We are not surprised that we have to wait. What leaves us a good first impression is that they are able to tell you the exact time to return for your table. For us, 1.5 hours. We took a nice little walk around Causeway Bay. Table is assigned to us as said 1.5 hours later. We are led to the lovely bar area to wait for a while longer. Menus are offered.
Decoration is warm and cozy. Mainly in wood. And of course, in HK style (HK was once a fishing port, I believe they applied that concept to their internal design)
Food was served a little slow. Understandable, with that amount of customers. First to serve: Crab & Avocado Bruschetta Presentation is nothing to be worried about. Taste of mint is too overwhelming. Crab is okay (there was apple in it? not too sure). Not a remarkable dish (because I already forgot the taste of it at the end of the meal, which is definitely not my usual practice towards a yum one) However, their service makes up for the loss in taste. They provide us a larger knife and explain what it is for (the sourdough could be a bit hard to cut into parts)
I enjoyed the Pumpkin Panzerotti very much! First off with hint of sweetness (pumpkin). Creaminess by rosemary butter. The most interesting part: Amaretti! (almond flavoured cookies) Cookies in pasta? You never know. It has done a great job in adding crunchiness to the dish. You can see creativity of Jamie.
We both had some snacks before Jamie, so we did not order much.
Finish off with a dessert! Lemon pie is a bit too sweet. But still, it did not fail giving the zesty flavour. I d say..wouldn’t hurt to try!

famed for its home made pasta, the taste, texture and al dente were spot on. my problem with one of the pasta dishes was the water weren't drained enough diluting the sauce to become overly watery. the risotto was abit salty to my taste but acceptable. the portion for one on each dish is rather small for any grown man. ending the meal with a lemon meringue pie is definitely the icing on the cake.
jamie's italian hong kong is a old market styled restaurant completed with color tiled walls, the dragon mural and an open kitchen providing a traditional italian amibience. the decor is rustic and down-to-earth, to my opinion, a reflection of jamie's philosophy.
jamie's italian is not a fancy restaurant. service charge is discretionary with mandatory charge on party of 10. it is a friendly place that delivers the heartiness of jamie's food. would i wait over an hour for a table, the answer is no. would i ever go back, the answer is yes. truth be told, jamie's italian will be much better run in with such enthusiasm and professionalism behind the driving force.

seat arrangement is bit strange. tried to involved diff style of seating. some are comfortable sofa seats, and some are just hard wooden chairs. a group of 2 be sitted at a tiny table, not enough space for their dishes another group of 2 be sitted at a table for 6. seems not fair when they are paying same price for service.

I just realized how important it is to have friends who don't need to work in situations like this when you wanna be one of the first batch to try out THE new restaurant in town which virtually needs months in advance booking and walk-in waits take around 1.5 hour on average. Jamie's opens at 12pm for lunch, and my dear buddies arrived at 1145am to get a table first. I was told that there was already a queue formed on the ground floor at that time. Knowing that I won't make it there until 20 past at the earliest, I told them to go ahead to order and surprise me. When I arrived at 1220pm, there was a HUGE crowd of people lining up, and I felt that I must've had alot of hate stares for skipping the queue and heading straight to the escalator. "Hey", *muah muah*, sat down, "how's your trip", yadiyadiyada, ordered my drink, first dish arrived. The polenta chips arrived pretty - and tasted pretty too - served hot and crunchy on the outside with a little bit of chewiness. Topped with rosemary leaves, the dish served well as a prelude to our little weekday girlies catch-up lunch session.
Next came four cans of canned juice. For one sec I thought why I was rushing for 20 min to come and have canned food, and just right before I was about to raise my voice and complain, the waiter quickly explained that those were not for us to eat. Oh, ok. They were actually for holding up the fish and cured meat planks. The taste of the nibbles, however, were not as impressive as they were displayed.
After clearing the nibbles we still had two orders of small pasta which we had been waiting over an hour and a half for. I had to followup with the waiter twice before they arrived at 140pm, 20 to gotta-be-back-at-desk. I quickly had a quickie on the tagliatelle bolognese and squid-ink speghetti before hopping out of the couch to leave. The squid-ink speghetti was done al-dente and the scallop tasted fresh except it was a little bit too salty. The tagliatelle bolognese looked pretty cute (or no?) - like some curled up pig / cow intestines you get from local Chinese joint. Now, this was slightly overcooked and got a little soggy.
Complimentary service charge was not included in the bill, and the total came to $660 for 3 people. I would say this is pretty reasonably priced but quite overrated as usual especially with the huge, crazy line-up's. To be fair I wasn't having very high expectations though having tried a few Jamie restaurants in London. It's just his usual style - simple, casual dining at reasonable price. Not worth the wait though, come back in a few months' time.
Lining upArrived at 11:45am and saw a huge line of hungry eaters (~around 25-30 people ahead of me) outside of Jamie's Italian. At 12 sharp, the line moved an inch. 10 minutes later, mom and I were queuing inside of the entrance of the restaurant. At 12:15, we were finally inside the restaurant, waiting again...This time we were given a clicker which vibrates when our table is ready. Got seated at 12:20. Arrived at 11:45am and saw a huge line of hungry eaters (~around 25-30 people ahead of me) outside of Jamie's Italian. I looked around and there were plenty of empty seats in the restaurant. That frustrated me a little because they could've let more people in, instead of having people wait outside getting dehydrated and dying from the heat. There were enough staff, and there were actually staff who was strolling around doing nothing!
The food
Here's the interesting part. We ordered 2 starters, one pasta, and one seafood stew.
Mom and I tried to split the brushetta by cutting it, but we failed miserably because the bread was incredibly hard. So we used our hands to break it half. First bite was a work out for my teeth because the bread was as hard as rock. I felt the sting of my front teeth when I wasstruggling with my first bite. Note to self, never ever bring my grandparents or people with weak teeth here, at least not for this dish. After a long struggle, I was able to actually taste the bruschetta. The overall taste was fresh and light, however considering the fact that this dish was being served at Jamie's restaurant, I would say it is nothing impressive but mediocre.
I asked the server whether the bread was intended to be that hard and he said yes. So...good luck with not pulling your teeth out. Starter #2: Orange, Fennel salad
Again, nothing impressive. A very simple dish - so simple that anyone with hands couldmake. They tossed the fennel (not very nicely chopped, some pieces are too big), 'beautiful' orange and creamy bocconcini. Orange was nice and sweet. Dish was light and fresh.
The spahettini itself was very fresh as promised. The overall taste was mediocre... I don't know if the crab is fresh or not, but mom says it tastes like it came right from the can.
The seafood stew was alright. There were a handful of salmon and cod, and probably a few pieces of clams and mussels. The tomato sauce was rich, with a kick of spice (which I liked).
There might be foodies out there disagreeing with this review. I might have ordered the wrong food, but I wasn't impressed at all by the food that entered into my belly today. Sorry Jamie, Jamie's Italian didn't live up to the hype
