I have been to Paul Lafayet many times to purchase their Macarons and other lovely desserts. I am just in love with them. As I have tasted the best Macarons ever from the one and only Laduree in Paris, I believe these ones come quite close to it. However, I have realised that their Macarons can be inconsistent, as in there could be too much of the ganache filling in one and being normal in the other as well as having one or two holes inside the meringue disc making it "airy". The pistachio macar
The pistachio macaron has always been my favourite as well as the rose flavoured one, however PL's rose macaron isn't very strong and I think it would taste better if the rose taste is stronger. The other problem with it was that it was "airy". I felt a bit cheated after eating it. The passionfruit was different and was a delight.
I have also tried a two of their artisanal pastry as they look so very delicious and tempting!!
This chocolate & raspberry macaron ($40) is filled with rich chocolate cream with real raspberries in the middle. When I was eating this I totally forgot about their being raspberries until I reached the middle. I think it balances well with the chocolate and the overall taste is good. I also bought my favourite macaron; Pistachio. This was when I realised their inconsistency with macarons as this time there was way too much ganache filling which didn't balance well with the meringue discs.
This lemon tart with meringue ($40) was quite disappointing. As I have tried a very good one back in Australia, I had my hopes up for this beautiful looking one but the meringue part was the part that disappointed me. It wasn't "meringue" enough, as in not being "hard" enough. I mean it shouldn't be too hard but it was just too soft to be called meringue. It was more like pavlova. The lemon tart was nice though as I like the citrus tang to it which was nice. The base was made well too.
This is when I fell in love with PL's caramel macaron!! The ratio of the meringue disc-ganache filling-meringue disc was perfect! Much better than the pistachio one.
Despite having a few tiny upsets, I love Paul Lafayet desserts overall. The design of the desserts are so tempting that it draws me in everytime I walk pass. The whole layout of the store is bright and clean, giving it a modern and fresh look. If only the TST store would be bigger with more seats, then it would be perfect. I am looking forward to try out more desserts from PL very very soon
