Sataurday, I decided to try this R&B Research and Bakery. It's not hard to find this restaurant since it's just closed to the St. Andrew Church HK. My sister and I took a lift to 3/F, many people were waiting. We wrote down our name and waited for about 45 mins to get the table. No reservation could be made by phone. We had ordered the cheezy corn, burger with avacado, 2 icecube+milk, creme french toast and caramel parfait. 1) 2 Icecube+milk (Not too sweet, creative and lovely drink)2) Cheezy Co

At the end, I enjoyed my lunch however waiting for a table was a harsh thing. Also, the restaurant wasn't that big but nice decoration. Look around, I realized that all female waitress and no waitor. I will go there again to get the Icecube drink someday. No matter what time you go to this restaurant, always many people are waiting. So, good luck. Below have some interior pictures. * They have some alcohol drinks but I am a non-alcohol drinker thus I didn't order.

I love its environment. The view is green and natural and its interior design is back-to-school feel. It awake my memory when I studied or had great gathering wif my friends in ex-restaurant - McDonald...Try to come and relax if you love "GREEN" too~

Recalling my vivid memory from a few years ago, it wasn't a pleasant visit at applegreen in Grand century plaza due to the staff's bad attitude and the food qualities weren't up to standard.
However, I heard from my friends that applegreen has opened a new casual restaurant named R&B recently and the food qualities were much better than applegreen. So I decided to try out later.
Firstly, I would like to give you some background information about this place, R&B means ‘research and bakery', it mainly focused on fresh bakery and kitchen creativity. At R&B, all of the food were made from natural ingredients.
Secondly, R&B was located on the third floor in a commercial building at Tsim sha Tsui, if you knew the location of applegreen, it would be much easier to find because R&B was in the same building as applegreen and just one level above it.
When I stepped out of the lift, there was a big black and white flashy logo "R&B" in front of us,
you just need to walk up a few steps and turn left, you will see a spacious casual dining area with just a few chairs and tables lining up where there were lots of rooms in between. Also, there was a open kitchen in front of the dining area as well.
Finally, here came the menu, it was just a one size page but it basically covered a variety of food from 'farm-to-table' californian cuisine such as burgers, steaks, salads and seafood.
We finally made up our mind to order a bit of everything. Firstly, we ordered the 'Clams Dynamite' as our appetizer, this came with eight pieces and on top of each clams, mozerella cheese and garlic oil had been added. Firstly, I found that the clams were juicy and chewy without the seasoning. In addition, they mixed with the mozerella cheese, mayonnaise and some garlic oil and put in the oven for baking. The results turned to be quite different, the colour turns to be slightly golden brown on the surface, very soft, creamy and moist texture on the inside. However, it would be perfect if it was served in a hot temperature not just a warm one.
Secondly, I loved having egg benedict so much, so I insisted my friend to order the Buttermilk fried chicken benedict. Unlike most of the egg benedict that I had so far, the egg benedict usually came with salmon or ham. However, this time it came with fried chicken which I found was quite different. The texture of the fried chicken was tender, juicy and moist yet the egg benedict wasn't much runny style enough and couldn't find a hint of hollandaise sauce either. Also, they have used their homemade biscuit as their sandwiches, the texture and thickness were so similar as scallion scones, crispy and slightly dense on the outside, moist and buttery on the inside .
Since my friend loved steak so much, this time was her turn to order steak frites. This time, boneless short ribs were chosen as part of the steak and cut into 5-6 pieces when it was served. In addtion, slow cooking method was used in one of the cooking techniques, as a result, the meat texture was so tender, chewy and moist though slightly a bit dry and lack of flavouring itself. As for side dish, it came with thin and long cut french fries and a small plate of garlic avoli. The fries were quite crispy on the exterior, not fluffy enough on the interior and a bit too oily. However, personally prefer to have potato wedges.
I started feeling quite thirsty while I was in the middle of the meal, so I decided to order something to drink. When I looked at the beverages, the choices of selecting "R&B favourites" were quite attracted to me such as "Homemade soda pop". "Hot orange chocolate" and "Ice cube + milk". Finally I decided to order the "Ice cube +milk" which you have two choices available to choose for this drink: chocolate or coffee. So I chose chocolate. This drink came with two bottles separately in a small tray and a small plate with some orange peel.
Also, put the orange peel and peppermint leaves together as well. Secondly, stirred the bottle that had chocolate ice cubes in it. As a result, chunks of chocolate cubes gradually melting slowly. As you might know, peppermint produced both flavours of bitterness and freshness itself which orange peel had both sweet and sour flavours. Therefore, both of the garnishes balanced out the richness and bitterness of chocolate ice cubes.
Finally, we never finish our meal without dessert since we loved dessert so much. However, we were having difficulties in choosing one of the desserts because all of them sound so tempting. At last we made up our mind ordering the cheezy peanut butter pie.
It comprised of four layers in total; white thick marshmellows were on the top layer, follow by chocolate truffle on the second layer, peanut butter was on the middle layer and finish off as a cookie pastry. The texture started off with a creamy, moist and slightly sweet layer with marshmellows and chocolate truffle, once it reached to peanut butter layer, the distinct smell of peanut butter has became richer. Also, the pie was moist, fluffy and very dense. In addition, the dense of the pie remained very constant when it reached to the very bottom of it .
Overall, in terms of food and ambience, the food qualities in general were quite good and some of the food presentation was quite creative yet some of them still needed some improvement. As for ambience, it's good to have a spacious dining area where you can sit back and relax your meal with a group of friends.

