Seated at a table on the window side overlooking the street below, we ordered the Sexy Chef Menu which got eight different tapas and a main course plus dessert. First we had the Gazpacho Andaluz, which is the traditional Spanish cold tomato soup with toppings. The soup is thick and refreshing, with nice tomato flavors, plus some red onion and croutons.

Then there is Coca de Cebolla, which is a home-made flat bread with confit onions, cinnamon apple, blue cheese and walnuts. Originally I thought it was tomato because of the reddish color, but upon eating it didn't taste like tomato, with a clear walnut flavors so I guess this is the dish, but I am not too sure and forgot to ask...

Next is Paletilla Serrana, the cured ham from Spanish white pig. The ham is very good with the appropriate salty and savory flavors and thinly sliced so it essentially melted in the mouth, without the fiber sinew which makes many Iberico ham difficult to chew.

The Ceviche de Lubina y Papaya is a ceviche with sea bass and papaya. Very appetizing on both the appearance and taste, with good tartness, the ingredients are all fresh but the sauce maybe just a bit too acidic for us.

The fourth tapas is the Tuna Ahumado, a yellow fin tuna with a 'puff' which got some chipotle cream inside. The tapas has to be eaten in one go, with the interesting contrast of the tenderness of the tuna, the crunchy of the puff, and the creamy texture of the filling.

Then comes the Chorizo, which the Iberian pork chorizo sausage. A famous tapas and commonly seen in different tapas bar, this one is nicely prepared with the sausage grilled perfectly with some char but not overly so, and the sauce has a good red wine flavors, good for dipping with bread as well, but just a bit salty for me.

Gambas al Ajillo is sauteed prawns with garlic and chili. With a good sprinkle of chives on top, plus nice olive oil used to saute the prawns so it is flavorful, pretty on the serving, and another no-frill tapas that demonstrate the quality of the restaurant and chef.

Higado de Pato is foie gras mi-cult with orange salad and toast, with the foie gras pan-fried nicely, caramelized on the surface, melting and very rich, but balancing with the acidity of the orange peel and the toast also helped to absorb the oily notes, plus giving the crunchy texture for enjoyment.

The last tapas is the Iberian Croquettes, with the croquettes just deep fried, with the crunchy skin and soft interior, plus the ham providing the savory taste to the potato mashes. After completing all the different tapas, even though each is fairly small and of bite size, we were already quite full.

The main dish we have selected Paella Valenciana, the traditional paella with chicken, rosemary, green beans and artichokes. Cooked to perfection with a slight crispy toast on the bottom, the paella is flavorful and nice, though maybe without too much pleasant surprises as well.

Last comes the dessert which is Churros, the traditional fried crispy dough with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, with the dough doused with cinnamon sugar which added another dimension to the flavor, and when dipped with the chocolate and ice cream really wraps up the night with satisfaction.
The service is decent, certainly not bad but in my opinion could be improved by checking in with us more often in the meal, and also to explain a bit more on the different tapas when serving. Having said that I could understand this is a tapas bar so the service level should also be tied to that.
The bill on the night was $919 for two persons, with me also ordering a virgin sangria (because I was driving) and a bottled water. With no service charge the price was very reasonable, and of course we tipped quite generously in the end too.
It is a tapas bar I recommend, and maybe next time would like to try more of their other tapas. My overall rating is 65/100.

以前讀書讀過一段時間西班牙文, 仲去過西班牙玩一個月, 雖然local西班牙菜咸到乜咁, 食過真係以為西班牙d鹽唔洗錢咁款), 但番到香港唔知點解真係好懷念, 響香港搵來搵去都搵唔到比較似西班牙菜嘅味道(又唔洗咁咸嘅, 落少d鹽都ok嘅)又坐得舒服嘅餐廳, 太古廣場都有間幾好食嘅, 不過坐bar檯實在坐得好辛苦有朋友介紹嚟西環嘅La Paloma, 話好好食, ¿De Verdad? 拉埋我朋友試吓先~響香港西班牙菜嚟講, 呢間價錢average啦, 味道又真係拍得住西班牙嘅味, 不過食paella真係叫多d朋友先抵食, 因為真係好~~大~~份~~下次想試吓龍蝦嘅paella, 唔知係咪真係咁好食呢?

Portions were generous for tapas, and great value as well (just look at the plate of jamon!), and we heartily tucked in while having catch up conversations. That's what tapas are for. My faves were the tuna, jamon and foie gras.

