Today was my really good friends birthday. He made a reservation at this restaurant and we were all excited to try something new. The exterior is very clean and inviting, so we slid the door open and were greeted by friendly staff. We were seated immediately at a very spacious table for eight. Immediately, you will be enthralled by the HD television screen playing the lastest K-Pop music videos. My girl friend, and other friends, who are all huge fans were very impressed with the selection. We also brought a cake, and the staff helpfully helped us store it to keep it from melting. Unfortunately, they did not inform us that they were storing it in a freezer as opposed to a refrigerator. The cake just ended up being a little hard until it thawed a bit. The birthday boy, after a few minutes, ordered drinks for everyone and the evening began happily. After chatting and drinking for a short while, we proceeded to order some food. The restaurant is more of a snack and drinking venue opposed to a traditional korean dining option. Therefore the menu is quite limited in its selection.
The very first impression that you have when you see this gigantic jug being brought towards you is WOW! The jug is huge, and looked very appealing to all of us who were parched from our long walk from Jordan MTR Station. However, after pouring a small glass for everyone, there was only about a quarter left in the container. The beer itself is very cold and refreshing. For those who like a very light beer, this would be a perfect choice. We ordered two rounds of this, and the birthday boy was very merry.
This was a very simple salad. It really helped cool down the flaming mouth from all the spicy food. The white raddish was very normal and helped cool things down too.
The presentation of this dish is very lovely. The mountain of thinly shredded onion gives the dish great volume. This portion of onion was also the only decent vegetable serving for the entire evening. The chicken was fried very well. The skin was very crisp, but not oily, which I believe is a very difficult skill. The chicken meat was not too dry, in fact it was very tender and juicy. The small portion of sour sauce was just enough to complement the dish perfectly. On your first bite, you just feel a slight kick, but after a couple more mouthfuls there is a slow burning sensation. However, this is easily defused with a sip of cold beer.
The dish was steaming and very hot. The portion of rice cake was minimal, I think they could have given us more. The hot sauce was at a medium spice level, once again a slow searing burning sensation. The cheese was very cheesy and melted all over the dish. Personally, I thought there was too much cheese, and I am a cheese lover. One friend commented that this dish was way too heavy.
The arrangement of the chicken was lovely. I did not know that this dish also came with rice cake so I was pleasantly surprised, not having had enough in the previous dish. The BBQ sauce was excellent, but it was very spicy. This spice burned for a much longer time. However, this time the chicken was very dry, and not tender at all. The rice cake was much softer and went great with the sauce.
This soup was steaming when it was served. Once it was divided between the eight of us, each person had a small rice bowl portion. The fish cake was excellent, soft, tender, and full of fish flavour. I really enjoyed this dish, however the spice was overwhelming. There were little green chilis at the bottom of the soup and if you accidentally consumed one of the chili seeds, your mouth would become a flaming inferno. Luckily, we had cold beer on hand.
There seemed to be a steady flow of customers all night. The staff were very friendly and helped clear the table before bringing the cake. They also lent us a lighter to light the candle for the cake. The toilets are also very clean, and the soap smells like roses. Overall I had a great time, but the limited menu will not have me coming back in the near future, maybe in the distant future for the spring onion fried chicken.
题外话/补充资料:
The closest MTR station is Jordan Exit D on the Tsuen Wan Line. From there it is only a 10-15 minute walk. Also there was no cake cutting fee, which was much appreciated by all of us.

Finally got to try this after reading the enticing review by "Kan Lee" (thanks! )
Never realized one of my best friends whom I knew for more than 25 years could eat even hotter food than I could!
Probably because I never paid much attention to food when I was still a heavy smoker and because we had never gone on a mission to try spicy food together. I've only started paying more attention to food since I've stopped smoking. I believe I was not bad when it comes to hot food, as far as someone born and bred in Hong Kong is concerned. But he was even better! Σ(゚д゚lll)
We met one day and I suggested to him, "食唔食韓國0野?Shall we try some Korean food?" (deviously )
"好阿。Sure!" He said (unaware of my intentions.)
"你食唔食得辣o架?Do you mind spicy food?" I asked.
"得。行喇。No problem. Let's go."
"好似好辣架o禾。I heard it's really hot."
"o甘點呀,So?..." [My friend my completely cool about it. Σ(゚д゚lll)]
"你唔食得辣架o羊?Can't you handle spicy food?" He asked...
. . . (Right) . . . "鍾意食...! o甘行喇。 I like spicy food. (No problem I hope...) Let's go!"
He told me that when he was studying in the States, he had a lot of Korean friends. Seemed like he was used to Korean spices. Good news for me too! (So we could try many more spicy dishes.)
We arrived at about 6:30 p.m. and thought we could get a seat easily. However, it wasn't as easy as we had initially thought!
Decor:
The whole place had no more than 30-35 seats, and 15 of those were reserved for big parties. So not a lot of space for walk-ins. Booking is strongly recommended!
It seemed like a small American local bar with dim lighting. The important difference is that they serve Korean "Hite" beer, pronounced as "height" & O.B. beer but not American Budweiser (BTW, the Czech Budweiser IS the original one!) There is also Korean pop as background music.
A good thing about this place was that most seats were partitioned off from other seats and you have a lot of privacy. That's excellent for drinking and fooling around generally - especially after sochu - so you won't embarrass yourself in front of too many people (just the few around you).