However, one of the staff misunderstood the difference between "Manhattan clams chowder " and "clams dynamite" which is on the menu in the seafood column when we ordered it. So we have to verify in which one we were going to order to avoid misunderstanding. Therefore, I thought staff training was necessary in this case.
My sister learnt about this place in a magazine. I had to think of a restaurant to dine at with my 4 buddies and this popped up. We were greeted and seated immediately by a very friendly server. The interior was warehosue like, and was very spacious. They obviously could have fit more tables in. Hygiene was good from all that I could tell. I really liked the service at R & B. I really liked the service at R & B. The servers were friendly, passionate and informative. I was feeling service from the heart. I think the server overheard us talking about beer so she invited us over to the counter to have a look at their choices, and explained to us the characteristic of each. Then, when we changed our minds and decided to have the Iced coffee/choclate, they also kindly explained to us the way of having it. Service was prompt and the staff were always ready to help. I think they deserve a compliment.
There were 5 of us eating, and since their menu wasn't too big, we got ot try a fair amount of their dishes. Here is what we got: Chicken Nuggets ($58) These aren't your typcial looking nuggets, but as long as they're tasty what does it matter. These salt & pepper chicken bites were not greasy, light and impossible to stop eating. The sauce on the side was interesting, because I think it had some sort of cheese in it that gave it a little barnyardy taste.
Roasted Beet Salad ($58) It is so rare to find quinoa on the menu in Hong Kong, so I was excited to try this salad, which turned out to be pretty good. The mozzarella was fresh, and the beets were sweet. The beets reminded me of the pickled beets my grandma used to make. The menu said that yuzu honey is used in the salad, but I honestly didn't taste the yuzu, but the honey no doubt made this a very very sweet salad.
Caramalized Cauliflower ($58) This cauliflower is caramalized with shallots and cane sugar. A bit pricey for a quarter of a cauliflower or not even for $58. Seeing that there were some crumbs sprinkled on top of the cauliflower, I thought that it'd be crunchy, but it wasn't. Ha. The taste was okay, but the cane sugar made it very sweet.
Potato Brick ($45) This brick is built by layers of thinly sliced potatoes. On top is cheese and cream infused with truffles, making it earthy and flavourful. This was quite good.
Homemade Soda (Ginger Lemon) ($33) There were 2 flavours available: Ginger Lemon or Hibicus. This soda was served in a cool bottle. This drink was fresh, crisp, and refreshing, with a rather heavy ginger taste which was nicely balanced with the acidity of the lemon.
Ice Cube + Milk (Chocolate/ Coffee) ($42) This drink also had 2 flavors availabe: Chocolate or Coffee. The concept of this drink is rather interesting. In the first cup, you either get chocolate or coffee ice cubes depending on what you ordered. Then, you get warm milk in the second one so that the ice cubes get melted when you pour the milk in. I thought that it was a rather fun drink. For coffee, you get syrup on the side, and as for chocolae, you get mint and orange rinds.
My coffee drink was just like any other Iced Coffee, it was strong, and not bad. The chocolate drink was quite rich, and not bad as well. One friend added mint in hers, but we couldn't taste the difference. My other friend added the orange rinds in hers, and there was a huge difference. I've always disliked fruit with chocolate, but orange and chocolate do work well in a way.
Double Cheeseburger ($112) I'm not quite sure why this was called a double cheeseburger because nothing was doubled? Haha. This burger was my favourite thing of this meal. Not only was the burger large in size, it was also huge in flavours; the angus beef patty was very juicy, and not greasy. The onions were served on the side, so that you could add them to your liking. The fries on the side were so so thin. They were so small that I couldn't feel them in my mouth. Ha! They fries got soft from sitting I think, but they were still good. The homemade ketchup was good too. The server offered to cut it into 4 for us when we ordered, how nice.
Buttermilk Fried Chicken Benedict ($92) This was the item that got me interested in the restaurant. I love fried chicken and biscuits so I enjoyed this. The chicken was fried nicely and remained juicy. I saw that the biscuits had chives in them, but I couldn't taste them. Anyways, the biscuit was good, and because it was dry, the runny egg yolk helped. For some reason, i have 0 memory about the buffalo hollandaise sauce, so I'm sorry that I can't comment on it. This wasn't bad, but I think I prefer fried chicken on biscuits with gravy more.
Steak Frites ($169) This short rib steak was cooked "medium". The meat was quite chewy, but a bit tough. The fries were the same as the ones that came with the burger. These fries were better because they were more hot and crispy. The garlic aioli on the side was very hard and was like more like garlic butter that didn't have much taste. I probably wouldn't get this dish again.
Overall, the portions were quite small, and I could have ate more. To finish off the meal, we were given these Chocolate coated Peanuts for free. They were okay; orange was infused in the chocolate again.
