise sauce- whats inside??? It's egg, red and black capers, along with mayonnaise! The ribe eye is perfectly cooked, a nice fatty marbling, flavourful, tender, and hearty!

Then comes the Steak Frites!!! Thin, deliciously crispy french fries– some to accompany the first serving of steak and a hot fresh batch served after. ENDLESS FRIES! Thin, crispy, hot perfection!!! Dipped in ketchup..OMG. This is definitely a SPLURGE meal.
Chocolate Mousse Cake

We looked at the dessert cart...and I went with the Chocolate Mousse Cake!! I was surprised at how delicious this big heavenly piece of moist chocolate cake was! It was incredible. Every bite was decadent and trouble. Mmmmmmm
I do have to say, the first time I ate at La Vache was better- but perhaps it was cause we were non-stop chattering that our rib-eye and fries started getting cold! But overall, if you haven't tried it. Definitely go!!
