In Kimberly street lies one old European looking white building, or rather, a mansion. Inside Hotel The Luxe Manor, you can easily follow the sign to the lower ground that leads to the FINDS. I went there to celebrate birthday, as we thought trying out Scandinavian cuisine sounded exotic and fun. One discouraging factor was the decor, which gives you an atmosphere of semi-forest and more of a lounge than a restaurant. When we arrived, we saw just that, a luxurious hotel canteen. We decided to try
We decided to try the tasting menu, and we were informed that 5 courses comes with an extra appetizer. We stuck with 4.
This bread had a very particular taste with seeds that I am not familiar with. They were very dense in texture, quite heavy in taste and grainy. It was somehow addictive, that we ended up ordering another bucket with an additional charge.
This is salmon cooked in six ways, which is one of their signature dishes. Each had different seasoning for the different parts of raw salmons. I tried to enjoy them more delicately, but to me, tasted quite similar.
Another appetizer was the seafood platter. After having the salmon six, they were just good tasting raw seafoods.
This is the onion soup, which was okay and better with some bits of bread.
We were very excited with the venison and it was well worth the expectation. The venison, which was medium-rare cooked, was very soft and juicy, and the risotto that came with it was also in harmony. The sauce was light, and un-disturbing the main meat. The portion was very small if I would compare it to a steak serving - expecting it to be less than 100g or around that. This little dish was too good that the tiny portion made me upset.
The signature dessert Daim Parfait looked different from other parfaits, but it tasted really nice. We were so much into this ice cream that we did not put much attention to the ‘Daim’ candy bar, just to find out that candy bar in IKEA.
Another dessert we got was a chocolate cake with a special berry. Though I was worried that he did not like that berry, the berry part was a very subtle one - just little drops on the plate for decor. FINDS prepared us special lettering and a candle for his birthday surprise.
Together with the wine, we spent little less than $1200 after the 20% discount on Openrice. For a tasting menu, I thought it was an acceptable price, but for the overall experience and for the purpose of filling your tummy, I think it is of less value.
Looking at the other offers in the place, I think their lunch, brunch or afternoon tea sets looks more attractive to me.
