This is the first time I tried Kampoeng, this is supposedly an authentic Indonesian restaurant. Again I ordered take-out as I usually do on weekdays for dinner. For one person I ordered a variety of food, since my idea of an ideal meal is that the food should be plentiful. Therefore I ordered several dishes, from the beef shank rendang, to beef satay, and fried tilapia with cooked chilli sauce and fried corn fritters. It was about right for one person I thought.
The only gripe I had was that the fried corn fritters were quite oily and did not have the crisp or crunch. Not sure if it’s because it was a takeaway, hope if dine in it will be must better. The fried tilapia was quite good, the taste and look of the fish is basically as near as it would get if you were to purchase it on the streets of Jakarta. Even when I got back to the office the fish was still crunchy and crispy. However, the chilli sauce that came with was very potent! Definitely very spicy and not for the faint of heart. I put a slab on my fish and bite into it, and Bam! I was drinking water right away.
All and all the dinner was quite good and fulfilling, especially the beef satay. I only ordered 3 skewers, but I should have ordered more as it tasted really good. The beef was tender with a slight chew and it was covered with a sweet and burnt sauce. It tasted just as good without even dipping in their house-made peanut sauce.
