Me and the missus shared a pizza marinara at 148 dollars. It was big enough for the two of us to share. But it was very disappointing - soggy base, and the only topping other than tomato seemed to be anchovies. Yes, they're fish. But generally I'd expect a little more seafood on a marinara. The Pizza Hut could do better than that. One of our friends was from New York - I am glad she didn't sample the pizza.

The others got an antipasto platter which looked nice. Bread was yummy and the mozzarella cheese was delicious.

The unisex toilet was out of paper (and the floor covered in wee). Fortunately there were some paper towels so I wasn't caught short but I did end up with an itchy bum.

Would I come again? No. There are plenty of darkwood bar/restaurants with high prices for generally poor food and music so loud it's hard to hear. Most of them are closer to the escalator than this place. Save yourself the walk.

Chopped pizza dough with basil and a little olive oil. Turned stone-cold quickly, which I didn't appreciate. Texture wasn't exactly good either - way too chewy.

First Course
Salad of arugula and shaved parmigiano reggiano cheese, dressed in a balsamic vinaigrette with lots of pepper and salt.
The chefs were a little too heavy-handed on the salt, but otherwise a simple and stellar salad. The serving was quite large too, but most importantly the two main ingredients - leaves and cheese were very, very fresh. Couldn't and wouldn't ask for more!

My Second Course
Margherita
The first pizza came out with the center completely soft, clearly because the pizza sauce was too liquid. So I asked them to bake it slightly longer to which they agreed, but the waiter commented that this was how pizza napoletana is meant to be.... FYI no pizzas should ever be soggy.... yes they may be soft (as in the case of Neapolitan-type bases) or crunchy/crispy, but soggy? In the end they were unable to re-fire the first uneaten pizza and made a new one for me in the end. The second one was still quite soggy in the center, but slightly better and acceptable. They could use more torn basil for flavour, but otherwise a very ordinary and unimpressive margherita.

M's Second Course
Spaghetti with parma ham and bell peppers
Quite a small portion, and sauce was acceptable, thanks to the parma ham and adequate salt. Spaghetti was cooked al dente so it had a nice bite.

B's Second Course
Penne with Eggplant
This vegetarian pasta was definitely one of the blandest pastas I've tasted. The sauce was predominantly tasteless, and the oiliness of the sauce didn't help either. Eggplants, parmesan and basil did not impart adequate (if any) flavour....and the penne was a bit too chewy for me, could probably have used another minute or two in the hot water.

Third Course
A scoop of gelato of your choice
We picked saffron, green apple, raspberry.
The saffron was quite milky and although the saffron was not particularly strong it was quite enjoyable.
The raspberry was tart and had bits of rasperry pulp for texture which I didn't mind, but for the masses I think straining the mixture prior to churning would've been better.
The green apple sorbetto was my least favourite - despite the bits of green apple the icy sorbetto itself tasted a little artificial for me...

Despite the mediocre food, reservations are a must. This place was fully packed by 1pm, and was told they had a long wait-list for dinner time.

It surprises me reading complaints about the pizzas at 208 being soft or soggy. Anyone who knows anything about Napoletana pizzas knows that while they are crisp on the outside, the centre is MEANT to be soft. Watching this movie clip on Youtube made me head down immediately to 208 for Brunch - thank goodness they are now open on Sundays! With summer beach days over I plan to spend more weekends at 208 - it's more relaxed than weekdays and the brunch menu is completely different but thankfully the pizzas are on the brunch menu too as that was what I was craving for.
My friend went for the Eggs Benedict - poached eggs served with grilled mortadella, foccacia and hollandaise - unusual to have foccacia instead of the muffin and mortadella instead of ham, but he looked like he was enjoying it a whole lot.
I felt like tasting something sweet so we shared the Pancakes a la Siciliana which was delicious with a tangy blood orange syrup, mint and sweet ricotta.
The brunch cocktails and coolers looked great with some by the pitcher which would have been fun if we'd not had a heavy Saturday night so we opted for the 'Virgin' versions and coffees instead this time ....never mind, there's always next Sunday!

We have passed by that restaurant many times and it has a really nice entrance and it always seemed to be pretty packed. Therefore, my friends decided to pick that restaurant to celebrate 2 person's birthday!

7 of us order their signature dish- rib eye, 4 different pasta, a pizza, some appetizers, the chicken with citrus salsa, pork chop.

First of all the pizza took 2 hours to come which was after our main course and the main course replacement. Half the table was done with their main course where as the other half of us were still waiting.

Pastas were all bad, the rabbit pasta was all stuck together, I felt like I was eating a ravioli. The linguini vongole had no flavor to the pasta, the lobster pasta had a prawn size lobster and the spaghetti Bolognese was soggy. They said give them 8 mins to replace the pasta and it took them 35 mins.

Ordered rare for the rib eye and it came medium

Had to pour our wine ourselves, the thing is one time, he must have been an assistant manager or something, he was trying to change some plates and my friend reached back to grab the bottle of wine, he moved out of his way and then just walked away seeing him pour his own wine.

It was a chaos!!!

