牛油雞翼先到。炸得相當香口又不油膩,唯牛油香味不突出,是可改善的地方。

First came the chicken wings. Much to my pleasant surprise, the 2 pieces of chicken wings were not oily at all. Those were very crispy. However, the butter taste was barely detectable.

跟著到主角出場。我急不及待吃了一口,發覺用米粉做的麵包質感很特別。口感鬆軟,感覺像英式鬆餅與叉燒包之間。

餡料相當豐富,除了兩大塊的豬腩肉和札肉之外,還有大量的蔬菜,香草,甘筍和醃籮蔔。醬料有美乃滋和鴨肝醬,絕不欺場。大食的我都有八分飽。讚。

店員爽快友善。店面不大但佈置得很有特別。提議放多些紙巾。

整個餐連香茅特飲盛惠$80。我確得性價比不錯,值得一試。

看到有些客人給店名的「疑似」粗口冒犯,我的朋友楊炬翔和李鷺媚都同意這確有令人誤會的空間。

Then came the banh. It had:
Two large & tasty pieces of Pork belly x 2, goose pate, mayonnaise, some pickled daikon, Carrots, Vietnamese sausage,
Cucumber & Herbs. Satisfying.

My understanding is that these banh buns are made of rice flour. That explains the interesting texture of the buns, which reminded me of a cross between an English muffin and a Char Siu Bau.

The portion of the whole set was about right. At $80 per set, I think it's good value for money.

Friendly service.
My only quibble was that they don't seem to provide napkins.

Another point that seemed to have offended some customers is the suspected swear word that seemed to be part of the name of this place. Having said that, Phuc Dat, I'll be back.

灣仔區近年破舊立新,囍帖街、同德押逐一倒下,灣仔街市、和昌大押等也換上新貌,舊回憶慢慢洗去。那晚路經一間新式裝潢的餐廳,原來是一間越南餐廳。食客能夠清楚地看到廚房,感覺乾淨企理。主食可選面﹑飯或越式法包;肉方面可選牛﹑豬或雞。每個餐都包一款小食,例如越式炸春卷﹑烤雞翼等,亦跟一杯餐飲。

下班後有點事到了灣仔,順便吃晚飯。由於沒有訂任何餐廳又不打算fine dining,還是隨便找間餐廳好了。 汕頭街、大王東西街等小街一向有很多小店,見到一家越南菜餐廳,見很久沒吃越南菜便進去。餐廳地方不大,約二十多個位。餐牌也是很簡單, 一版睇完,套餐都不外是選那種肉,然後主食,再選小食及飲品。點了牛肉法包跟青木瓜沙律,青木瓜絲爽口,配上醋汁額外開胃。法包外脆內軟,牛肉醃得入味,很喜歡越色菜的香茅牛肉。另外再單點了份米紙卷,總是覺得越菜要有米紙卷才像樣,而且又是比較健康的選擇。看到每條米紙卷都有一隻細蝦包在裡面,再加上札肉、粉絲、蘿蔔絲等,非常足料。到處試不同的小店,通常都會有驚喜。

另外再單點了份米紙卷,總是覺得越菜要有米紙卷才像樣,而且又是比較健康的選擇。看到每條米紙卷都有一隻細蝦包在裡面,再加上札肉、粉絲、蘿蔔絲等,非常足料。

到處試不同的小店,通常都會有驚喜。

呢個河粉個湯真係好正,好香鴨油味,不會太淡味道,沒有選用味精。雞絲是雞肉撕出來,不是用急凍雞扒!

河粉正常寬度,會吸湯。旁邊有醋,辣椒水、辣椒粉等等加進去添味。

小食是春卷同雞翼。春卷是素春卷,炸得幾脆,餡料豐富,好似有蘿蔔

雞翼炸粉適中,沒有太大雪藏味,調味也足夠。點酸辣醬正!
我地飲品係越南啤酒、越南咖啡同青檸soda。

我不太喝咖啡,所以不太懂得欣賞,飲的那位表示甜。

啤酒是味道清,偏淡味。

青檸soda正常無伏。
題外話/補充資料: 記得當時做緊promotion。Happy hour有雞翼啤酒任食任飲XD 飲品仲有奶昔可以加錢選擇,有榴蓮味道!

You can choose your protein: 1) chicken & duck, 2) pork or 3) beef and done 3 ways: with 1) rice, 2) banh mi, or 3) pho, and you can choose your own side all for HK$80.

I went with the juicy and fatty pork belly banh mi sandwich and ordered the garlic buttered fried chicken wings. More on this in a bit.

The chicken and duck over rice meal set which will set you back HK$80.

Another look at my banh mi and garlic wings! The banh mi was actually pretty nice. I loved how much flavor it had and how juicy the pork belly meat was. The banh mi bread was hot, crispy and only a tad moist because of the sauce from the braised pork belly.

