自港鐵開始興建西環線, 西營盤立即變天, 不斷有特色食店開業, 今天目的地是高街, 此街差不多全都是特色餐廳. 坐港鐵到西營盤商街, 看地圖, B2出口(第二街)較為近, 但要向上行, 另一C出口(般咸道)較遠, 但向下走, 雖然可行過隔離街用扶手電梯, 但寧可揀遠一點的C出口, 向下走, 舒服很多. 看見店名是"Granville Island", 估計老闆應該是加拿大人, 至於是否住在溫哥華? 不得宜知, 但肯定對於距市中心不到十分鐘的Granville Island有十分濃厚的感情. 位於溫哥華市南的小島Granville Island, 單是環島行, 只需二十分鐘, 但如果想觀光島上事物, 可以行大半天也不覺悶, 尤其是如果你喜歡街頭藝術和市井的街市風味, 絕對可以消磨一整天, 那兒的 Public Market, 有新鮮蔬菜、生果、鮮魚、三文魚乾、各式肉類和糕點, 就連溫哥華最出名的意大利火腿店"Oyama Sausage"也設有櫃位. 到處行行, 優閒地在咖啡店歎杯下午茶, 一天時間, 轉眼間很快便過.店內一排木櫃, 放了各式各樣的handcraft beer (手工啤酒)

啤酒專家介紹今天第一隻Handcraft Beer, 由義大利進口的Duchessa ($68).  酒精濃度5.8%, 顏色較深, 重麥味, 泡沫不多但飲落綿密豐厚, 有花香味, 也有微微的果香, 但我試不出是何種果味, 但參考介紹, 果香是菠蘿和熱情果, 知道了後, 果然感覺到有些少菠蘿味喎...哈哈....

送酒美點, 必定選熱氣炸物, 炸魚柳薯條 ($148)就最合適了. 講起Fish & Chips, 自然會想起英國, 就好像講起壽司會想起日本一樣. 市場研究公司曾經做過一次大型調查, 訪問全英國, 究竟最能夠代表英國是甚麼人或事物? 最後選出一百大名為"100 Distinctly British Greats"的調查公佈(有興趣可網上找一下). 結果是雙冠軍, 第一位是兩款食物, 其中之一就是Fish & Chips, 而另一款就是Yorkshire pudding(約克郡布丁), 英女皇也只能攞個季軍, 屈居第三.

炸魚柳份量絕對夠誠意, 有三大件. 炸魚柳要做得好, 除了要魚靚和粉漿做得好之外﹐油也十分重要﹐通常加一點牛油來炸(並非搽麵包的牛油, 而是真的牛脂肪). 麥記也曾經試過加牛油來炸薯條, 重要係"唔食牛肉"的印度, 真係大大鑊. 但可想而知, 加了牛油炸的食物, 味道絕對升幾個級, 老麥果然識貨呀, 哈哈.... 切開魚柳後脆漿, 厚身雪白的魚肉還在冒煙, 入口外脆內軟, 最佳食法是, 洒一點海鹽, 沾一些麥醋, 微微鹹酸味道, 食落鮮甜.

專家的第二款推介的啤酒是美國麻省的 Jack’s Abby Hoponius Union IPL ($68). 酒精度: 6.7%. IPL (India Pale Lager) 即是所謂的 IPA (India Pale Ale)的現代版. Ale是用頂層發酵, Lager是用低層發酵. Ale 的最佳飲用溫度大約10~18℃, 而Lager的最佳飲用溫度是7~9℃. 關於 India Pale 的說法是, 在17至18世紀期間, 運輸英國啤酒去印度時, 為了延長儲存時閒, 提高酒花和酒精度比例, 也改變了酒花香味與苦度. 德語"das Lager"就是貨倉之意, 啤酒經過低溫儲存而成熟, 酒花香味清爽, 聞落有蜂蜜的甜蜜味, 但入口甜味輕微, 麥芽味重.

蕃茄鮭魚意粉 ($158). Linguine不一定是菠菜專美, 用於蕃茄醬也別有風味. Linguine寬扁, 比 Fettuccine 幼一點, 適合作為掛輕淡味的蕃茄汁. 用新鮮蕃茄做汁, 味道的確不及精製茄膏的濃烈, 但勝在味道自然, 有天然蕃茄的酸味, 洒了一些香草, 入口清新. Linguine 煮得適時, al dente, 絕無問題. 三文魚肉不失滑嫩, 口味簡單而不膩.

