I really wanted to get out of the office after a long and hectic morning, so I decided to meet up with a few friends and enjoy a nice (extravagant) lunch. There were two set  lunches to choose from 1) $118 for a main entree pasta dish plus salad buffet, OR 2) the $128 pizza plus salad buffet. For just the salad buffet alone, it costed $98 but that didn't seem like the best deal in the world when you can get an extra entree for just $20 more. (Overall a lunch over $100 is pricy for me on a weekday, but sometimes you just have to treat yourself to something nice)

I was so excited when I saw the salad buffet because I was starving! There were around 7-8 choices and they were constantly being refilled at a pretty decent speed. The servers were exceptionally nice (althought I might say, a bit slow but I'm alright with that in this environment).

The first thing I attacked was the foccacia with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It was crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside infused with rosemary and spices. Absolutely gorgeous (espeically when I'm a super a carb lover)

I personally loved the spinach salad and chick pea even though they weren't the top picks from the look of the other patrons (I could tell because their salad buffet plates didn't really need refilling)
It was flavorful and very traditional Italian cuisine created with lots of herbs and natural flavours.

Of course, the proscuitto, smoked ham, and salami was the star of the buffet! When it was served at the buffet bar, the whole plate disappears within 5 minutes, but luckily for me, the servers replenished it fairly quickly. I mean if you ask me, who doesn't like proscuitto?
Fettuccine Pesto Genovese

My friend ordered the Fettuccine Pesto Genovese and honestly it's one of my favorite dishes out of the whole meal. The pesto was shockingly rich and aromatic with just enough olive oil to make the whole dish creamy. I didn't know what my friend thought at the time, but I think he wasn't too happy while I kept stealing his pasta when he wasn't looking

My other friend ordered the Pappardelle Wagyu Bolognese and it was a very saucy dish. My friend really enjoyed it because it had a lot of bolognese sauce where she can dip her foccacia into, and I thought it was very fresh and vibrant. Not a bad choice for lunch

Unfortunately, I wanted to taste something different (even though I really wanted the Pesto) so I ordered the Rigatoni all'Amatriciana. Was I fully disappointed--I just couldn't understand why this dish was so blend and dull in comparison to the other two yummy pastas. Mainly, it tasted like canned tomato sauce poured on top of rigatoni pasta with a sprinkle of parmesan--that's it--I couldn't even taste salt or pepper. Definitely a deal breaker for me


Overall, even though my pasta wasn't the best, I really filled myself up with the hams and salad buffet and I was stuffed to the max. The meal came with a tea or coffee and I was so stuffed I couldn't even drink it. So, if you're really hungry, have some extra cash to spend, and looking for a nice place to chill for a (fairly) long lunch, give this restaurant a try--the food is alright, but you're basically paying for the atmosphere.

Being thirsty, I absentmindedly ordered still water. Don't do that; at $70 it's half the cost of the lunch itself.

I'd recommend just skipping this; there's enough food in the lunch set that this just takes up room in your stomach, and it hasn't got much taste to it anyway. C

The salad has anchovies, hard boiled eggs, croutons, parmesan, and romaine. I found that they went completely overboard with the dressing, and it wound up being overly creamy and hard to eat. I like a light touch on my salads; this was a heavy, heavy first course. Get something else. C+

I got the diavolo with spicy salami. The pizza itself was decent. The way it's cooked, the crust in the middle is soggy and more or less uncooked. The slices can't be eaten by hand until you've consumed or removed the floppy soggy parts in the middle. I haven't been to Italy, so maybe that's how they like it-- I myself could live without. The cooked part of the pizza is pretty good, and the salami is surprisingly spicy. Not overwhelming or anything, but spicy as advertized, which is rare. The toppings have a tendency to come of en masse; they can't really be cooked into the dough if the dough itself isn't cooked. B-

My total wound up being something ridiculous like $310 for lunch, when you add in the still water ($70), a beer ($58), and the service charge. I guess I technically have that sort of disposable income, but I'm not sure this is the best way to dispose of it. The place is nice and all, it's just nothing special, not considering the $$$.

After hearing a rave review from a friend I decided to revisit 208 after having not been for nearly a year due to a slighlty disappointing last meal there. We had originally booked a table at the restaurant upstairs, but after having one pre dinner drink at the bar downstairs we decided to stay there, as the atmosphere was more relaxed and friendly which was exactly what we were in the mood for.