Suckling pig was good, but I'm not convinced about the sauce, as it made the skin less crispy. The lamb was awesome and great value, could have had another dish. The only let down was the paella, as you can see there wasn't much seafood on it, mostly rice and even then it was on the dry side. Hard to stomach.

There is a free corkage for the first bottle if you buy one of theirs, or order a jug of sangria, which is pretty fair.

看到皮下肥厚的脂肪,令我質疑這乳豬是否超磅了!幸好,切去皮下脂肪後,仍可品嚐得到香脆皮層和鬆嫩入味的乳豬肉。

本來還要嘗試西班牙海鮮飯,可是大家的肚皮已撐得繃緊,無法再裝進食物了!

這回首次惠顧「La Paloma」感覺沒大家所講的美味和便宜,不過侍應們的服務和用餐氣氛都很不錯,我們整晚更像鴿子般不停談天說地、大笑,又或是品嚐食物,嘴巴沒有休息的機會!

We had a variety of luscious tapas to start with:

Salmon Ahumado ($25/pc) with explosive smoked salmon with chipotle cream and marinated salmon roe, Tuna Tataki ($25/pc) with spicy avocado, Bacon Con Queso ($74/4pc) with bacon and cheese explosive air baguettes and Mollete De Cangrejo ($80) with spiced crab soft sexy sandwich. My favorite was definitely the bacon and cheese explosive!

The Roast Dover Sole ($580) with garlic, thyme, white wine, seasonal vegetables and sundried Piquillo peppers was a definite show stopper with its grand presentation in a big metal pan! The fish was cooked just right with a smooth and flaky texture while the sauce was flavorful without being overwhelming.

The Squid Ink and Prawn Dry Paella ($348) was the highlight with its rich and savory rice. I loved that parts of it had been slightly burnt which added an additional smoky aroma to the rice!

Being a huge fan of Spanish food, frankly speaking I haven't been to a lot of tapas places in Hong Kong as I never understand why people market tapas as the new type of fine-dine cuisine. Come on, Tapas is just the Spanish version of bar food. Using knife and fork to eat your croquettes or montaditos is seriously way too pretentious. However, having said that, I have actually came across a really decent tapas place that my friends brought me to in the Western district a few weeks ago - La Paloma. Not only was it nicely decorated cozy, carefree dining place, the tapas were solidly legit, and people here do nibble with their fingers!

We have started with some bite-size tapas first. The Salmon Ahumado ($25 each) and Bacon con Queso ($75) were both very much like the air baguette I had in Tickets Bar by El Builli in Barcelona. Instead here they made the 'bread' sort of shell by baking thin pasta sheets and fill them with chipotle cream and salmon roe, or queso... the cream cheese. The Salmon was thickly cut, oily and beautiful. But my favourite was the Bacon con  Queso. The seared bacon has its thin layer of fat half melted, like the grease you find in cured ham. The cheese was creamy and rich in taste. Both the one-bite tapas were finger-licking good hmmm.

Prawn Carpaccio ($168) was another must-order. You are basically enjoying these Spanish red prawns that come with intense flavours on its own from head to tail in a sashimi style. It was a bit pricy but SO GOOD!

Smoked fish ($98) has always been one of my favourite tapas. Out of all, my favourite seafood was definitely the oily smoked eel. The salmon was very tender as well, while the vinaigrette sardines were nice and sweet.

The pan amb tomaquet was a slight disappointment though. Perhaps with the locally found tomatoes, the sweetness of the vegetable was not as pronounced. The baguette was also a tad dry with a light splash of olive oil, and the bread itself was very dense indeed. Crackling was light and not at all greasy. Literally melt in the mouth but I didn't think the paprika was necessary...

Bocadillo de Calamari ($80) is a must have item in Plaza Mayor in Madrid. Instead of a slopy version, they make it so delicate here in HK ... almost like dim sum. The bread was airy and I loved the crunch, but then the batter wasn't so light as preferred.

The Dover sole ($580) was pretty amazing. The taste of the sun dried Piquillo pepper was quite pronounced which helped to enhance the overall flavour of the dish. The fish was slightly chewy, meaty and very little bones.

The Mejillones (mussels, $138) was one of my favourite dish. They were cooked just right, they were snappy, sweet, really flavourful even on its own, not to mention you get the lovely flavour from the chorizo broth coming with it.

Gambas al Ajillo ($78) - very sweet and fresh shrimps with plentiful amount of garlic. Make sure you don't miss out the heads!