第三款推介的啤酒是美國愛荷華州的 ALL DAY IPA ($64). 酒精度: 4.7%. 這款啤酒生產於種植有豐富熱帶水果的西岸, 味道自然帶果味. 講到明是"ALL DAY", 即是一天任何時間都合適飲的啤酒. 第一啖入口, 酒苦味道比Jack’s Abby Hoponius Union IPL更為強烈, 低估了其4.7%的酒精度, 但與此同時, 果香味豐富, 兩者配合得宜, 取得平衡.

美國頂級肉眼牛排($398). 賣相吸引, 牛排厚身又夠份量, 霸了木盤的三分一, 其餘配料有煎薯蓉、磨菇、沙律菜. 肉眼排是外脊近胸部, 兼有瘦肥兩種肉質, 中間一團小脂肪, 所以Rib-eye也是有此意思. 脂肪多的肉, 適宜炭燒, 油份多, 味道較香. 半熟以下最佳.

當大家已經嚼在口中時, 我仍斷續奉行相機先食原則, 取了一件四正長方的肉身, 再放上一塊厚切的磨菇, 淋上廚師預備的紅酒汁, 好滿意的賣相...  自我陶醉一番後, 終於可以放入口了....哈哈... 唔...唔...  肉味沉厚, 細嫩可口又不失牛肉質感的咬勁,  好正!

到了第三款澳洲出品的啤酒: MOUNTAIN GOAT IPA ($64). 酒精度: 6.2%. 這枝啤酒的特色是運用原始自然方法來釀製, 連釀造的生果和酒花, 都沒有任何精製化學材料, 就即是一般所講的"有機製造". 上檯倒入杯時, 已隱隱聞到了蜜糖和檸檬味, 但飲落是原全另一種感覺, 甜味反而不重, 入口順滑, 有一種焦麥味的餘香.

最後落單的豬肋骨配薯條 ($498), 單看價格可能會覺得略為偏貴, 但只要看到侍應放上檯的一刻, 便會立即改變想法, 那件比男士手臂還要長要大的豬肋骨, 嚇得細食的女士們"嘩"了一聲.... 肋骨有分baby ribs 與 spare ribs, 此店供應的是baby ribs, baby ribs 是豬背脊向天位置, 呈彎曲狀, 因背脊少活動, 肉質也特別幼嫩. 而 spare ribs 是指 baby ribs 向下伸延至豬胸位置, 雖然不及baby ribs的嫩滑, 但相對豬肉味較重.

豬肋骨的吃法與牛排不同, 火烤牛排, 只需加些少海盬, 已是人間美食, 而豬肋骨的魅力是其濃烈的烤醬, 上檯時已經聞到那陣陣的香味. 手起刀落, 準確切開那骨與骨中間的位置, 每人起碼可以分到三件. 用手拿骨尾部份, 入口咬開肉與骨, 肉質軟淋不鞋口, 外層烤醬甜中帶些微的香辣,  如果選得近頭尾位置, 還咬到少許軟骨部份, 又嚼勁又惹味.

大家吃得很飽, 離開時, 街道還有很多人, 餐廳門口也坐了幾位外藉顧客, 如果天氣不熱, 我也十分喜歡這種街頭座位, 晚間清風吹來, 一邊飲著啤酒, 一邊與朋友吹水, 感覺十分舒暢...., 不過, 近來天氣熱得我就快痴線了, 睇怕秋天來臨前, 我都只好揀室內位置....

卡真牛油煎嫩蝦($148)---富有濃郁的牛油香的蝦肉,蝦肉仍然爽口彈牙,可是沒有預期到到蝦肉是帶辣,而且辣味有點過重,麵包方面都烘得香脆,如有一些汁醬去伴食會較好一些,因為味道都幾單調。

大蜆車厘茄意粉($168)----大蜆大大隻,而且它保留了鮮甜的原味,而且是廚師每天到街市購買的即日鮮,蜆肉厚肉大隻,一咬都知道是新鮮大蜆,選用了車厘茄烹煮意粉,有點嫌不夠蕃茄的濃郁,
可讚是意粉真是煮到有Al dente 的彈牙口感,不太軟又耐嚼,可見廚師的烹調功夫都好厲害。