Surprisingly, the place was already almost full when we got there! We had to stand in the middle of the restaurant while one of the two Korean male waiters fumbled through his notebook written with what seemed to be reservations. After a rather long wait (he was fumbling through the reservations and walking to and fro asking for instructions from the boss in the open kitchen), the boss with pony tail finally approved of our presence.
However, we were only allowed to stay until 8:30 p.m.
We agreed and were led to a table at the very far end of the restaurant. There were two boxes of tissue papers placed on the table. That's a slight warning of what may come next. As will become evident later, it's crucial.
My experience of authentic Korean restaurants generally is that you will be accorded with A LOT more respect if you order drinks - alcoholic drinks. That's the first thing we did even before we sat down. Two "Hite" beer (pronounced as "Height") and after we sat down, a pot of "Makkori" as well (it's a traditional Korean white rice wine with a lot of soluble fiber. The alcoholic content is just about 6%, so similar to beer. Just a lot sweeter and supposedly healthier).
Very fresh lettuce with thousand island sauce; Prawn crackers; and Pickled turnips, which were nice and sweet.
The menu was in Korean, Chinese and English with photographs for practically all dishes. So not a problem. Just point at the Korean characters when you order. It registers a lot faster.
They serve many different types of fried chicken. Most of those were dipped in batter and then fried. The original taste was normal batter with chopped leek (which we ordered - HK$180). They also had spicy battered wings, soy sauce battered wings and many more. They also serve fried Korean rice-cakes and other interesting dishes including hot pots.
I couldn't really recall other items on the menu because my focus was just on the battered wings and.....
the infamous
the terrible...
the unberable...
...
and
hot as hell
"super spicy phoenix claws"!
(chicken feet is more elegantly named as "phoenix claw" in Chinese)
When I pointed to the phoenix claws (HK$180), it even prompted the generally quiet Korean waiter to use Cantonese to say, "Do you really want to order this? Many people ordered this but they couldn't finish it because it's too spicy!"
A quick look at my friend and a quick look at the Korean waiter,
then I said,
"This one please. 감사합니다 Kamsamnida! (thank you in Korean ~ well, that's what I tried to say anyway!)"
This drew the attention of another Korean waiter and another Korean waitress (I believe she speaks Cantonese too)
Σ(゚д゚lll)as they were looking at our tables at this point, probably to see who these two foolish characters were. . . . .
First came the battered chicken with leek. Although HK$180 was not cheap, the portion was big. Felt like it was a whole spring chicken chopped into more than 15 rather large pieces. It had a lot of chopped leek on top of the chicken too.
I initially thought the chicken might be a bit tough because those were cut into rather large chunks. To my complete surprise, they were tender!
It's hard not to compare it to KFC. Basically, it's similar to the spicy batter at KFC but a lot softer and lighter. It's not oily at all. Light and crisp. Very nice indeed!
The large amount of leeks spread on top of the chicken were very fresh too! I believe it's marinated with Korean sesame oil and possibly with a hint of Korean soy sauce (which had a higher alcoholic and salt content than Chinese light soy sauce, naturally). It was very good to have the chicken together with the leek.
A pot of boiled water with crispy/burnt rice. It's used as a remedy to cool you down after eating the super spicy wings. It's supposed to help you stop the spiciness.
Interesting...
Is it really that hot??
!(◎_◎;)
My friend dug in without a second thought.
I took one as well (recalling vividly how others reacted to this...) . . . . . .
Analysis:
First impact: Mild.
Taste: Mild and Sweet... initially.
Slow burn factor: Very Slow
Impact time: 10 seconds
Reaction after first impact: It's really hot! Phew!!
Swelling: A bit
Runny nose factor: Normal. A piece of tissue every 15 minutes.
Sweat factor: Above average. A piece of tissue every 10 minutes.
Half-life: 7.5 minutes!!
Lingering factor: Long! At least 15 minutes !!
Remedy: Makkori and Hite (and other types of beer?)
Addictiveness: Very high! (Will return again and again.)
Comparison: Similar to satay mixed with sambal sauce. Very similar to the dressing in "African Chicken"...... plus a table-spoonful of pure red hot chili juice!! It was great! Very complex and not just simple spiciness. We couldn't stop eating it. We alternate between the claws, the wings, beer, leek...etc. to keep the spiciness under control.
Did the rice water help cool the spiciness? The General's party did not know... for they did not need it!
The Boss, the two Korean waiters and the Korean waitress all looked on interestingly. They tried to be subtle but it was quite obvious that they were trying to see our reactions. Well, instead of screaming for help, coughing uncontrollably, or scrambling out of the shop to buy milk ...
we just ordered two more bottles of Hite
and carried on with our conversations (with the occasional tissue paper session).
(Perhaps to their disappointment)
My friend was completely fine. He thought those were very delicious.
I was tempted to order a bowl of rice but the chicken was quite filling. Probably for next time then!
It was 8:30 p.m. and we needed to return the table. We asked for the bill.
The same Korean waiter gave us the bill. It came down to HK$750 for the chicken, the phoenix claws, two pots of makkori and six bottles of Hite. It's good for three persons actually!
Being my annoying self, I couldn't help but rub it in, to make the point that we could handle it.
I pointed at the phoenix claws and told him, "맛있었어요! ( ma-si-sseo-sseo-yo)"
It's supposed to mean delicious and thank you in Korean, however, I could tell from the blankness in his face that he couldn't understand what the heck I was try to say.
So instead of embarrassing myself further, I gave him a Thumbs up - d(^_^o) and said, "this was OK! "