The Arroz Negro (black rice, $348) served in La Paloma was one of the best I have had in town, and talking about black paella it was definitely way better than La Fonda in Barcelona which was famous for it! The rice was cooked for just the right amount of time, neither overcooked, soggy, nor hard and intensely chewy. It was coated with some creamy, sweet black ink and mixed with a handful of squid pieces. The mussels, which i assumed was put on top after cooked seperately, was lightly boiled, with the flesh nice and silky. The shrimps were sweet, with a hint of smokiness from the grill.

While I thought we were only waiting for the dessert to come, I was so surprised to see that my friends have prepared such a heart-warming dessert platter, wishing me happy birthday at once! The platter consist of some mini Donetes (Chocolate Doughnuts), Flan, Torrijas (Caramelised Butter Bread) and Banana Split. Awww I feel so spoiled!!

Another signature Spanish dessert we didn't miss was my favourite Churros! The Churros is by far one of the best I had in Hong Kong because it wasn't too doughy nor spongy, and not at all greasy.

Spanish is definitely my favourite cuisin because it is always fun to share small dishes with friends over wines and sangrias (not to mention they have passion fruit flavour White Sangria here!). And I mean, what more can I ask for when I am celebrating birthday with some decent tapas? Thank you again for such an unforgettable evening!

Initially when we looked at the brunch menu, we saw 8 appetizers and thought that we could only choose one of each between the 4 of us, but we were pleasantly surprise when we were told that we would be getting all 8! Our first appetizer was a Scallop Carpaccio with orange vinaigrette and marinated salmon roe which was deliciously fresh and refreshing to eat. The acidity of the vinaigrette balanced the sweetness of the scallops nicely.

The main dishes were meant to be shared between 2 people so since we were 4, we go to try 2 mains. The first one we chose was the Signature Suckling Pig with traditional garnish (add $50/person) which was out of this world! With its crispy skin and juicy tender meat, it was definitely one of the best suckling pig I've ever had and we were all fighting for the last piece.

The La Paloma Signature Seafood Paella, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing as part of the rice was burnt and hard to chew. I also expected more toppings as the paella looked a bit sparse compared to traditional ones.

還有 Mollete De Cangrejo - Spiced crab soft sexy sandwich ($80),第一次吃軟殼蟹做的肉餅,口味與質感介乎蟹餅及魚肉餅之間,加上微辣沙律醬及軟包,效果特別。

還是接下來 Gambas Al Ajillo - Sautéed prawns with garlic and chilli ($78) 對胃:蝦隻不算頂級鮮爽嫩甜,但蒜香調味頗為誘人,雖未引到我蘸法包來吃(留下來有別用),也不錯吃。

甚麼菜式要預留特多的麵包啊?答案是 Mejillones a la Marinera - Fresh mussels cooked with onions, saffrons and chilli ($135),雖然珠玉在前,真心覺得 Frites 的青口才是天下無敵,但這裡的版本也算鮮嫩可口,底下的醬汁更是精華,先前的麵包都在這時派上用場啊!

單吃小碟已經八成飽,但還有三個大菜呢,首先是 Lenguado - Roast Dover sole, garlic, thyme and white wine with seasonal vegetables and sun dried Piquillo peppers ($580),超巨一尾龍脷魚以大鐵鍋呈上,肉質結實同時又做到鮮嫩滑溜效果,加上大量雜蔬清新開胃,吃完還要再添!

經過一場靜心等待,期待已久的驚喜來了:餐廳以巨大鐵鍋呈上多款甜品並點上蠟燭,悅目可愛,加上現場即時播放生日快樂的歌曲,氣氛一流,引到甜美壽星露出如花笑靨!的確,蛋糕吃得多,如此別致的甜品併盤可不多見啊:太飽又較晚關係,我只吃了 Donetes -Mini chocolate doughnuts ($48),正常,以及 Flan Tropical - Passionfruit and coconut creme caramel ($48),幾喜歡後者以酸味熱情果襯上柔滑燉蛋,效果非常特別、令人難忘~

特別一提,餐廳不設加一,大家隨心付上服務費就好。愛上吃西班牙菜,除了鍾情於味道,喜歡那悠閒輕鬆的感覺也是原因吧~ 見到店內有 $298 Brunch,也心動想拉老公一試,當然更希望是明年去不成曼谷的話,索性來個西班牙七年之癢旅程,一於吃個痛快。有機會嗎?