招牌豬肋骨配薯條($498)---它是店中的招牌熱賣菜式,店員更透露它以十多種香草醃一晚,再以低溫烤焗足3小時,才保住肉質的細嫩及鎖緊肉汁,再塗上燒烤汁醬在豬肋骨上,再以高溫略燒,豬肋骨吸盡燒烤醬汁,一上枱已經散發了香惹的肉香,輕輕再用餐刀一切,骨與肉之間也容易切開,肉質真是好嫩口,味道甜香很惹味,再品嚐旁邊的即炸薯角,真是令人欲罷不能。

炭燒智利鱸魚配大蜆($268)
---先把大蜆放入口中,一咬開已經知道不是冷藏的蜆肉,店員更透露廚師每天都會去街市購買即日鮮,蜆肉果然是肉身肥美又彈牙,新鮮的蜆肉已感到海水的鮮美。另外鱸魚扒用上重達十多公斤的鱸魚切塊而成,以火山石炭燒而成,魚味非常濃郁有焦香,嫩滑的魚肉除了帶點牛油香,而且在魚肉中滲出了檸檬的清香,肉質都好鮮甜,沒有藉口不愛上吃了!!

烤焗走地雞($248)
----用上新鮮走地雞入饌,走地雞因為經常走動,所以雞肉的質地較結實而少脂肪,食落的口感有嚼勁,它再經以高溫鹽焗去處理,令到雞皮烤至非常薄脆又香,細味一啖雞肉,啖啖肉又有肉汁,感到雞肉很嫩滑而且肉味濃郁,有驚喜值得一試。

最後也是最出色的,呀文之前為我們聚舊, 先訂了一客招牌豬肋骨配薯條,豬肋骨的份量很大,熱辣辣的送上,原來豬肋骨用十多種香草醃一晚,再抹上BBQ醬以低温攝氏一百度,焗足三小時,肉質鮮甜,入口軟軟的,不得不讚!
整個晚上我們六戰士都在回憶大學時的趣事和談論工作的抱負和期望! 我們邊喝啤酒,邊吃小食,好像時光倒流回到那些年,我們一起走過的日子!

在Blue Monday的第二天,心情十分平穩,因為「只要再過多四天就有假期了」,每個星期二都抱著同一個心態上班,人就自然有動力啦~(雖然這未必奏效,因為工作十分繁重,總算是點點安慰罷了=3=)...但不打緊,下班以後相約一班好友放鬆一下就是最開心的事啦~今次來到位於西營盤的Granville Island,這是....因為好友在這邊上班,說一直都很想試試這家餐廳。反正對於愛吃之人來說:「吃到好吃的,哪管餐廳在西環還是荃灣」。那就應她的意思來到這裡啦~剛坐低就被牆上的啤酒所吸引住,一排又一排的整齊排列著,而且很多都是市面上沒有的。這是因為這家餐廳的老闆本來就是愛酒之人,所以從世界各地引入不同的酒品~ (好奇的我又走去跟餐廳老闆聊東聊西的....好友們好像都已經見怪不怪了=3=)還有這放得高高的酒品~也是十分吸引眼球的啦~!!炸甘薯薯條 ($78)甘薯薯條很厚很大條,端上台面時還熱熱的,入口時外層十分香脆,而且炸至表面十分乾身,丁點油膩感也沒有,而且口感很豐富的,甜甜的,即使不用加上任何醬料也很好吃~用作佐酒小食真一流~!!卡真牛油煎嫩蝦 ($148)先要說說拌碟的那塊麵包,十分香脆,放

炸甘薯薯條 ($78)

甘薯薯條很厚很大條,端上台面時還熱熱的,入口時外層十分香脆,而且炸至表面十分乾身,丁點油膩感也沒有,而且口感很豐富的,甜甜的,即使不用加上任何醬料也很好吃~用作佐酒小食真一流~!!

卡真牛油煎嫩蝦 ($148)

先要說說拌碟的那塊麵包,十分香脆,放涼以後依然鬆脆,蒜蓉味也蠻香的,但又未至於會過多過漏,十分討好。蝦又夠嫩,十分新鮮的,肉質還十分彈牙呢~!!

