Finished a wine tasting at JW Marriott, and booked a table at Cafe Gray for dinner. This's my first time having dinner, and previous only came over for drinks. Loving the wine selection and atmosphere of casual interior and great night view of HK.

Food menu has quite a lot choices, prices are up market and I did expect a lot on the quality.

We ordered White wine to start, the Grey Rock Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand is very refreshing, good to act as a "wake-up" drink after a long day work. Followed by Château du Gaby 2004, very nice.


We ordered foie gras and steak tartar for appetizer.
Foie gras has no surprise, not bad. Not sure if it's because of the cold weather outside plus the air-cond, it's colled down upon putting on the table.
Steak tartar is of high quality, nicely chopped and fresh.


Coming to the main course, I chose the daily special, Linguine with mushroom in Chandonnay cream, very creamy, I like this kind of sauce base.
Portion is big enough as a main course.

Another main is the Cod in Weisling, errrrr....wondering if this should be the dessert instead of main course, too sweet indeed. Cod itself is nicely cooked, but the sauce taste really too sweet that cover the taste of the cod.
Maybe the Chef would like to be innovative, but this is too heavy. Also, the portion is rather too small, as it is not really "fine", so it should be a bit larger to be fair.

Dessert, very disappointed.
Chocolate Rum Toast, it has no chocolate taste at all.

Floating Island, is NOT floating. Very limited sauce in a flat plate...totally different from the original idea of this dessert


Service is good and friendly, restaurant managers do care about customer voices. The place is rather too noisy, cannot treat it as a fine dining place, but a casual cafe with up market prices.

It's fine to try once, focus on the wine and view, and don't set too high expectation on the food.

Came here a while ago, randomly, for lunch. Very randomly. First thing I noticed was how pleasantly modern and chic this new hotel is. An outgrowth from Marriott, it certainly suits the younger generation better. Even the concierge and the bellboys were dressed in smart grey suits instead of the conventional, you know. Nice. The bridge to the restaurant could intimidate those who fear heights.Grand entrance to 'high-class seclusion'. I love the design and ambiance. Elegant, subdued, dark, French

Quite unlike what is normally served. The bread wasn't hot enough and a bit too chewy. sourdough with a variety of grains. but the dip was special. I'm not sure if it was purely yoghurt though - if anything it's greek yoghurt. thicker in consistency and much more sour. better than butter i think.

Mine. When it was served I knew I'd picked the wrong item because I smelled coriander. Fresh coriander too. I sliced it open and there was more inside. there was a bunch of bean sprouts inside and only a bit of pulled pork shoulder. The pork shoulder was soft and tender but it wasn't nearly enough. They shouldn't have called it pulled pork shoulder roulade. There wasn't enough of it in the roll to be called a proper ppsr.
Disappointing! The tofu skin was quite crisp though.

Didn't think much of this either. there were only 2 pieces of ravioli, the filling wasn't as fragrant as I'd expected, and was even slightly sour. I did not try the soup as it was infused with a bit of coriander.

This dish was quite pleasant. Duck was nicely roasted, meat juicy without the distinct 'ducky' flavour which I don't like. The cherry sauce complemented the duck well - and the bed of veg soaked up its juices too.

I ordered this dish because it seemed healthy, and I confirmed that the curry wasn't too spicy. It came with a nice steaming bowl of jasmine rice. I highly recommend this. I was disappointed to find coriander garnish (again!) but painstakingly removed each leaf and stalk in order to dig heartily into my mains. The slight delay was well worth it - the veg was grilled first I believe, giving it a firmer body, crispness at the edges, and a stronger flavour. Yumyum. Garlic, butternut squash, pumpkin, chopped peanuts, shallots, carrots, yam...you name it! I spooned some of the curry sauce over the rice and it was lovely and aromatic. I wasn't hungry for meat at all after this mains.