一向喜歡西班牙菜的我們,竟然發現我家附近開了間西班牙菜幾個月卻一直提不起勁去試,直到昨晚在openrice 看到食評知道原來是和我最愛的西班牙餐廳FoFo同一集團,突然前來一試。雖然看過食評都說沒有fofo出色,但心想同一集團,爛船都有三分釘,结果點了大约8碟菜,只得 Bacon and cheese explosive air baguettes 特別出色Bacon and cheese explosive air baguettes咬下鬆脆,芝士半漏出來,和煙肉完美混合其他菜色,因為不是我點,所以不知道名字 hams 油潤不過咸,好味! 但配的麵包太少了Mussels 汁太稀而且不夠熱、無咩味全晚最搞笑係食到半中途突然熄燈,以為有人生日吹蠟燭,點知原來停電! 越坐越熱,等左10分鐘無人話我地知咩事,但我見無waiter serves 野食,心知不妙,問下waiter 先知原廚房無電,連oven都用唔到! 我喺香港出面用餐咁多年都係第一次遇到咁搞笑嘅事! 全晚最搞笑係食到半中途突然熄燈,以為有人生日吹蠟燭,點知原來停電! 越坐越熱,等左10分鐘無人話我地知咩事,但我見無waiter serves 野食,心知不妙,問下waiter 先知原廚房無電,連oven都用唔到! 我喺香港出面用餐咁多年都係第一次遇到咁搞笑嘅事!
Waiter 每枱送上olives示意叫我地再等一等好快整好,但連olives都特別難食,已經無心機再等suckling pig 同其他菜式,我地叫埋單,但waiter無check有咩未黎,俾左張全部菜式嘅單我地簽,好在我地望下,先發現有兩個末黎,兩個漏了落order! 四個人食左$1500卻唔飽! 走時不斷見到9pm個場客人入黎,餐廳其實好應該即刻打電話叫啲人唔好黎,尤其連自己都唔知幾時搶修好。

P.S.尋晚經過見到店內全黑,應該還未修好

呢個法包仔入面全部係CREAM CHEESE!!!好好好好漏!!!!仲好油!!!!!!!!!!!!!食完一隻係咩都唔使食!!!
題外話/補充資料: 可能冇冷氣,仲有好多蚊芝飛黎飛去!!!!!!!!!!!!!

本身因為覺得佢一d同出面比較唔同嘅tapas吸引,所以就約咗好姊妹們嚟食我哋嘅monthly gathering dinner. 臨嚟之前嘅一日打算上網睇定食啲咩先發現原来佢係同我哋最鐘意嘅spanish restaurant - FoFo 同group!,但係就行比較casual dining嘅路線.Explosive air baguettes 可以說是La Paloma其中之一嘅賣點,所以一嚟就order咗兩款air baguettes:咁多款tapas之中,個人最鐘意就係Explosive smoked salmon with chipotle cream and salmon roe (HK$22/pc), 煙三文魚屬於厚切的那一種,佢同上面嘅三文魚子調味適當,咸香味啱啱好 ,air baguettes 入面辣辣地嘅sour cream一咬開就即刻溶入口中,個感覺幾正同得意 另一款就係Bacon and cheese explosive air baguettes (HK$68), 個air baguette一樣都好脆,煙肉油度算適中,連埋入面湧出來嘅芝士,雖然係d基本嘅

另一款就係Bacon and cheese explosive air baguettes (HK$68), 個air baguette一樣都好脆,煙肉油度算適中,連埋入面湧出來嘅芝士,雖然係d基本嘅配搭,依然不錯.

中間其實仲食咗一d其他較basic同常見嘅tapas,例如
otato cubes, spanish omelette 同埋parma ham,味道普通,個人比較鍾意FoFo 嘅version多啲.

嚟到spanish restaurant 基本上都會試下佢哋嘅paella,因為有d掛住曾經係Barcelona食過嘅black paella 所以就order咗呢個黑蚊蚊嘅Squid ink and prawn dry paella (HK$328),但係結果等佢等咗成兩個鐘先上桌(因為中間一啲唔係咁愉快嘅事件發生咗)

等咗咁耐,雖然已經無乜心機食,但對佢嘅期望都會高咗,睇下佢有冇d咩值得我對佢嘅印象好返啲...但係paella真係太濕了
,而且基本上完全無見到佢有蝦,十分失望
.

總括來講,如果食類似既spanish food的話,我下次應該都會揀返FoFo,始終水準好好多同平穩啲,服務都好啲.
