又要說重覆的說話,懂我的人都知道我愛西班牙菜,不要問我為甚麼,大概,你會在西班牙找到很棒的海鮮,亦找到很棒的廚師,還有很棒的食物配搭,當然也少不了很棒的美酒;所以我是打從心底穀超愛西班牙美食的。最近,Fofo by willy在西營盤開了另一店 — La Paloma,想來很久,但一直湊不夠人數來;終於,在四月的某一天,因為各種原因,終於有機會來了!因為暫時還未有酒牌,所以可以攜酒來而不收corkage fee,你知道嗎,這是愛酒人的一大樂事,所以,這天我們帶了好幾支酒來呢。“Anchoas, cogollos de Tudela, aceite de oliva” Spanish anchovies, crispy lettuce and olive oil vinaigrette $78很多時,我們吃的anchovy其實都不是真正的anchovy,所以與這個正的anchovy有很大的分別的;這道tapas,味道的確不錯,anchovy 的肉質很彈牙,鹹香度亦適中,配上了酸酸的醬汁,更能突出那魚香,而且十分開胃! 很多時,我們吃的anchovy其實都不是真正的anchovy,所以與這個正的anchovy有很大的分別的;這道tapas,味道的確不錯,anchovy 的肉質很彈牙,鹹香度亦適中,配上了酸酸的醬汁,更能突出那魚香,而且十分開胃! (Must-Try)

Bikini Mallorquin

Toasted sandwich with spicy sobrasada and Mahon Cheese $60

Bikini是到那間店都是必吃的,太愛這種有芝士又有麵包的食物;這個bikini,沒有加入甚麼矜貴的ham,味道上,當然沒那樣的矜貴,但當中加入了mahon cheese和spicy sobrasada,sobrasada也是肉的一種,所以入口還是帶著些肉香,以$60來算也是不錯的。

Patatas Bravas

Traditional potatoes with spicy sauce $45

這道菜看似簡單,但肯定的是不是每間店也做得好;而這個,則令人有點喜出望外,薯仔軟綿綿的,外層輕輕的香脆,最棒便是那醬汁,味道上帶輕輕的辣,帶著些蒜香;怕澱粉的我也不斷的吃吃吃。(Must-Try)

Chicken Croquettes $55

Croquettes亦是另一道在西班牙餐廳必點的菜式,因為或多或少也會知道廚師的真章;說句公道說話,小妹喜歡ham多於chicken的,所以多好吃也不會太愛的;這croquette外層炸得香脆,沒有厚厚的粉,內裡亦creamy,喜歡吃炸物的還是可以一試的。

Stuffed baby squid with lobster sauce $78

可以讓我在這裡說一句私事嗎? 以後外出吃飯,我不用再擔心可不可以點魷魚、八爪魚或墨魚之類高膽固醇的食物了,只要我注意飲食,努力運動,我的膽固醇值應該不會超標的。這bb魷魚,頗彈牙的,味道亦帶鮮;而預層的煙肉亦很crispy,而那龍蝦汁當然亦是很棒的。

然後便來了一份包,這軟包中間夾著的是鴨,鴨經過烹煮,帶著濃郁的醬汁味,另外那菇菌亦很香,味道是不錯的。

Suckling Pig with traditional garnish $350

Suckling pig是在西班牙餐龐必吃的,沒甚麼原因的,就是要吃吧;這個做得很好呢,皮脆肉嫩,那香脆的豬皮不是厚而硬的那種;而肉味亦濃郁,個人認為在數間在港的西班牙的餐廳來說,這是不錯的。(Must-Try)

Squid ink and prawn dry paella $328

Paella雖是大鑊飯,看似易,但要做得好,是有點難度的;餐牌上有傳統的以雞肉作餡料的,亦有龍蝦的,也有這款墨汁的,我們都贊成點墨汁的;一吃下,立即愛上了,做得真的很棒,飯粒的煙韌度剛好,墨汁味濃郁,真的很棒,下次來一定會再點的。(Must-Try)

Strip loin $398

說實話,從來都覺得在西班牙餐廳應該吃多些tapas而不是main course,這次點了是日精選的Strip loin,因為沒抱甚麼期望,所以也沒甚麼失望;肉質未算很棒,肉味還算濃郁的;最美味的反而是那mushroom,濃郁的菌香。

最後便來了一份西班牙式的多士,這在西班牙是頗common的,但我們都不算很愛這質感,總覺得怪怪的。

雖然不是每款食物都很棒,但我覺得還是值得一來的,而且價格上亦很相宜,不用$400一入便可以吃得飽飽的,我定要趁還未有酒牌前來多一至兩趟!!

吃起來彈牙也不會韌
再有吸飽了橄欖油的薯仔一起吃

而餐廳就在西營盤地鐵站旁 也很是方便
很是適合大班朋友聚會
美中不足的是 所在的大樓還在裝修中
好在餐廳內早已做足準備 并沒有太多異味
下個週末

這間位於西環皇后大道西的地中海菜,是香港少有的西式餐廳。店員大部份都是外國人,會令大家尤如置身在異國風情的餐廳中。先來的就是餐前小吃,我們共叫了兩款。第一款係包有軟心芝士的火腿卷,店員推介要成粒放落口食。因為口一咬,裡面的芝心會流出黎,內脆外軟,口感一流。而且一咬,裡面的軟芝士會佈滿口腔,滿有芝士味,一流。 ↓第二款就是香辣蜜糖薯粒,焗得剛剛好。好入味,而且外脆內軟。↓之後就來主菜,這個龍蝦焗飯煮得很出色。飯中帶有濃郁的海鮮味,而龍蝦熟到恰到好處,很鮮,很爽口。龍蝦肉拆肉加上檸檬汁以及旦黃醬,令成個飯調出味道,口感更清新。↓主菜還有這道烤豬,烤得剛好,豬皮很脆,肉很嫩。但如果醬料可以稍為調淡一點就完美了。因醬料偏咸。↓ 最後就是甜品,我們點了兩個。第一個是煙熏雪糕,食落口有淡淡的香熏味,令到這個雲尼拿雪糕除了甜味外,更昇華到另一個層次。↓還有這個榛子朱古力軟包。包裡面的醬很厚重,四個人share 剛好,不太膩。↓