Delectable dessert. Especially fond of the gelato. And the combination is delicious. The pear was slightly warm, and they cubed half of the pear so you could pair it more easily with the gelato - which was smooth and spicy (in a good way - cinnamon?).

Hahaa...didn't expect this to come at all. Chunks of chocolate is really what it is - milk chocolate on the left, dark chocolate on the right. I don't think they were of superior quality. They were acceptable. I would prefer Lindt over these ones. But they concluded our meal nicely - it's customary for me to melt a chocolate or two in my mouth after each meal.

Love the greenery. It's a very relaxing place to hang out for the afternoon, over a cup of hot tea and a slice of cake. and perhaps a random book taken off one of the shelved walls. Would love to come here someday.

Conclusion:
will probably come again for lunch, but not dinner. I think it'd be too expensive.

其實我都覺得我是這衰的常客,但今次又想跟大家分享,亦希望食店會繼續努力,不要不進則退.是晚是為好友慶祝生日,跟她提過這地方不下數次,終於她的密密行程裹放上我的名字.食店亦很體貼地為我們準備一張近窗,飽覽維港夜色的角落位置,令道個慶祝的開塲冇失禮客人.先來Welcome Bread and Sour Cream - 見過冇數次,今次冇再拍照.友人點了Crab Bique $145- 我之前都用過,但總覺那個Crab Salad的portion比從前少了..但味道仍然經典.另點了季節ロ味南瓜湯,一樣出色,內有火腿粒,這次另類選擇.我倆都選擇魚作主菜,portion剛好,賣相保持,但今次兩魚都煮過了火,肉質不夠嫰滑.再來甜品,其實我一向最愛Souffle,但上幾次經驗告訴我,始終太心急,不夠火喉,終極放棄,所以今次選了:Chocolate Rum Toast with Rum Raison Ice Cream - 夠甜,但兩者不夠酒香!Napoleon - 酥皮層次不足,令整件甜品失準再添Capuccino,這晚做得Foamy又滑,畫上完美句號.

預早一日訂枱吃午膳,亦準時到達。位於49樓,踏入電梯已感受到其氣派,兩層樓高的電梯內放置了巨型大玉,超引人入勝。通過可望到十層樓下面的天橋到達餐廳,以竹為設計,最吸引的還是圓型天窗。餐室像英式茶室,座位間距離較近,室內亦較嘈,我們被安排於中間位置。侍應禮貌地遞上餐牌,我們各自點了是日午餐,包括一份頭盤,一份主菜及一份甜品。是的,這裏可選擇有氣或無氣的水,甚有趣。食物亦很快送上,即是10分鐘內。我的是忌廉南瓜香菇,味道很濃。主菜是表咖哩雜菜配小米飯,賣相很美,可還是西方人口味,則是甜而不辣,吃了幾口,已經飽了。友人點的是三文魚扒,用焗的方式,很滑,不像平時煮熟了的三文魚,完全無鯹味。甜品有紅莓pancake,又式是焗都包條,很甜。還送上一碟朱古力。基本上,我都是很享受這裏的氣氛多於食物,尤其洗手間,內可望到中環的景色。

九月中旬‧晴之前三天在澳門,之後五天在上海,在香港二十四小時也沒有,也要來出席這裡的生日派對。收到這裡公關部大員,靚女C的邀請,出席這裡的酒會,原來這間酒店及餐廳也一週年紀念了。酒會設在平台,serve的是VC香檳,在華燈初上的金鐘夜景前,浪漫,有派頭。靚女C來招味,今晚她是主角,當然特別美。談起來,原來我還未在這間餐廳吃過,也相約了遲一點,來試一試。