If you have no choice or can't convince your friends who booked it to change restaurant, stick with the chicken, that was the only decent thing we had.

When they asked if we wanted coffee or tea. My friend said an expresso, we said only if it will come within 5 minutes and that they were able to deliver. It came in 3 mins.

I really have no idea why is it busy!

I would like to say at the outset that my expectations were quite high. I was attracted 208 by its artistic exterior and rustic interior (adjectives interchangeable). Perhaps next time I should be careful about judging a book by its cover.

Reception:
We waited at the entrance for around 10 minutes. It was almost 12pm. The staff saw a herd of people waiting in the scorching summer sun. Somehow they were not minded to let us in, at least, and sit at their empty tables. Policy, perhaps. And when they finally opened the full-length glass doors, no one asked us whether we'd made a reservation, whether we desired to be seated, party of three? No. We charged in ourselves. Cluelessly.

Food:
Lunch sets are much more economical than the a-la-carte menu. My pockets have recently become extremely shallow, so I went for the:
$138 lunch set. [please see photo for details]
(1) An Arugula salad,
(2) mains (pizza or pasta)
(3) dessert (gelato of your choice - granny smith, raspberry, saffron...) and
(4) your choice of drink.

1.
Bread 'platter'

Chewy like pizza crust. Heavily seasoned with salt, garlic and some kind of herb. The herb did not come through very strong. It was quite salty too. And it became cold after 2 minutes, slightly disappointed when i had my first bite. But the edges were crisp, and I liked it. The edges weren't too salty.

2.
Arugula salad (with parmesan shavings, broken roasted garlic and aged balsamic vinegar)

True to its word. A very accurate description of what was actually served. Almost an entire BOX of arugula leaves, if you buy them from Taste/Citysuper, that's about what you get. MUCH more than what i'd expected but, on the downside, slightly excessive. Who would need that much arugula? But i have to admit that the dressing was splendid. Good thing was that arugula tastes less bitter than rocket, so there wasn't much of the unpleasant aftertaste you have on your tongue after consuming copious amounts of rocket leaves.
Still, next time, i dont' need that much.

3.
Linguini con Proscuitto - proscuitto, red peppers, crema and basil.

I enjoyed my pasta hugely. Al dente, the sauce wasn't too thick, and was well-seasoned. The bits of ham added the extra meatiness I enjoyed in my pastas. Not too much, just a little. The peppers were sweet and thinly sliced - easy to eat. I devoured the entire plate.

3b.
Margherita Pizza

G ordered this one. It was pretty but then G thought it was too soggy. Asked the waiter to put it in the oven and bake it for some more time. The waiter told us that it was how 208 served its pizzas - slightly soggy, italian style. (?!) Anyway. After 2 minutes another man came to us and told us the kitchen would rather make us another one than reheat the old one (it was already cut up). Interesting, and quite professional. I approved of that attitude, despite the fact that it was quite a waste. i hope the chefs shared that pizza amongst themselves
So, after 5 minutes, a freshly-baked pizza (this time, charred in quite a number of places) landed itself in front of G. We were pleased.

But I didn't really like the topping. Those who aren't very fond of red sauce should not order this for themselves. The pizza crust was quite tasty though. Thin, burnt, Mmm

3c.
Eggplant penne with parmesan shavings

Tried one mouthful. Did not really like it because it was quite bland. The dressing was quite oily and each penne was basically filled with oil...B had to press each piece with the back of the fork to remove the excess (flavorless) oil. Could've given us more eggplant. The parmesan shavings..i expected them to have a stronger flavour. I had expected it to be some kind of cream/cheese sauce but it turned out to be oil + parmesan shavings. So...you can imagine.

4
Gelato allsorts
- the 3 of us shared our gelatos, we ordered Saffron, granny smith and raspberry. If i had to choose again I'd pick saffron. But it's just because it had the creamiest texture amongst the 3. But it tasted more vanilla than saffron. Perhaps its' because saffron itself isn't very strong? That asides, I enjoyed Granny Smith. (i.e. green apple) I didn't really like the raspberry because there were seeds inside the gelato, which I bit into, and produced a highly unpleasant roughness inside my oral cavity. Nuh-uh.

Service:
Friendly staff upstairs, who showed me to the bathroom and held the door for me.
Eager to satisfy customers and chit chat a bit when they came round to take our orders and set the table.

Conclusion:
Will not be back again for some time. Other places are more worth my money. But I wouldn't mind coming back for a drink or two. Or with parents. Ha-ha-ha.

Despite having an inordinate love for food, writing restaurant reviews is something I normally do. However, I'm making an exception this time simply because the negative reviews below have not done any justice to this restaurant.

208 has been barely open for a few months, so I wasn't expecting it to run like clockwork from the start, and I was prepared to overlook things like tardy service or cold food. But not only did 208 exceed my expectations, my dining experience at this hip New York style trattoria actually turned out to be rather enjoyable after all.