The smiley manager took our first drink orders and was very helpful in helping us choose which cocktail to go for. I ended up going for the classic mojito whilst my friend had a fruity cocktail which the bartender made specially for her!

We were ravenous after a long day hiking so decided to first share a pizza between us as a starter
.The waiter recommended that we try the special pizza of the month which I believe was topped with asparagus, speck and some type of soft italian cheese so we went for that option. We waited for the pizza slightly longer then we would have liked to but once it arrived it was well worth the wait! perfect napoletan style pizza base with plenty of delish toppings!

Next we had an asparagus risotto and steak and prosecco potatoes (piggies!) The asparagus risotto was packed full of flavour although my friend said that she found the rice a little too hard.. I personally thought it was just right
The steak and potatoes however was by far the best part.. the steak was cooked just how I like it and the potatoes were SO good. I don't know if it's that the potatoes reminded me of the ones my mum cooks at home but in my eyes they were perfection! just the right amount of crunchy, garlicky, goodness


The only part of the meal which we were slightly dissapointed by was the dessert. We chose the passionfruit sorbet but found that it was slightly crystallised which was not ideal texture wise.

Overall we really enjoyed our dinner at 208. great food. great service and a relaxed and chilled out atmosphere! which is just what one wants on a saturday evening.

It was sent back. When the correct dish arrived it was cold and had obviously not been recently prepared. We sent this back, too. Also in the order - tuna steak, which was not cooked to order (we requested medium, it came rare). After such a long wait, we didn't complain about this at the restaurant. The pizza looked nice. Considering the high price tag it wasn't a positive experience.

The BEST dish of the night was the steak. Surprisingly this was the best executed dish. The steak's quality was prime, rubbed down with all that heavenly seasoning topped with the strong sweet hint of charcoal grill. One can only assume that the Florentine Steak (for 2-3 to share) would be if not equally as good, better than its precedent!

Dessert:

The dessert was rather average I must say.. The hazelnut cake just tasted like the usual chocolate molten cake but minus the melted centre.

In conclusion, 208 is lovely for a casual dinner with friends, the setting and ambience is exemplary. And if you go, go for the steak! You won't be disappointed.

It's been a few years and I nearly forgot I was the 1st person to post about here back during the days, as I was too curious to visit here. But things have changed gradully and after various visits later and some of the intermittent visits are reviewed on my blog separately, we returned back again to experience their 2012 December special pizzas (There are two different ones) !. $208 for 2 Beers and a December Pizza -It's a good Bargain of a deal actually! Neapolitan/Napoletana Style Pizza with Goats Cheese Stracchino with Rolled Pancetta, Fennel Seeds and Chili Oil -
The Goats cheese flavour was quite over-powering and also really salty, the fennel seeds were quite in your face punchy. The Pancetta ham was also rather salty but nicely crisped up. The tomato base as explained during previous intermittent reviews has changed from it's beginning of a sweeter and pinker San Marzano Tomatoes base. Nowadays it is much more Tomato Paste sour.. Yikes! I know Chefs and Restaurants don't really like hearing honest feedback and I don't want to force them into listening either. I happen to know some chefs who hate bloggers, yet guesswhat? We as customers pay their wages.
The Pizza Dough base was also not very wheaty or wood-fired aromatic in taste.. Ummm. Kind of disappointed in this aspect.

I still remember when I 1st visited 208 Duecento Otto, I didn't even noticed that they were trying to make a Naples style pizza at all as it didn't really looked like one. In this aspect, this is much better today!!!!
Nowadays it has improved in certain areas, it even looks more charred by default and all bubbly!!
But still it was kind of missing that right crust texture and taste, it was too limpy and too thin in the middle of the hand tossed dough base. And the tomato sauce base has gone from being one extreme to another, going from too sweet to being all so sour extreme nowadays.

Merry X'Mas -
This is one of the most promising Pizzerias in HK. But it probably ends at that. It's about time they finally listen to criticism and improve, and stop treating customers like ignorant Dumb s when it is precisely the other way around! We are putting money into your pockets...