I've thought long and hard about rating systems, given that I, as an OpenRicer, rate things a lot. My personal rating system has evolved from a 1-10 thing, to an A, B, C, D, F thing, to a version of the latter where I attach specific adjectives to the letters. This last part is important. For example, my system in part goes:C-C+: Acceptable, OKB-B+: Good, GreatA: ExcellentLa Paloma is new, and it will change. La Paloma is new, and it will change. It was a welcome treat for them to give us at the end of the meal a card to fill out with suggestions and ratings. The system was:

1: Poor
2: Average
3: Good
4: Excellent (I actually forget the particular descriptor here)

But there's a false quadrachotomy here. Some average things are poor, like an average root canal. Some average things are good, like an average vacation. Other average things are excellent, like my average friends (shout out to my homies!) La Paloma is good. But for a Spanish place in HK? It's average.

We started with a mixed meats and cheese platter. I liked the meats and cheese. The bread was lame, and only two slices had tomato rubbed on them (pan con tomate-- ish). OK, C+

So, first of all, "olives" here are mostly not olives. It's cornichons and pickled garlic and pickled peppers and then maybe an olive. It doesn't say that on the menu. And really, average olives are great. They couldn't even manage that. Misleading, disappointing, and poor: D
Pork Belly Salad

We got a salad that was advertized as pork belly and tomatoes, with maybe pickled peppers as well. I liked it. The pork belly was more like crispy bacon than what you imagine when you read "pork belly", but it works well in the salad. Everything was vibrant and a little vinegar-y. It can be tough to bring me around to a salad but this was great: B+
Morcilla and Tripe

We also got a dish that had blood sausage, "tripe", and some other stuff. I am not a tripe person, or an exotic meats person. However, one of my dining companions was convinced that "tripe" here was chitlins. That is, instead of stomach, it was small intestine. Hey, I don't judge, because frankly, I don't eat. [No rating]

Gambas al ajillo-- garlic shrimp. These were garlic shrimp alright. I thought the shrimp were cooked very nicely, but somehow did not live up to the versions I regularly got in Spain. The garlic was maybe overly mushy instead of crisp and intense? As far a shrimp go, these were good: B
Octopus on Potatoes

Having octopus on your menu is risky business. I've given terrible reviews for squeaky, chewy, tasteless octopus, and also great reviews for nailed-the-landing octopus. This stuff is good-- nice and flavorful, not at all chewy, enticingly crisp-- and on a bed of soft potato and light cream/ mayo sauce. I recommend this dish: B+
Mollete

I regularly cook a Mexican thing called a "mollete"-- it's bread with refried beans and cheese that's been toasted. In Spain I'm led to understand that "mollete" is just a southern-style bread. Anyway, at LP, they had a duck (and mushroom? I can't find the menu online) mini-sandwich they called a "mollete". It was high on my list when I looked at the menu, but in the end, I was disappointed. C-

I probably won't be fair to the pigeon. I only got a wing, which is the worst part on a bird. Still, I won't be craving this. KFC delivers a tastier bird for WAY less. McDonald's wings are to die for when compared to this. OK in taste, poor for $3xx.
Suckling Pig

We got the pigeon because LP is all about their roasting oven or whatever (don't blame me for bad descriptions, they really should have a website). We also got the suckling pig, and I will say that that is fantastic. I mean, I've had a moderate amount of suckling pig (I don't in any sense rival people from around here). But this was tender, and juicy, and deeply flavorful with crisp but yielding skin-- THE thing on the menu I think you should get. A+

P.S. We were worried about the size, but all the other stuff plus this easily got devoured by four people.

I was fine at this point, but the insatiable appetites of my dining companions definitionally knows no satiation. So we got four desserts. The donuts were universally mocked, as being basically Lil Debby. I think the nutella thingy and the crispy tangy bread w/ ice cream were the most loved. (Again, no website, so no better descriptions. Even this place's facebook page doesn't have a menu.) I'd say dessert was OK: C

I can't convey the craziness of our visit. While we were there, three police officers showed up. Why? Who knows. There was a large crowd of people drinking off in a different area than we were seated in, even though this place has no liquor license. On our way home, several blocks away from LP, we ran into a random Spanish guy who was looking for LP. Something was going on, but I know not what.

The food here isn't bad, and I'd even say it's good. If you go, get the pig please. But on classics like gambas I was disappointed; on gambles like molletes I was disappointed; and on specials like La Paloma = pigeon, I was also disappointed. So as a rough guide, given my own preferences and limited experiences, I'd suggest:

1. Fofo (strangely, the same people that do this place)
2. Tapeo
3. Numero 15
4. Iberico & Co. (maybe this at #3)
5. LP
5. 22 Ships-- but NEVER NEVER NEVER

So yes, average-- maybe a little below average. But still good.
題外話/補充資料: Other comments we gave them on the comment card: Turn the AC up please. We ordered coffee but it never came. Price and service are great.