大蜆車厘茄意粉 ($168)

大蜆也蠻新鮮的,而且吸收了車厘茄那甜甜的味道,一吃便會愛上。另外,這個意粉口感帶點點煙韌的。很少會吃到這個口感的意粉,但我喜歡。意粉並沒有相像般入味,但淡淡的甜味,也不賴~

我自己也問過自己,為何市面上有如此多「蜆跟意粉跟車厘茄」的配搭,為何我要選這家餐廳的這一道菜呢?原因...我想通了,因為這道菜是以清淡之餘取勝,加上車厘茄用上相對甜的品種,而意粉的煙韌口感也是十分獨特的。這三點加起來,取勝之處很易吃得出啦~

炭燒智利鱸魚配大蜆 ($268)

平日愛吃煎鱸魚的朋友,一定要試試這道菜。因為它是以火山石燒成。鱸魚本身的肉質並不算最滑的,而很多餐廳也選擇到相對嫩的鱸魚,但要做到鱸魚肉Juicy的餐廳並不多,這是其中一間。更特別的,是這裡烹調的鱸魚咬落去的時候,感到肉質十分彈牙可口,加上點點的牛油跟檸檬香,令人吃不停口的~

初時看到價錢$268,但呈到台面上的卻是小小的一碟,感覺好像不化算似的,但當吃過第一口以後,就會發現這個價錢是物有所值的了~!!!

烤焗走地雞 ($248)

認識我的朋友都知道我喜歡吃雞,尤其是「鞋雞」,不要再問原因啦,我就是喜歡~但....這雞...的雞胸也不是想像般「鞋口」的啦,滑溜之餘也十分鹹香。雞油在焗的過程中都已經去除得8899,留在雞隻中的只有香氣~!!!

不得不提的是拌碟的忌廉薯仔,既香且滑,令人愛不釋口;還有西蘭花,那股鹽焗的香氣叫人喜歡~

招牌豬肋骨配薯條 ($498)

豬肋骨是店主用上十多種香草‬醃一晚,再以低溫烤焗‬三小時。‎豬肋骨的肉算很多啦,而且很厚肉,每一口均是十分稔身的,加上燒烤汁以後‬,令整道菜變更惹味的。另外,厚切‎薯條‬的口感十分豐富,可以加點點燒烤汁一起食用,更添美味。

不得不提的是拌碟的沙律,吃得肉多自然就會吃一點沙律,一吃就把口中的味道清除,淨下點點酸酸甜甜的味道,十分清新呢~!!用作Refresh口腔就十分一流啦~!!

其實一班好友下班以後,有時候想要喝點酒來放鬆一下的。今次我們就點了Beer Platter~沒記錯價錢好像是大概$220。這是店主大大力推介的酒品來的,是店主定期精選五種不同口感手工啤,由淡味飲至濃味,一飲而盡,每一個味道都很特別,好像每一個味道都在感受人生的每一個階段似的。不知怎地,人愈大,感受愈深的啦。所以說,飲酒的人未必是甚麼「蒲精」,而是喜歡以酒去細味人生的每一個階段。

The clam chowder tasted a bit weird, although the clams themselves were rather juicy. Whoever works in the kitchen for this restaurant that makes this clam chowder: I salute you for making great clams (okay, maybe I am a bit biased as clams are my favourite food), but you really need to improve the taste of the soup.

Steak came last. I ordered medium rare, and got what I asked for. The steak even had some complimentary chips on the side, which I appreciated. The chef even personally came out to ask me about my steak, and I told him exactly what I thought (in a positive way, haha!)

For dessert, we decided to have the apple crumble. When it came out, my wife and I were delighted, as it was a) not too hot, just the right temperature to eat and b) tasted absolutely delightful. The service was great, and I look forward to coming back to eat more in the future.

Went there tonight for the 1st time to celebrate a few birthdays and I was pleasantly surprised at how cosy but comfortable the atmosphere was.  There was already a few parties going on, but when we got seated, we were quickly served.  The chap at the bar was extremely helpful with helping a few (indecisive) girls choose from their generous option of interesting alcoholic drinks and the waiter also took the time explaining to us the different types of home grown beers they have which i have neve

Went there tonight for the 1st time to celebrate a few birthdays and I was pleasantly surprised at how cosy but comfortable the atmosphere was.  There was already a few parties going on, but when we got seated, we were quickly served.  The chap at the bar was extremely helpful with helping a few (indecisive) girls choose from their generous option of interesting alcoholic drinks and the waiter also took the time explaining to us the different types of home grown beers they have which i have never heard of!

For starters we ordered clams, buffalo wings and calamari.  Everything was served piping hot (there's nothing worse than receiving cold food when you're really hungry) and it was delicious, and I especially enjoyed the juicy buffalo wings. 

For mains, we near enough ordered the whole menu - from pizza to pasta, ribs to burger to roast chicken and again, everything was piping hot when served.  My favourite was their burger which I found was juicy and meaty.  Everything else was nicely presented.  