每個月都有紀念日大餐,只是這個月意義特別一點,眨眼間就是一年了。因為荷包羞澀,平日如吃大餐基本都會選擇午市相對抵食的lunch set,不過TC堅持這天要正日吃一頓浪漫一點的晚餐,就找到了這間提供抵食early bird晚膳的Cafe gray deluxe,每人$295有3 courses。餐包普普通通,但配橄欖油與酸乳酪醬算是別出心裁,好吃也開胃。薄切鯛魚刺身配醃小銀魚:鯛魚刺身其實切得不算很薄身,但魚鮮突出口感又軟滑,被剁成小塊的醃小銀魚則帶點大海的腥咸,風味十足。用上檸檬汁與『心兒裡美』做配料,更平添了爽脆、酸甜交織的口感意大利肉捲配蕃茄蓉:切得極為薄身的青瓜片捲起意大利豬肉餡包成卷狀,肉餡肥瘦相間,肉質鬆身,底層鋪著的蕃茄蓉細膩柔軟,甜得好似落了糖。最欣賞的是青瓜表面鋪了一層烤香的parmesan cheese,令整件肉捲帶點芝香更加惹味。蒸比目魚配椰菜:一向喜歡比目魚,做好了可以相當出彩,算是性價比比較高的魚類。這裡用上蒸的方法,甚至配上兩條椰菜菜葉,做法非常中式。蒸出來的魚肉老實說沒有烤出來的香口,火候也似乎過了一點,嫩身度略欠,但值得一提的是碟底香濃的泡沫魚湯驚為天人,

蒸比目魚配椰菜:一向喜歡比目魚,做好了可以相當出彩,算是性價比比較高的魚類。這裡用上蒸的方法,甚至配上兩條椰菜菜葉,做法非常中式。蒸出來的魚肉老實說沒有烤出來的香口,火候也似乎過了一點,嫩身度略欠,但值得一提的是碟底香濃的泡沫魚湯驚為天人,除了盡收魚之鮮美,更納入清幽的蔥香。面頭的炸物似乎是魷魚,炸功不錯,脆身又不吸油,但清淡的蒸魚配上炸魷魚條卻是有點古怪
烤牛扒配薯仔沙律:牛肉要了七成熟,牛味突出,但肉質過實,咬起來煞是費勁。牛扒的表層鋪了麵包糠,添了幾分酥脆口感。溫熱的薯仔沙律煮得不夠綿軟,薯仔還是呈硬身塊狀。所配醬汁是用芥末、香草與醋煮成,酸辣甜集於一身,吃起來有點怪,但味道不差。

藍莓金寶:蘋果金寶就吃得多,藍莓倒是第一次嘗試,這裡的出品絕對值得一試。Crumbles焗得甜香酥脆,下面藏的藍莓果醬配果肉清爽酸甜,一粒粒的藍莓配上脆脆的餅碎,再淋上半融的雲尼拿雪糕,滿足得說不出話了。
西瓜碎配檸檬雪芭:貪新鮮叫了這個甜品,沒料到卻是西瓜碎配一丟丟的檸檬雪芭,雪芭清爽酸甜十分解滯,可份量太少,西瓜也不甜。沒有再叫一客crumble真是失策!

甜品過後,除了一杯溫暖又香濃的的cappuccino,還附送甜甜的朱古力,中間那片拿破崙薄脆也很好吃。

一年前的這一天,我還在想一年有多麼遙遠,結果也和和美美的度過了。說多也無謂,但願人長久,年年有今日。

這裡的服務很好,服務生也會介紹店裡的signature dishes給我們,頭盤我們分別叫了 Crab Bisque 和 Seared Tiger Prawn Salad。前者是一個蟹肉湯 + 蟹肉沙律,不過這個湯真的非常好喝,很多蟹肉而且味道超濃郁,非常鮮味,真的很不錯。不過它旁邊的蟹肉沙律就覺得麻麻,沒什麼蟹肉而且配一些我也不知是什麼來的植物,咬落爽口,味道幾清新的,但唔係特別好吃。