We went to the restaurant on a sunday afternoon, notice that only half of the table were occupied, standing there for at least 5 mins, and still no one approach us. And until a waitress tell us to sit down at a table, after 10seconds a manager came by n tell us the table were all reserved n assign us to sit on the bar table...that waiter told the manager that we sit there by ourselves.... Can't believe their service was that bad before we gave up at this restaurant!!!

I am Italian so I found this restaurant asking google for "the best italian pizzeria in HK" in Italian.

I went with my wife without reservation and the place was quite busy, so we sat at the counter. We had a platter of capocollo (it's a sort of salami made with pork neck) with olive taggiasche and buffalo mozzarella, with a couple of glasses of italian wine. Then we had a pizza with fennel and porchetta. Pizza style is typical of southern Italy, i.e. a bit tall, crispy outside and tender, a bit wet in the inside.

On the overall our experience has been just great: food is real Italian 100%. Pizza is amazing, but also the rest (affettati, cured hams, mozzarella, pastiera napoletana etc.) are really, really good. You can tell it since you enter the place when you realize that most waiters and the majority of customers are Italians...

Since they couldn't give us a table, they didn't make us pay for a round of drinks. However, I have to say that even sitting at the counter is not bad at all. The place is quite noisy with big tables a people sitting side by side, so probably it doesn't really matter if you stay at the counter or table. Perhaps it's even better at the counter so you can give your orders directly to the bartender


I can't really understand the reason of some bad comments I read on this website. Either they refer to the past when perhaps there may have been a different owner (?), or simply the people who commented are maybe used to the pizza they eat at the american chains?

Anyway: 10 our of 10, said by an Italian who lives in HK. I have been living in several cities (Tokyo, Sydney, etc) but this is by far the best pizza I had outside Italy...

We were seated immediately on the ground floor and were looking forward to a proper dinner. The service was friendly but was quite inadequate. The real problem was when the main dishses arrived and we all wondered whether they were appetizers for some other table! The portions were just ludicrously small. Two of us ordered the gnocchi and you could literally count how many were on the plate just by a quick glance. We asked the servers to explain what's going on and they took the dishes back and added another 10 little pieces or so on but compared to any other normal restaurant, it was still pitiful. Besides the portions, the food was just really mediocre. So it doesn't give any compensation either.

Would really avoid this overpriced, under-served place! What a shame it used to be quite decent and helped change the food landscape in the area...

Burrata既為fresh cheese,好味與否都是來貨問題,非廚師手藝之故。暫時食過最令我滿意的是whisk的出品,這天我的運氣就一般了。Burrata味道和香氣都不俗,但入口不夠軟滑,水份不充足,應該是因為非當日來貨吧~

接下來是這店的名物—Napoletana Pizza。我們試的是DOC pizza,pizza crust 有足夠的氣泡,中間略嫌濕了點,依傳統食法,對摺而食的話,橄欖油和蕃茄汁自pizza流到手腕,有點狼狽。質地很對辦,厚度依足規格3mm,煙韌之餘,充滿麵粉香氣,很好食。DOC pizza,和Margarita剛好相反,是芝士置底,上面再放蕃茄。如此一來,芝味更濃郁迷人,食起來更滿足。

Calzone的外皮質感和pizza一樣,煙韌又帶濕潤,刀鋒一劃,內裡的芝士煙肉香得不得了,餡料咸香度恰到好處,半溶的芝士何時都具殺傷力,加上煙韌的外皮,熱辣辣的,甚為惹味。

食意大利菜,怎少得意大利酒?食友都不好紅酒,我只好點了杯Tuscany 的Morellino di Scansano DOCG。Tannin很順滑,中度酒體,帶黑莓的味道,我這門外漢就只能嚐到此了,個人覺得挺不錯的。

除了pizza,還試了這裡的牛肉批和gnocchi。切開牛肉批香噴噴的酥皮,便是燉牛肉,牛肉軟腍,輕易就能用叉切開,火喉控制得宜,湯汁清甜,很有家的味道。

Gnocchi更是做得出色,彈牙十足,QQ的有點似麻糬,蕃茄醬夠鮮甜,又落得慷慨,再加些basil和意大利腸,正是簡單而美味的意大利菜。

甜品時間,原本食得頗為滿足的我們,卻因其令人失望的服務而掃興。樓下只供應Nutella pizza和gelato,我們便點了4款口味gelato和1款sorbet,卻等了大半小時,甜品才上桌。
Gelato質感不似平素食的黏和軟,反而偏向似雪糕,其中最愛開心果口味,果仁味挺香,味道不造作。Sorbet質感和gelato差不多,尤幸酸勁十足,叫熱得不耐的食友精神一振。
食物和氣氛很適合放工後來放鬆下,為著其Pizza的緣故,我還是會再來的,希望屆時服務會好些吧~

