新開的意大利菜。情人節,超多人,很多都是飲杯野,酒吧一直站滿人,坐在旁邊的二人枱,又吵嘈吵,又不斷有人在旁邊行來行去,每次都以為他們會把枱上的碟掃落地,或者掉些甚麼在食物上。雖忙,但店員的服務不錯,態度友善。Gratin Tomino CheeseParma ham薄薄的,包著焗過但只有餘溫的芝士,味道都可以。下面是焗得很脆的芝士,勉強還好。Warm octopus salad完全看不出是八爪魚,硬得誇張,隱約有點燒完的魷魚乾的味。厚厚的,咬不開,邊吃邊怕消化不良,吃了一半就放棄了。擺碟加了不同點綴,漂亮,但實在吃不下。Truffled popcorn爆谷混了一絲絲很幼的松露,帶少少鹹,用作調味。清清淡淡,偶爾吃到松露才算有點味,不過單吃原味爆谷都可以接受,起碼不難食。Baked veal, tuna sauce牛肉看起來像吞拿魚肉,煮至全熟,又點韌,不嚡,淡得近乎無味。唯一好吃,是下面的吞拿魚醬。Rigatoni Nduja驚嘉地好吃。通粉al dente,咬口一流。黏滿醬,而且咬下去中間的醬爆出來,特別好吃。醬的蕃茄香和辣度都很正,非常惹味,總算找到滿意的一道。Truffle Ta

爆谷混了一絲絲很幼的松露,帶少少鹹,用作調味。清清淡淡,偶爾吃到松露才算有點味,不過單吃原味爆谷都可以接受,起碼不難食。

牛肉看起來像吞拿魚肉,煮至全熟,又點韌,不嚡,淡得近乎無味。唯一好吃,是下面的吞拿魚醬。

Truffle Tagliolini
吃完rigatoni, 終於找到好吃的一道,以為它們擅長意粉,便點多一碟。

等完又等,意粉終於來了。聞到松露香,吃了一口,卻是惡夢。難食得嚇了一跳,橄欖油撈麵加幾片松露,幾乎沒有味,絕對有理由懷疑忘記下鹽。內有洋蔥粒,要超仔細才吃了少少pickles般的酸咊。怎麼可能這個味道的?意粉不腍,有手造意粉的彈,但我寧願吃公仔麵。這道怎會值$190?!

We went for a free tasting opening at Acquasala a few months ago, which we then followed by dinner there that weekend, so yesterday was actually our 3rd time trying it. At the tasting we got to try more of their larger offerings like the ribeye and the cheese/salumi tasting plates, which were delicious, but it was  more casual and slapdash that night. We had a full meal the 2nd visit, and it was a good, if somewhat mixed, experience. However, the host Joel was so friendly, and i love the idea of a Southern Italian restaurant so much, i was hoping for an excuse to visit again. Fortunately, through IG, i found they were offering a crazy cheap January set menu of three courses with a glass of wine for $178.

Apparently, it's the first restaurant opening overseas from Life-Egg, a Japanese conglomerate that, among many other things, has a portfolio of Italian restaurants back in Japan. Southern italian  is an interesting choice for a first opening; i'd have expected something  more standard, but maybe standing out is a valid strategy. Frankly, Hong Kong's Italian food is either cheap and mediocre or the really expensive 8 1/2-type, which i'm not willing to pay for. Apart from Pici, which i enjoy, everything in between is so unappealing and overpriced. It's one of the cuisines we rarely have at restaurants (it's all i cook at home though!).

As you can see, not too expensive, and the portions are pretty decent. I'd say a main and an appetizer each is perfect, though ribeye can be shared.

It's quite reasonable by bottle, starting below 400 with many choices in the 450-600 range. Though the price per glass seems high with limited options, they are aiming for you to order a bottle, and the reasonable prices make that easy.

Okay, i had no idea what acquasala was before I tried it here. A summer salad from Puglia in southern Italy, it's a simple recipe that embodies Italian "poor cooking." It uses stale bread soaked in olive oil and tomatoes, garnished with salt and basil. It actually sounds pretty delicious if you get the best of everything.

Here, they use a piece of dense, toasted bread as a base, top it with tons of cherry tomatoes and prawns, and finished with anchovies and olive oil. By not tearing up the bread as the classic recipe does though, it doesn't really work together. The flavors don't mix enough and it's difficult to eat all the components together. Further, the centerpiece, the bread, is so hard it doesn't absorb all the tasty oil and juice. The tomatoes were fresh but strangely flavorless; for this specifically, i think imported ones might have been worth the extra cost. Overall, this could be a lot better.

The octopus was overcooked and too chewy, but the tomato confit was rich and nicely balanced the charred octopus. I'd assume the octopus will be better-cooked next time and for $98, it's a fine appetizer.

Gratin Tomino Cheese

Absolutely nuts cheese dish that for 98$ gives you two wheels of grilled parma-ham wrapped Tomino cheese on thick slices of sourdough. Way too much for just 2 people, it's probably best divided by 3 or 4. Reminds me of a baked camembert, and the mild-medium tomino is gooey, warm and rich.  The ham surprisingly stands out and gives the cheese a bit more complexity.  Highly recommended.

The dish we disagreed on the most - the pasta is perfectly al dente, but the black garlic sauce it's tossed in is strangely sweet. I got used to it after a few bites and the stracciatella is great with it (wonder what a stronger cheese would do for this dish though), but my friend never did and hated it. I loved the density and chewiness of the pasta (apparently pasta from Gragnano is one of Italy's best), but this is definitely not for everyone. If you have a group, i do recommend you give this a shot though; a new set of flavors i'd never tried before.

Bathed in a parmigiano sauce and stuffed with herbs, it's decadent and delicious. Nothing surprising, but you won't be disappointed.

 I didn't try it, but my friend said it was one of the best ones she's had recently.

Below is from the January special deal they had. A truly insane 178 for 3 courses and a glass of wine (Chianti the day we went, which they sell normally at 130/glass btw). I can't recommend this deal enough if it's still being offered when you go. Ask for it specifically!

As it looks, but a more complex flavor than i'm used to with beef carpaccio, and wonderful with the mixed leaves underneath.

A perfectly juicy, not watery burrata. For the price i would have expected one piece for two of us to share; no sir, you get one each. The burrata, as always is mild with a strong fresh milk flavor, so if that's not your thing, drown it in Acquasala's delicious olive oil and some fresh pepper.

Again, one large dish per person, when it was almost enough for two. Nicely cooked rigatoni, but the nduja is a bit sparse and too well incorporated into the sauce;  you don't get that strong spicy, meaty flavor i was expecting. We still ate the whole thing of course.

Overall, I liked Acquasala. The service is outstanding (they're just getting started, so they're more generous with freebies) and the food is something different and delicious in what is frankly, a weak Italian food scene in HK. The prices are just about right for this kind of upper-casual atmosphere and the $178 3-course set is a no-brainer to try. There are some really interesting dishes on offer here, and I appreciated the variety.  If you want to try the a la carte, I'd recommend going in a group of three or four and trying everything. Give Acquasala a shot and you'll find something worth remembering

Food is quite good and at very good price. Promotion of $178 with three good portioned dishes plus one glass of wine. What an unbeatable deal! Free bubbles for all ladies during the night. Wine and the bubble are just very house type. Dont expect they are tasty.

We went by for a pre dinner drink and we stayed all night, the food was really good, italian way, good selection of wines and nice funny staff.I certainly book a table again.