Seared Tiger Prawn Salad 有很大隻的虎蝦,肉質結實,味道挺新鮮的,絕對好吃。它底下配以小米餅,咬下去淋淋的,加上乳酪醬在底,酸酸的是開胃的前菜呢。

之後就是主菜呢,我們聽從服務生的意見,點了short rib & pork chop,後者說是西班牙黑毛豬來的,兩者也不差啦。short rib 切下去淋淋的,但食落肉質又不是真的很軟熟,但也可以接受的。醬汁有著蕃茄的酸味,亦能保持牛小排的味道,所以也是不錯啦。

西班牙黑毛豬都幾好,不過我喜歡牛小排多D。肉質也算不錯,切開中間有點點見紅,食落又不會太靱,而且幾香肉的味道,都ok的。不過我最不喜歡就是它配的雜豆.... 真的很多,主要是我不太喜歡吃啦,但so far這兩個main courses也滿意的。

吃甜點前奉上了牛奶朱古力和黑朱古力,不過前者實在不敢恭唯,非常非常甜,還是吃黑朱古力好了。

甜品只叫了一款,因為我們之後有生日蛋糕嘛。其實我已經很飽,又要吃蛋糕,所以想叫個無咁漏的,最後選擇了FLOATING ISLAND,我係Conrad食過很好吃的!!! 不過這裡就..... 麻麻地呢。那些berries很酸而且是藥水的味道。蛋白球我之前吃是真的很輕身像吃空氣一般的,這裡的感覺很厚很實,所以麻麻地呢,最好味的還是伴底的雲呢拿蛋黃汁呢,沾了它們就好吃多了。

這裡的切餅費收得不便宜的,不過既然難得來慶祝生日也不計較這麼多啦。店員會很好很醒目的遞上蛋糕而且又幫我們弄得漂漂亮亮的,麻煩他們了。

起初訂檯時店員說 8:45 p.m. 要還檯,不過最後可能有吉檯吧,所以完全沒催促我們,我們坐到晚上才走呢。是晚是快樂的一晚,因為這裡的食物也ok,而且may's cookies既crunch cake真的不錯 (下篇食評再介紹)!! 下次要來吃 early - bird dinner,最後祝朋友生日快樂啦。=)

With my GF there coz all other of my choices were closed on sundays Grey's Cafe was a 'second' choice Called them at 8 pm and made reservation for 8:30 . Sunday night, many tables vacant and when we arrived , we got the sofa with the round table for 4 personsThe manager and his staff made us feel comfortable. As starter I took the Tartare and my GF the mushroom consomme
Tartare portion was just right and the home made 'Pringle' chips were spot-on once you take a bite of the chip and a bite of tartar simultaneously.
Mushroom consomme (soup of the day):
it looked too simple and taste average. Something you would think: i can make this too , with my kettle at home !
Seconds:
I had the baked barramundi with mint-peas mash and fennel.
Fish was cooked really well with a crispy skin on top and the mash was flavored really well and you could still taste the mint. Well Done!!

My GF had the baby lamb
When it arrived at the table, i thought the chef must have suffered from a heat stroke in the kitchen. The layout was poor , even a 6 year old kid having a buffet can lay things better than the chef did. Meat was sliced terribly. The mosterd sauces with peas was a nightmare. It looked and tasted like Heinze mustard mixed with cornstarch and water. The potato slices next to the meat: showed no use-cues that they were created from potatoes. Awful Awful.
Meat was too salty and also difficult to chew on because of some ligaments inside. Maybe this will explain the bad slicing of the piece of meat
So we nagged to the manager and because the second plate took us so long ( 30 mins) we decided not to have it remade in the kitchen and hurried to the dessert part.
I ordered the pineapple soup with ac ookie sandwich served with coconut sorbet
My GF ordered the chocolate fondant with cinnamon ice cream.

verdict: will give it a try at lunch time soon

Both desserts were terrific and the manager waived us the desserts to compensate for the lamb dish