Lastly, here's a look at the lunch menu! We also ordered drinks (lime soda $25 and a Viet Coffee $25.) The coffee took well over 15 minutes to come out even though the space was quite empty that day. Think this place has good potential especially for a quick in and out meal but hopefully with faster service.

I looked over the menu and opted for the shredded chicken and duck with the soup noodle set, taking the 2 piece garlic butter chicken wings and vietnam style coffee iced.  The drink came first and then the wings.  The noodles took a while to get to me , though there weren't too many customers around.  As you can see the open kitchen, the main reason for the delay is the one man operated tiny kitchen.  I asked for just a little ice in the coffee but got a bit too much, so I drank it quickly so th

I looked over the menu and opted for the shredded chicken and duck with the soup noodle set, taking the 2 piece garlic butter chicken wings and vietnam style coffee iced.  The drink came first and then the wings.  The noodles took a while to get to me , though there weren't too many customers around.  As you can see the open kitchen, the main reason for the delay is the one man operated tiny kitchen.  I asked for just a little ice in the coffee but got a bit too much, so I drank it quickly so the flavor wouldn't be diluted by the ice too much.  The coffee wasn't really strong as it's supposed to be, just meh.  While waiting for the rest of the meal to come, I asked the server whether I could have a tiny taste of the chicken flavored rice.  She agreed and brought me more than just a taste.  The chicken rice didn't taste very chickeny, so I am glad I didn't get it.  Chicken wings first arrived...I loved them!  They tasted so delicious, not really garlicky as advertised, just a nice light, fluffy batter and good flavor.  Then the soup noodle came.  I didn't really see or taste much duck, except for a few slivers of the roasted duck skin (maybe the soup covered the taste).  The soup was really delish! full of flavor...I can taste some spices that they used.  The noodles had just the right amount of bite, not soggy at all as someone else had mentioned below (maybe he got unlucky that day or maybe he left the noodles sitting in the soup to long?).  My one slight disappointment was that the portion of the soup noodle was rather small.
One disappointing thing was that they didn't have any of the shakes (I was going to order the durian shake).  I also wanted to mention that with the set meal, it came with a standard drink, which normally costs $25 a la carte.  The shakes costs $35 a la carte, but if you wanted to upgrade your standard drink to a shake, you had to pay $25 more, doesn't make much sense to me.
After my meal, the friendly server (who knows, maybe she also owns the place., but I forgot to ask), asked me how the rice was.  I told her the truth, which was that the rice didn't taste very chickeny.  She sympathized with me, explaining that the current lady that cooked the rice wasn't very good at it.  I also told her that the soup was excellent, which she made her beam.  I kinda suspect she  maybe has a stake in the restaurant because she then asked me how the noodles were...indicating that she thought the noodles has a good chew, which I agreed and said was good.  Servers don't normally go and ask into such details, especially at a mom and pop shop
and especially not in Hong Kong.

身為小食的代表,另加點的鮮蝦扎肉米紙卷材料挺實在豐富的,除了有色水艷紅的爽口鮮蝦以及肉香味濃的扎肉之外還有青瓜、紅蘿蔔及生菜,蔬菜與肉的比例平衡得剛啱好,口味相對較清淡健康。米紙本身帶微煙韌卷包起來亦屬相當紥實,儘管餡塞得滿滿的但也沒有一拿起就"散修修"的弊端....

包舖面有大量的香菜,一看就知對路了;饀料有慣常的扎肉、腩肉及肝醬外當然少不了要有我認為一定要存在且要有足夠份量的醃蘿蔔絲才行,這樣的鹹香夾雜著甜與脆酸的味道才是好吃Banh mi的關鍵....

嚴格上眼前的這個也算是合格的....當然若果蘿蔔絲可以再重手的話那就更妙....

好吃的法式三文治,除了饀之外香脆而flaky的包身也是相當重要。可惜是似乎今天的包有點不太夠熱,脆度上個人亦認為可以再提高....

但還是那一句話啦,有得吃已是一件樂事了....

So I was in Wan Chai near this restaurant, and the restaurant I was trying to go to was closed for a long July 1st weekend. It was hot and muggy and I was hungry, so I came here. I want to be clear from the start that this was not my first choice.Because 'tacky' is not strong enough of a word. Using swear words in your name and the names of your dishes is tacky and vulgar, but to be honest, I'm tacky and vulgar, and if that's all that was going on, I could, potentially, dig it. But this is next-level, overt racism, like "Darlie"-toothpaste original name level, but x10. The logo of the restaurant's mascot is a caricature of questionable taste. Many of the dishes are named in ways that suggest that Vietnamese people speak English funny. There are lots of unfunny sex-jokes that suggest that Vietnamese people are vulgar prostitutes. Hooters outclasses this place by a Georgia mile.

But this is a food review. The owners, managers, and designers of this restaurant may be terrible human beings, but it's possible they make good food, not good decisions. So on that note:

We got two sets at $80 each. The sets come with one main, one side, and one drink. For our first side we got the papaya salad. It was an OK papaya salad. Not a lot was going on. There wasn't chilis or peanuts and mostly it was papaya and cucumber. Maybe it was a little translucent and soggy, but actually I'd recommend it as a refreshing accompaniment. At $40 stand-alone price (that is, not with the set), I would not recommend it.