I would definitely come back again, the atmosphere was great and the staff was really friendly.   

Would love to see a wider selection of desserts on the menu though so we don't have to go elsewhere after!

Gentrifying can be good (for people who are wealthy enough to withstand it)-- a wider variety of restaurants for instance. But it can also mean that good, cheap local places are replaced with overpriced, terrible places. Like Jaspas. We started with the calamari. They were nicely hot and crisp, and in really big pieces. The squid was very firm but not rubbery. I like a lighter batter for squid, and some tentacles when I can get them. These were OK though: C+.

The menu is pretty focused on meat things, and GI bills itself as a steakhouse, so I guess that makes sense. I decided to play it simple and just go for the burger. When will I ever learn? Here are two rules that I take to be Best Practices when it comes to burgermongering:

Rule 1. If you will put a topping or sauce on the burger, say so on the menu.
Rule 2. Don't put toppings or sauces on a burger, if you can serve them on the side.

Both these rules are about choice. If a restaurant follows Rule 1, customers don't have to worry about unwanted and unexpected ingredients showing up in their burgers. If it follows Rule 2, customers have more say in what ingredients in what amounts appear on their burger. These Best Practices are followed by any non-fast-food burger restaurnat in America.

The description of the burger on the menu at GI does not say that it has cheese on it (!). I asked for cheese to be added and they said it already comes with cheese. I think that's something the customer should know. But that's fine, I wanted cheese. The menu also does not say that both buns (top and bottom) are completely slathered in this gross Hong Kong thousand island sauce.

I used every napkin at the table to wipe off as much of the stuff as I could, but so much of it was still soaked in the bun. I ate about half my burger. The patty was pretty tasty and nicely seasoned, and the cheese was bold and not unnecessary like so many tasteless cheeses one encounters on burgers. But I can't say I enjoyed it, and I don't think it was my fault that I didn't enjoy it. This place has not implemented Best Burger Practices. Poor: D.

Fries: the fries were pretty good. I liked the smaller fries (they were cut in highly variable shapes), as the larger ones were less crispy and a little too fluffy inside. Fair: B-.

My other two dining companions each got the rack of lamb. Each of them ate every last scrap of lamb, even though it was a lot of food. "Simply seasoned, nicely cooked" said my wife. She liked the veggies it came with, but for one exception. The mashed potatoes were universally reviled. They were at once gluey and clumpy, which is a hard effect to achieve. Whoever is working in the back probably only knows what mashed potatoes are in theory. My wife gives the meal as a whole a B.

My considered opinion of this place is that the food is around B-. But there are a few other things to consider. First, I had a bad experience myself, though were I to go back and order the burger knowing what I know now, it would probably be a lot better. Second, the reason I had a bad experience was not my fault: it was a misleading menu and the restaurant's dubious assumption that everyone wants 1/3 cup thousand island sauce on their burger.

But bigger than that, I thought the service was bad. They were a little pushy about the appetizers (it's not their business to tell me what I want). They never asked how the food was, even though they saw me scraping the sauce off the bun. In fact, they saw everything, because some creepy manager was standing in the middle of the restaurant the whole time staring at everyone. I had a meal I didn't like and I didn't feel comfortable the whole time. I guess I'll go with C-

We were just walking down High st. looking for a place to eat after 10PM, and to our dismay most of the places we wanted to go to were closed so we just went into the first place we could find open.  We had walked by Granville many times but it only just opened and the staff were friendly and welcoming (and they were open until 11!) so we just tried it. Totally did not expect how DELICIOUS the food would be!  The menu is quite big and has a mix of American comfort food and standard continental (

Totally did not expect how DELICIOUS the food would be!  The menu is quite big and has a mix of American comfort food and standard continental (burgers, steak, ribs, fried things, pasta, salad, soup, appetizers, etc.). So we just sat down - two of us shared: buffalo wings, tomato basil pasta and the half-rack of ribs.

Buffalo Wings = awesome; tangy sweet sauce with a crispy breading outside as well - best I've had in HK in 6 years
Pasta = very respectcable; simple, flavorful and a lighter option for those avoiding food that's too comforting
Ribs = fantastic; didn't even need a knife just came off the bone with the fork - nice and fatty and juicy, great sauce and flavor - probably one of the best I've had in HK as well

Service was very friendly and fast.

Great selection of craft beer as well.

Will definitey come back.

Only criticism: the pictures of the food on their menu and outside make it look kind of cheap