之前有聽過208這間意大利餐廳, 剛巧有被邀請來試菜當晚其實很熱, 被安排到室外坐讓我們覺得很不舒服... 夏天來真的要坐裡面有冷氣的地方比較好先吃了意大利肉丸, 肉丸味道不錯, 有蠻濃的牛肉味肉質鬆軟. 醬汁裡的番茄酸味突出, 蠻好吃的之後來了前菜拼盤, 有酸豆, 個人覺得硬了一點. 魷魚也是有點硬, 但幸好味道不錯我自己很喜歡Marinated grilled vegetables with homemade ricotta, 南瓜片青瓜片都烤得夠香瓜類本身也有甜味, 配上ricotta很好吃, 不過ricotta能選軟滑一點就會比較好burrata, 味道不錯, 有奶味, 但不夠軟滑流心. 如果芝士流心的話就會很好, 因為味道真的很不錯旁邊的番茄很好吃呢, 鮮甜多汁, 跟burrata的味道很配. 不過如果再給多點番茄會更加好, 因為有點不夠配來吃八月份的推介薄餅是菌類薄餅, 這薄餅跟一般吃到的不同, 好像有兩層皮夾著中間的菇菌菌類的味道很吸引, 很香, 皮也做得很薄而不失韌度鬆軟度, 好吃Calzone Mozzarella, ricotta, mushrooms, black

之後來了前菜拼盤, 有酸豆, 個人覺得硬了一點. 魷魚也是有點硬, 但幸好味道不錯
我自己很喜歡Marinated grilled vegetables with homemade ricotta, 南瓜片青瓜片都烤得夠香
瓜類本身也有甜味, 配上ricotta很好吃, 不過ricotta能選軟滑一點就會比較好

旁邊的番茄很好吃呢, 鮮甜多汁, 跟burrata的味道很配. 不過如果再給多點番茄會更加好, 因為有點不夠配來吃

這個薄餅非常讚! 我非常愛它的批底, 不會太薄也不會厚, 有咬口也很鬆軟, 帶點韌性
非常喜歡番茄鮮甜多汁, 一個咬下去超滿足的. 芝士跟羅勒跟番茄的味道好配, 好吃!

等了四十分鐘才來gelato, 最好吃的檸檬, 感覺清新, 其他的味道就其實還好
最後來了latte蠻香濃的咖啡香氣, 奶泡也做得很綿滑

這家餐廳的薄餅真的做得十分出色, 好好吃! 其他的我就覺得一般
希望下次再來吃薄餅我可以坐有冷氣的地方吧

上個月來了208 Duecento Otto吃晚餐,試了菇菌為題的餐單,來到九月,餐廳推出了以無花果為主題的菜式。夏末秋初是無花果當造的時節,無花果有很高的營養價值,除了含有果糖,還有多種維他命及氨基酸,而且鮮甜多汁,對健康有益。這次午飯時間來,除了吃無花果菜式,也吃了Lunch的Antipasti Buffet,價錢是$98,如另加薄餅的則是$128。說起這裡的薄餅,原來用來焗製薄餅的爐,也是從意大利買磚再運來香港砌建而成。而大家對Naples Pizza又有多少認識呢?傳統的那不勒斯薄餅是需要跟從特定的準則,從材料開始要用硬質小麥粉、新鮮酵母、海鹽、Campania的水牛奶芝士及Vesuvius的番茄,而餅糰必須人手搓製,並用柴火烤烘。焗出來的薄餅,邊位帶點脤起,會厚身一點,但不會太難咀嚼。薄餅底不要太厚或太薄,要微軟及微脆,不要過分煙韌,稍用力便可以用刀或叉分開就最好。而當薄餅摺起時,餅底又不會乾脆得裂開,要有一定濕度。前菜頭盤先是自家焗製的麵包,表面帶點微脆,吃下有點油份。烤紅黃椒、蕃茄及手牛芝士我較喜愛的,蕃茄特別鮮甜多汁,用來跟芝士吃最好。還有洋蔥魷魚沙律、芝士扁豆、煙肉薯