在早前的食評已略略說過大廚的背景,Gray Kunz奉行低碳主義,寧棄飛機貨,也要用本地的新鮮游水貨,為環保一盡綿力.頭盤上有黑松露芝士意大利雲吞,幾塊黑松露薄片在雲吞面上,濃香的松露味得以揮發,本身打到起泡的忌廉汁,與煙齦滑溜的雲吞皮,包著的芝士,濃香且滑的味道一下子豐滿了味蕾,我的頭盤是炸雅支竹.將雅支竹拆成一小片,再沾些粉炸,香脆可口又不失雅支竹的甜味和質感,中間的沙律菜,有助消熱氣.對我來說是一種新鮮事,原來雅支竹是可以這樣做.

主菜是燒盲鰽魚,伴檸檬汁和橄欖油,做得非常不錯,魚皮燒得脆如薄紙,魚肉一早起骨,鮮嫩得來魚味濃郁,沒有一點腥味,清新的檸檬汁,令到魚肉的味道更清新,魚肉下的白豆,同樣好吃.至於我的主菜,是燉小牛面珠伴薯茸和青豆.牛面肉燉得非常稔熟鬆化入味,香滑的薯茸吸收了牛面汁之後,味道更上一層樓,而青豆同煙肉粒的作用,是加強菜式整體的感覺.

吃到入夜,甜品便除除奉上,Panna cotta with strawberry and champagne coupe,是士多啤梨加香檳做出來的布甸,幾者加在一起,味道合拍,如果布甸能夠做得滑一點就更佳.另一道甜品杏仁雪糕,味道濃郁的杏仁味,再配蜜桃撻,此道似乎有點不甚配合了.最後奉上的牛奶和黑朱古力,小食多滋味,中間的焦糖脆片,反而有點點搶風頭之嫌.

一個半小時的早鳥兒晚餐,由天光吃到天黑,鳥瞰下面車水馬龍,對面的海富中心的上班族挑燈夜戰,而我倆在高處享受一頓美味的晚餐,相影成趣.

結帳之後,便前往演藝學院,進行是夜的壓軸節目- 芝加哥.十年前人在倫敦,自己一個去看,十年後今天,有你相伴一起看,那麼十年後呢?

Sunday Brunch, $345+10%., 含前菜, 主菜, 甜品和餐茶. 麵包比較硬, 亦不香. 不似是新鮮出爐, 不塗牛油, 塗以較液態的酸乳酪, 還算特別.前菜是魚子醬和三文魚子炒蛋, 配以香軟而具奶油味麵包. 魚子醬不多, 一粒粒黑色的散落在蛋上. 三文魚子也不算多. 蛋也炒得不算很香, 蛋汁不多. 但這樣味道的配搭給我新鮮的感覺.主菜要了雞, 是小半只小雞. 用檸檬, 黑醋, 蜜糖, 香草等煮成, 味道複雜, 有清新感, 從其醬汁可顯出功夫. 肉不算很滑, 勝在軟, 而挺有燒雞的香味. 配菜是馬鈴薯, 但和一般做法不同, 這裡切成楔形的很薄的片狀, 易於吸收醬汁香味, 但吃下甚覺爽口, 值得一讚. 配菜的露筍有點老.甜品是草莓奶凍, 是一個創新的甜品, 亦是最值得回味的焦點. 甫吃一口, 傳來香檳味, 原來最上層是香檳泡沬. 中層是草莓醬, 酸甜剛適中, 其中有草莓細丁. 最下層是稀奶凍. 個人認為奶味略嫌不足, 奶凍最好稠一點, 但這仍是很美味, 很特別的甜品. 餐後送上巧克力, 不算很甜, 夠硬, 不夠苦澀, 但算是比不少其他餐廳好. 之後是茶啡, 水準一般.我

我坐的是窗口的大沙發, 環境很舒服, 樓底高, 景緻開揚光猛. 餐廳人不算多, 只是鄰桌的孩子較淘氣. 服務方面, 年輕女侍都親切可人, 樂於介紹餐廳的食物. 甚至我抬頭瞥她一眼, 她都以為我想點菜, 馬上走過來. 美中不足是其中一只盛載食物的碟子是凍的.

