I went the other night with a group of my friends (5 at first for a party of 8... this detail will be relevant later). We got a four-person table squeezed in with stools on jazz night. My friends and I were initially quite impressed with the intention and thought in the entire interior. They definitely liked the Kingsman-esque umbrella lever entrance most.I ordered the Rosalee and the Bouquet en Lavande. I enjoyed drinking both, even though I don't have much of a sweet tooth. I ordered the Rosalee and the Bouquet en Lavande. I enjoyed drinking both, even though I don't have much of a sweet tooth. Rosalee's rose flavors didn't translate that well in taste, only in the crushed rose petals garnish. Bouquet en Lavande I appreciated the most for its combination of blackcurrant gin with lavender foam. It didn't have a strong "candle-like" lavender flavor that a lot of cocktails tend to have. Foxglove's had a hint of coconut cream as well. They were both some of the better cocktails I've had in Hong Kong but can use a little more depth in flavor.
The pleasant experience from their drinks was ruined later in the night, though. The jazz act was not receptive to patrons speaking at a somewhat normal level during her set, and it made talking with my friends quite difficult. Then, wait staff came by two/three times more than an hour into our seating, a little pressingly asking if we were going to order more drinks. When we said no, because honestly, my friends are not big drinkers and we just wanted to talk with a drink or two, the manager/senior waitress (?) came to inform us about a minimum charge $300 per person. I generally would not mind one, but usually these are also things informed at time of seating. That somewhat shady way of introducing the minimum charge bothered me quite a bit, especially because it was after the kitchen closed for their dinner menu offerings. My friends managed to get a few more drinks but we still had to stuff up that bill with some fries and calamari, but at a place like Foxglove, that's dumb. To close the night off even better, paying our bill took 20 minutes only to have them say they couldn't take card at the time. I hope this was just a bad night with management, but it definitely dampened what really could've been a good experience. Definitely 2/5 in terms of service with respect to the odd way of introducing the min, but not towards the waitstaff. They were great.