另外也多點一款薄餅,Margheita,Tomato Sauce、Mozzarella & Basil,酸甜的蕃茄醬,加上熱融的水牛芝士,以少許羅勒葉襯托,簡單的配搭,但味道已經好吃。不過相比起無花果那款薄餅,這個則較為軟身及太濕潤,薄餅底的烘烤時間可再多一點。

甜品先是以無花果為主的Fig Cake,蛋糕內有不少無花果肉,味道不會太甜。還有兩款自家製的雪糕,開心果及乳酪口味,前者果仁味道自然及濃烈,後者的乳酪味道不會太酸。

最後也有Warm Venchi Chocolate Pudding,Rhubarb Compote and Vanilla Ice Cream,$98。心太軟以小碗載著,面層蛋糕焗得微脆,內裡有大量的朱古力漿,質感稀稠,而且味道十分的甜,即使我已經常吃甜及吃得甜,也覺得這個味道過甜,若改以濃度較高的朱古力,甜度降低的話,相信比這個更好吃。

很耀眼的鮮紅色,全是酸甜的蕃茄醬,令人口水直流。調味只是簡單水牛芝士、羅勒及蕃茄,是很清新的感覺。

最後也有以無花果為主題的蛋糕,若你也愛無花果,不妨來「208」品嘗一下這滋味。

Calzone Mozzarella, ricotta, mushrooms, black pepper, porchetta ham。Calzone薄餅我還是第一次見到,之前都未曾接觸過或聽過這款薄餅,賣相很特別,我看到有台灣人把它稱做披薩餃和巨型餃子包,這些名字都形容 得很貼切。裡面的餡料有芝士、磨菇和火腿等等,黑椒味頗強烈,整體味道不錯,記得要多幾個人分享,否則就吃不下其他東西了。

Marinated grilled vegetables with homemade ricotta。什菜有紅、黃椒、青瓜和一些不知名的豆,另外還有紫洋蔥魷魚沙律,味道不錯。至於自家製的ricotta芝士味道較淡,入口還不夠幼滑。

Homemade roasted potato gnocchi with Italian sausage ragu, aged pecorino and pars。薯仔gnocchi,口感不錯,不會太軟也不會太硬,有少許軟Q的感覺。意大利香腸、芝士和蕃茄醬煮成的醬汁,味道濃郁,混合了少量蕃茄蓉,酸 甜度剛好。

夏天的日子還是建議大家訂座的時候要求坐在裡面,因為半露天的座位有少許熱,雖然有大風扇,但這個天氣還是坐冷氣地方胃口會好一點。

主菜Secondi點了Roasted Suckling Pig,Morel and Fava Bean Ragout,Potato & Garlic Anchovy Aioli,選了這裡的烤乳豬,皮炸得香脆可口,但肉身比較少,只得薄薄一層肉,而且沒有甚麼味道,比預期中欠一點水準。而配上了炒羊肚菌及蠶豆,羊肚菌味道鮮濃且入口香醇甘甜,用來配肉吃最好,把肉味更能呈配出來。也沒錯,乳豬跟羊肚菌一同吃味道會好吃點,但本身肉味也缺,所以都不太突出。Side dish是Broad Bean、Peas & Girolle Salad,雞油菌及青荳,雞油菌像是帶點杏甫的甜味。

甜品Dolci是Vanilla Panna Cotta Shroom with Chocolate,Almond Crumbs,Cocoa Powder,Mint & Expresso,奶凍質感挺實滑溜,奶味香濃帶甜,伴上像是菇片的朱古力片放面,還有大量忌廉及杏仁碎圍著,賣相十分吸引,跟上奶凍吃則多份香甜,甜品挺好吃。

這個特別的菇菌餐單,只在八月份內供應,喜愛吃的也要在這星期去吃。除了這餐單,餐廳其實還是主打拿不勒薄餅,薄餅焗爐更特別從意大利拿不勒斯訂購來港,希望把傳統的拿不勒斯薄餅帶給客人,可惜今天沒機會吃,下次再來試試。