Six of us dined on last Sunday evening. It's my lady friend's birthday and she made the booking over 3 weeks before 16-May, requesting a table by the window, but only to find out that couldn't be guaranteed. We thought it was quite unreasonable, so she called again to secure a window table or we cancel our original reservation . . . the she got it.
I brought a bottle of Chateau Latour 2001 to celebrate my friend's birthday. I handed it over to a senior staff (presumably, from the way he dressed) and requested it to be decanted as soon as possible. He remarked there will be a corkage of $500 per bottle. I told him I was aware of the charge, and requested if it could be waived if we opened some bottles from her wine list. The answer was : "Well, it depends on what you open"; he handed my wine to a junior waitress, turned his back on me, and walked away . . . OMG . . He never came close to our table again during the rest of the evening!
The young lady then opened my first growth and poured it into a oval shaped glass flask (which most would use to hold water). I remarked that the 'decanter' looked like a water flask, hoping she would treat my wine with a little more respect. She told me there are 3 kinds of decanters in the restaurant to be used for all wines irrespectively. I insisted a change, and finally given a proper decanter. She again never came close to our table for the rest of the evening. Oh well, I couldn't blame her; it's the training she received.
Fortunately, we were looked after by a rather polite and well trained nice young gentlemen named Jacky who managed to entertain us with right dose of attention and rendering a good service throughout, though he also needed a little more training for knowledge on wine.
We ordered a bottle of vintage Champagne, a Chassagne-Montrachet 2005, a half bottle of Sauternes and three bottles of mineral water. I expected the corkage to be waived, and it was done only on request. The spending per head listed below will include two 1st plates and one 2nd plate for everyone, plus four desserts, one coffee and all the beverages.

隔了好一會兒…我們的頭盤才一起上…跟午餐的分別有西洋菜湯…虎蝦沙律和磨菇薯仔蓉配乾蕃茄芝士片…我們大家都是第一次試喝西式的西洋菜湯…西洋菜用攪拌機攪碎了…再加了忌廉來煮…非常濃郁的西洋菜味…很特別~…虎蝦沙律中間的虎蝦很大隻…肉質結實鮮味…下面的是小米餅…配上淺粉紅色的乳酪醬和橄欖油…很開胃的一道前菜…最後的磨菇薯仔蓉…上檯的時候我們都不知道那個黃色的物體是什麼…還以為是玉子豆腐….下面的磨菇煮得很入味…配上味道比較淡的薯仔蓉剛剛好….~

吃過頭盤之後…又等了好一會兒才有主菜吃…五款主菜之中我覺得最好吃的是單點的三文魚扒…三文魚不容易煮得好吃…但這個確實很出色…外面煎得剛剛好熟…裡面就呈六七分熟的狀態…而且帶點油脂…吃起上來滑溜…上面灑上粒粒脆米和蕃茄粒…令到三文魚的口感和味道層次更加豐富…下面再墊著吸收了魚味的薯蓉和豆角小段…確實出色~~

其次我會選咖喱烤雞…雖然在吃西餐的地方吃咖喱雞有點奇怪…不過這個咖喱雞的香料味很重…嫰滑的雞肉配上這個汁…再和飯一起吃…味道又真的很不錯呢….

之後short rib和檸檬魚平分春色…我們對單點的short rib的期望好像過大了…所以當吃起上來未如想像中軟腍就覺得有點失望…那個醬汁就有點像紅酒燴牛尾的味道…帶點蕃茄的酸味…但味道是不錯的了~~另外午餐的那條魚…魚煎得得香…配上牛油和檸檬汁…很夾…不過不好的地方是魚骨太多了…之後我還以為外國人都只會吃沒有骨的魚柳魚扒…就算有骨也會是大大條的…不過自從上一次到過克羅地亞之後…就發現他們也會常吃多骨的魚…也不是不好吃的了…只是有點怕麻煩而已…愛吃魚的其實也會喜歡這道菜呢….