The spring roll was good. This type of spring roll isn't necessarily always good: sometimes they're just greasy and bland. This was a nice, crispy rendition with a good filling. This was the point of the meal, however, when the lack of real sriracha made itself felt. By "real sriracha" I mean of course, Huy Fung brand sriracha, "rooster sauce," which is far and away better than the overly-sweet, not-at-all spicy alternatives.

The pho came, and as you can see, it's not a huge portion. I'm fine with this, but most any other pho joint will give you more food. Additionally, about half of what you see (or more precisely, all of what you don't see) is soggy rice noodles, so limp and disappointing.

The rest was pretty good however. We got the beef, described on the menu as "lemongrass tomato braised beef," it was extremely tender and seemed much like the beef brisket one gets at Cantonese noodle soup joints around town. There were plenty of herbs and the broth was rich and meaty. The noodles just distracted from the good stuff, which was everything else.

The banh mi didn't look all that great on the menu or in person, but the bread was much better than it appeared, nicely toasted and surprisingly robust. We ordered the pork belly ("caramel braised pork belly") but thought it was too fatty. Sure, pork belly is fatty, but you can give your customers the meat part, or you can give them the fat part, and what we got was mostly fat. I don't fault them: people around here seem to like this.

The sandwich also comes with Vietnamese sausage, mildly pickled vegetables (daikon and carrot) and tons of herbs. This was not a bad sandwich-- too much fat and mayo for my taste, but otherwise pretty good. I'd order it again with a different meat choice.

Overall, I thought the food was pretty good. Most Vietnamese places in town are pretty bad, unfortunately. Nevertheless, I am an outspoken fan of BEP, and I think they're just better than CBM. The pho's better, the noodles are better, and the banh mi is better. If I lived in Wan Chai, I could see myself coming back to this place (though wearing sunglasses and a hoodie so nobody else saw me going there), but it's definitely not the best in Hong Kong.

I really do like the beef in the pho though: that's my main recommendation. But actually, no, my main recommendation is to boycott whatever racist man-children dreamed up this venture until such point as they've grown up, can behave like civilized human individuals, and cut the racist nonsense. You can always patronize Hooters in the meantime.

題外話/補充資料: I had a little bit of trouble figuring out the script. You have to order at the front, and then fight for your own table. It's a takeaway-oriented joint.

首先從雜誌中 , 小儀曾經告訴我 , 這小店的法國麵包是向麵包廠特別訂做的 , 特別之處是法國 麵包加進了粘米粉 , 這難怪麵包吃進口裏是多了一分輕盈多了一分鬆化;中間配料還夾入自家製作火雞肝醬、扎肉、洋蔥、九層塔、醃蘿蔔及蛋黃醬等 , 當然不能缺少那份用香茅及蕃茄燜過的牛肉 , 吃這份三文治是需要把儀態丟掉 , 因為口感實在豐富 , 一口是咬不完 , 味道吸引又不會感覺負擔重 , 那變成要一口接一口的吃。

好死唔死,當日出去同朋友Food hunt先至咁鬼大雨......首先講set 80蚊,我揀左邪惡既焦糖五花腩法包,跟餐配青檸梳打同埋牛油雞翼。法包最小唔係石頭,預過呢種狀況既朋友們I know that feel bros. 夾入面既香草蔬菜類其實足夠,每啖都食到均勻放好,仲有幾片扎肉,令到個口感好豐富味道唔單一。金不換夠新鮮,所以即使咁多蔬菜情況下,佢隻味依然好突出。而五花腩,邪惡呀!入面有幾舊肥肉,真係比足料有肥肉,唔係瘦肉位黎。食呢D有舊肥肉個香味會幾何級咁昇華左,果陣油香實在令人欲罷不能,嗚呀~~而雞翼......WOW!!!!! 好耐未見過牛油雞翼。食之前我索左小小油,呢個係個小遺憾。其餘黎講,個牛油酥做得好脆身,而且炸出黎個金黃色令到我食完好有衝動叫一客自私食多4隻,食落去淡淡蒜蓉牛油調味已經非常之滿足,而且有汁至於雞鴨就作參考睇相啦,杯野飲我既約莫講下。梳打現沖夠氣,飲梳打無氣既話就哂氣啦,青檸味足夠但略嫌香茅味可以再濃小小。Overall黎講解渴消邪惡之選黎,係個雞翼面前黎講呢個幾多十杯都無用lol。

This is a nice little joint close to where I live. In addition to convenience, the menu is simple and easy to navigate. Have tried the banh mi with pork belly here and it's good. I would recommend getting the papaya salad instead of egg rolls as the sandwich can leave someone with an appetite like mine wanting just a bit more. On days when I'm hungry, I would go with the papaya salad and rice plate with beef.
