The first time I went to 李家  (English name: Chicken  HOF & Soju) was many years ago before the chicken and beer trend started. A fairly large Korean restaurant serving only chicken, beer and soju. The first time I went to 李家  (English name: Chicken  HOF & Soju) was many years ago before the chicken and beer trend started. A fairly large Korean restaurant serving only chicken, beer and soju. We had gathered with my other expat friends on  Chinese New Year and we were the only ones there. And we ordered lots of fried chicken and lot os alcohol. We did return a few more times but then the chicken and beer trend started and the place became popular with queues for hours. As we never have much patience to line up, we stopped going and thus, forgotten. Until one day, we walked by and noticed the shop had closed. Or so we thought.

On one evening, boyfriend and I discovered they had moved to another area of Tsim Sha Tsui. A more quieter area. For nostalgia, we decided to go in and see if it was still as good as we remembered.

The new shop also has a take away window offering Korean street snacks on the go. Including fried chicken in a cup.

The interior was the same as before. Booths with high walls for privacy. Kpop videos playing on the tv screen dotted every where. The menu, however, had greatly expanded. It used to be just varities of fried chicken and a few deep fried items suitable for drinking. But now they have added more Korean dishes. There was also a list of items they specifally said were new. Menu is in English, Chinese and Korean.

They do start you off with the complimentary salad and pickled daikon. The salad was fresh and heavily doused with sesame dressing.

We started with nonalcoholic drinks while we waited for our food. I had the Blueberry Rainbow Soda ($38, on the left) and boyfriend had the Curacoa Blue ($38, on the right). I found it cute that they used straws that were the same color as the drinks. Drinks were ok. Sweet and tasted like soda. We later moved on to sharing a soju.

We decided to try a new item. This is the Deep Fried Squid Legs and Rice Cake Soup Set ($158). The soup looked very red and seemed spicy. But surprisingly it wasn't! It was very sweet with a tinge of heat but not much. The rice cakes were soft and chewy. There was also a few slices of Korean fish cake.

But the squid legs! These were fantastic! So crunchy and yet the meat was still juicy! They were nicely seasoned and we couldn't get enough. I think we ended up eating the crumbs on the bottom of the basket. That's how good it was.

As the soup needed something  extram we ordered a  Gyeranjjim or Korean Steamed Egg ($58). This was fluffy with a light dashi taste. There were bits of diced carrot. And adding it to the soup, it made it even better.

Finally, our chicken arrived! The whole reason we came here. Usually we order the spring onion salad version as we always agree this place does the best one, but we decided to try something else.  So, we chose the Original Soybean Whole Chicken ($168). As always, this place will always be the best fried chicken in town. The skin so crisp, it crunched when I bit into it. The meat was moist and juicy. The sauce was sweet and savory. There was lots of it so it really get sticky and messy.

Still my favorite Korean fried chicken place. Glad to know they only moved to a bigger space! Can't wait for the pandemic to be over so a group of our friends can gather again like so many years ago and order plate after plate of chicken.