排在最後的是那個雜菜湯鍋….是給素食者以設的選擇…不過確實是毫無特色可言…就像一堆新 鮮的蔬菜放在一鍋高湯裡煮熟….配上一條烤過的牛油多士…成為最不受歡迎的菜式…五個人幾乎都沒有把它吃完…

由於有事要先行離開…所以沒有吃到甜品…不過根據賽後報告所指…甜品部份只是一般…不吃也不會覺得可惜…

這一餐每人將近三百元…部份的菜式很好吃…特別是新鮮的麵包…令人印象難忘…服務的質素也很不錯...很細心...整體來說是合格的了…不過看到之前的食評發覺菜式的款式差別不大...沒什麼驚喜...所以再來的機會就不太大了….

本想將這篇9週月紀念大餐延期推出,但見Openrice又有更新,貪新好奇的我馬上又試試12張照片的upload功能,爽!! 在此再度支持一下OR的不斷更新及進步~  講回正題,一直以為Cafe Gray Deluxe位於JW Marriot,原來地址是隔壁的Upper house才對。而原來這間精品高級酒店也很討好,佈置樸素清雅,又有好聞香薰的氣味,帶來美好第一印象。乘搭特色電梯到達49樓頂層,就來到以多重直線條為藍本、兩旁佈滿蠟燭的餐廳入口,而店內裝演亦不遑入口,簡約中見高貴,細節位如餐具、燭台等亦能與直線條主題相呼應,此外居高眺望中區景致也是一大賣點。餐廳由6點開始供應early-bird dinner($295),正好適合我等愛早開飯人士,而且食物味道也很好: 麵包籃-欣賞盛載麵包的木盤及木碗,還有伴碟帶橄欖油的酸味乳酪醬,其味十分清新可喜;雖然麵包質感較濕而外層頗硬,但為了勁搽乳酪醬,也吃掉了八成! 侍者見狀,又會細意詢問是否要加添麵包,相當細心,不過既要留肚就沒有再添了。 Semolina Gnocchi & Porcinis-頭盤有三款,我選的是款帶有薯香的糰子,伴上芝士片

Semolina Gnocchi & Porcinis-頭盤有三款,我選的是款帶有薯香的糰子,伴上芝士片、菌汁及乾蕃茄食用。首次吃這款糰子是在Chesa,當時很為那粉香又彈牙的感驚艷,這裡的出品卻是稔稔的,質感相差太遠了;然而精髓在於鮮濃又滿有菌香的醬汁,頓時令糰子變得口味豐富起來,很滋味呢! 如拿這醬去煮pasta,一定也是精彩非常!
 
Seared Tiger Prawn Salad-老公選的頭盤,用上巨大多肉的虎蝦,佐以豐富配菜及配料,顏色鮮艷瘋目,味道鮮美又多變,也是一份精彩頭盤,打開了二人的胃口!
 
Roasted Curry Chicken-主菜又是三選一,因近來頗喜歡咖哩菜式,我選的主菜也是咖哩。這裡的咖哩匯聚了多款香料,質地不濃但卻極為香馥;所用的雞腿肉先醃後烤,很入味而且滑身,加上主骨已去,很方便食客享用。主菜配上一碗中東啡米飯,其獨特口感與咖哩汁幾匹配,後來也清得七七八八了~
 
Thyme Roasted Lemon Sole-老公的主菜選了烤原條龍脷,魚烤得很好,皮脆肉很香,所用的香草、檸檬、牛油汁混合起來,清新又美味,要嫌就是原條魚未去骨,吃時少不免有麻煩。伴碟又有不少新薯,薯香滿瀉,正好給我拿去撈咖哩了!!
 
