I have been meaning to come here for a long time, especially after reading the rave reviews about their desserts, I thought this would be a good place since there is a infamous sweet fiend in our group, and someone who is not the fairer sex either! We were a party of 5 and were seated in the single table in the little "room" not far from the entrance, which was very nice because we could talk more privately away from main dining room. We were a party of 5 and were seated in the single table in the little "room" not far from the entrance, which was very nice because we could talk more privately away from main dining room. As I had already had something to eat before, I wasn't very hungry and sampled the following, in order of yummiliciousness (apologies for not giving the full names of dishes):
(1) Guacamole and nachos: the best of the evening as they gave you more guacamole and salsa than nachos lol, which were not the usual corn chips but something else, I couldn't really tell. There were generous pieces of avocado in the guacamole as well, which was nice, although there weren't much taste other than the avocado.
(2) Apple and blueberry crumble: (I think that's what the menu said) they had put they berries on the top of the crumble instead of mixing them into the apple, which in my books doesn't count as part of the ingredients as the blueberries only counted as garnish. I can be wrong about this and will stand corrected. The dried lemon slice atop the vanilla ice cream was the best lol, although the crumble was also not bad and didn't have too much of the dreaded butter in it.
(3) Key lime cheesecake: this was disappointing, because the lime was hardly discernible, as was the cheese. A very hushed hushed effort.
(4) Creme brulee: a cold creme, not my favourite. It was very creamy though and I am sure this would appeal to a lot of young ladies.
(5) Californian chicken salad: the description was promising, but I was a tad disappointed when the salad arrived, as it didn't really seem to have all the ingredients that was mentioned on the menu. Everything was chopped into bits and the salad would not have been satisfying had it been eaten as an entree. There were hardly much chicken in it, and the taste lacked character.
(6) b]Thai beef salad: the worst of the lot, this felt like a hastily put together mixture of leaves, onions, and slices roast beef with a dressing that was mainly just sour. The portion was also not too generous.
We also ordered the uni roll and the fajita which I didn't taste.
Overall, the taste spectrum you find here is quite narrow, with ingredients not really being used to their full potential. Salads can really pack a punch and have flavours galore, but here, they play it on the safe side to suit most palates, which is understandable, but I don't think I will be back here again, I would rather pay about the same price and go to Dressed instead. Applegreen probably appeals to the young bunch, somehow the environment reminds me of a concept fashion store.
