This is my first review, so hopefully I can provide some decent info for others.
Our group of 3 came here on a Saturday for lunch. The place is located in Langham Place, which is a nice but crowded building/shopping center with a lot of tourists. I was surprised we only had to wait 10 minutes for our party, as there were a lot of people out and about in the building. The restaurant is located in the food court area with an open-air setting, but it was just fine for a fun casual dining experience.
Since it is known for its cartoon face baos/buns, I was afraid it was just a gimmicky place and did not serve good food. I was wrong. I'll go over the dishes I recall.
-BBQ pork wrapped in rice rolls: Good -- pork meat portion was generous and rice roll/noodle was good
-Penang rice noodles: Better than average -- the flavor was kind of one note. On the positive side, it was still good and there were at least 4-5 big prawns.
-BBQ pork piggy bun : Good - the bun/bread part was not as light and fluffy but that is expected, as it is a piece of art more for picture taking. However, it was still tasty. Too bad it does not come out hot as I believe they have to leave it out to cool as they are adding the final touches (eyes, nose, etc.). I am not sure what hygiene standards were being followed when they making the final decorative touches (i.e., they were using a pen to push and solidify the eyes/ears on the bun), but it was fine to me!
-Turnip cake: Good - crispy and tasty with some fried sliced lotus roots
-Fried salted egg yolk green beans: Better than average - Pretty hard to mess up as deep frying most things are tasty (e.g, fries, tempura, etc.). It was pretty crisp but the only complaint was it was definitely too salty. I've had salty egg yolk on other foods before. Had to drink plenty of tea with it, btustill all good!
For 3 people (M/F/F) with normal-sized appetites, we ordered the above along with a few extra items and 2 drinks. The bill was about $600, which was reasonable, but we definitely did not pick the more expensive items on the menu. Unlike other dim sum restaurants, I believe there are no tea time specials. That's too bad, as I would probably come back more often. As it is, I'll likely visit once every month or two. Definitely cheaper dim sum elsewhere though like Tim Ho Wan.
Overall, I would say the food is not as good as the dim sum at THW, but there is much more variety and a better, more relaxed atmosphere. They also allowed us to relax for a while after we were done with all our food, which was nice. As stated above, I'll probably be back again in a month or two.