Mango-Passionfruit Crepe-來到甜品時間,是日共有兩款不用煩揀了。原本覺得班戟該是行貨吧,但一切卻能感受廚師誠意:原來班戟皮薄而質地濕潤,外面輕輕塗上+燒製起一層薄脆焦糖層,裡面則內含香甜吉士醬,而非庸俗的忌廉,效果就是外脆內香甜又潤澤,很美味呀!! 所以芒果及熱情果只淪為配角,但其味也甚清新討好的!
 
Banana Split-這裡很擅長燒出輕薄脆的焦糖層,平凡的香蕉加上焦糖層,即時美味加分,而且店方又用上清甜美味的黑莓,以及老公至愛的Rum酒提子雪糕,又是一項滿意之作!
 
餐後照樣要了
Cappuccino
Latte各一,風味都不錯,而且又是直線條的咖啡杯十分精美。最後還有以牛奶朱古力、黑朱古力及薄脆堆成的
petit fours,簡單得來美味,就完成很美滿的一頓。
 
吃畢這頓,覺得這個early bird的offer簡單超值,尤其可以欣嘗景色由光轉藍,再轉暗,感覺真是浪漫又寫意。另外一提女廁的景色亦值得一看,大家不要錯過了! 在此也祝願我與老公餘下1/4年也能開心甜蜜,不要見笑,我已經在期待一週年的紀念了!

Following a long lunch and a few more bottles of wine in the office, I rolled into Café Gray Deluxe for my first dinner here. Gray Kunz's reputation precedes him, and this place marks his return to Hong Kong after along absence.

I was happy about our table arrangement, as the structure of the building created a number of private dining areas each housing a single table. However, the downside was that we sat directly across from the elongated open kitchen, and we were bombarded with the different smells throughout dinner. This was really distracting, and detracted from our dining experience.

I started with saffron pasta fiore, tomatoes and lemon thyme. What came in the plate in front of me wasn't what I expected at all...I was expected something relatively light, but what I got was creamier and heavier than just tomato sauce. It wasn't bad, but I had wanted a lighter starter.

I took the glazed iberico pork chop, morels, spring onions and baby greens as my main course as it was the only thing that jumped out at me from the small menu. It tasted pretty damn good. You can't go wrong with pork fat, and parts of the pork chop were definitely very tasty and succulent. But I felt that it was a little overcooked, and the parts without fat came out a little tough. It wasn't totally dry, but just could have been juicier. The exterior was nice and crispy. The bed of veggies at the bottom was absolutely delicious, but why did they have to use so much cream?! Putting creamed vegetables with a fatty pork chop was just overkill. In terms of taste the dish was a winner, but it felt like I shoved a brick into my stomach...

I was kinda full but loathed the thought of leaving without having tasted dessert, since I'd been told that the pastry chef was pretty talented. I ended up taking the Oreo crusted key lime tart, whipped cream. Visually it wasn't what I expected at all... The thin Oreo crust was at the bottom, topped by a layer of key lime cream and a thin disc of caramelized sugar on top. Texture-wise it felt more like crème brûlée. Thankfully the portion was small, and there wasn't too much whipped cream on top. The lime-flavored sauce was also very nice, and the acidity of the whole thing helped balance out the rather heavy meal.

So I finally came to taste Gray Kunz's creations, but I walked away from a strange feeling. I had expected heavy use of Asian ingredients and light touches, but found the meal to be heavier than most of the high-end French meals I have had in town. I did not taste these, but my friends complained about how heavy the vegetable sides were. The heavy use of cream just screamed "American", and not the modern, contemporary American that I'd grown accustomed to, either. This will probably end up being another one of those places where I won't find myself returning to...not because anything was horribly wrong, but because it just isn't my cup of tea.