Having been lucky enough to have just returned from Naples two months ago, I can assert with confidence that the calzone, prosciutto e rucola and D.O.C I had here all looked and tasted authentic - not far from the ones I had savoured in Italy. The absolute key to pizza Napoletana is the oven and the ingredients. Having a good oven is half way to success, and there's no doubt that the Neapolitan built, wood-fired brick oven at 208 could churn out wonderfully flame-kissed pizzas with a faint, smokey aroma and an excellent cornicione that is slightly crispy, yet satisfactorily chewy. Beautifully speckled with dark brown blisters and adorned by their toppings, the pizzas were a pleasure to eat, with the only "downside" being their significant tip sag - though I didn't mind the steaming hot, juice-soaked dough at all.

The cherry tomatoes on the D.O.C were particularly noteworthy. Those small ruby-red fruits were packed with intense flavours and had a great balance of sweetness and tartness, unlike the ones that I had consumed in many other Italian restaurants. The fresh sweet basil leaves had a pronounced earthy scent that cut through the exquisitely melted mozzarella di bufala, giving a light accent to the delectable disc-shaped bread.

The lower dining room at 208 also offers a good selection of antipasti and salumi, but they were helplessly overshadowed by the pizzas. Don't get me wrong though; I did enjoy every morsel on the antipasti platter and the salumi platter, especially the milky mozzarella di bufala, which was stringy to the bite and had a mild yet lasting taste. And if you still have room for a gelati after all that carbs, I'd urge you to try the saffron one if you're adventurous and love the subtle saffron sweetness like moi.

Service might've been on the slow side overall, but it did speed up towards the middle of the meal and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Ordering tap water was not being frowned upon and refills were frequent enough. This place is really for those who understands Italian food and enjoys it as it is. There's no doubt that I would return, and if I do I'll be sure to try the pasta and rubbed ribeye upstairs too.

P.S. The price included a bottle of house red.

First of all...all the people complaining about the pizza probably have NO idea what Neapolitan pizza actually is. I lived in Italy for 2 years and have been waiting for a place like this to come along. This is classic Neapolitan style pizza - crispy but chewy crust with simple toppings. Delicious.

Now in terms of the whole experience... Came with 2 friends for dinner (Yes the reservation system isn't great, but that's what it's like with a busy restaurant people! Have you ever actually tried getting a reservation at a nice restaurant before - like Babbo where the chef is from - it can take weeks!)

A very sweet tall blond seated us. I think she was the manager and was totally welcoming and friendly. The service throughout was attentive but not overbearing. We received our wine quickly and also some crispy bread...mmm great start.

Then we ordered:
- Pomodori Uovo: absolutely delicious, we were licking the bowl
- D.O.C pizza: as I mentioned, perfect Neapolitan style, great ingredients
- Fazzoletti Bolognese Blanco: I've never been a huge fan of rabbit, but this dish was amazing. Braisy rabbit with crispy pancetta in a delicious creamy sauce
- Dry Rubbed Ribeye: MMM seasoned and cooked perfectly medium rare with potatoes and aioli...can't go wrong
- Bomboloni and Roasted Figs for dessert: both delicious and turns out that the executive chef is also the pastry chef!

The chef, Vinny, also came by during the meal and gave us the background to a few of the dishes we were raving about. It was great to speak with him, and you can really see the passion behind the food...made the meal even better.

I can't wait to go back - fingers crossed that I can get a table!

I had a great experience at 208! Seated quickly, staff was helpful with wine suggestions, the antipasti (panzanella and prawns) was fresh and tasty, pizza (diavola and prosciutto & arugula) had good Neapolitan-style crust and quality toppings.A bit pricier, but the quality of ingredients is worth it...you can really taste the difference. I had a great experience at 208! Seated quickly, staff was helpful with wine suggestions, the antipasti (panzanella and prawns) was fresh and tasty, pizza (diavola and prosciutto & arugula) had good Neapolitan-style crust and quality toppings.

A bit pricier, but the quality of ingredients is worth it...you can really taste the difference. The atmosphere downstairs was great, very upbeat and crowded, but we never felt rushed and stayed for about 2 hours just enjoying the wine after.

Looking forward to trying to fine dining upstairs!

I went to restaurant once last week and ordered the sardines and the prosciutto pizza. The sardines were okay but the pizza was fresh and chewy - and I couldn't find a better pizza eatery in town. We also ordered a few glasses of wine and the wine was a bit over-priced. The pizza was so yummy that I recommended to my other friends and suggested that we'd go there again! Knowing the location is quite far from Central or any business areas, I did not make a reservation. I got there around 1245pm.

The pizza was so yummy that I recommended to my other friends and suggested that we'd go there again! Knowing the location is quite far from Central or any business areas, I did not make a reservation. I got there around 1245pm. The restaurant was only half-filled and the lower level was not opened/empty. I asked for a table. The manager told me that if I didn't make a reservation, they will not accommodate us. He claimed the restaurant is fully booked and refused to let us sit downstairs. How inflexible is that?! He didn't offer either for me to come back at a certain time or if I wanted to wait, the time required. He just basically shoved me out of the door.

With that kind of service and the price I am paying, even though the pizza is good, I would not want to visit the restaurant again! I also wouldn't recommend anyone to go!

My first impression about this place was pretty good. The decor and style were quite impressive -- rustic, contemporary and chinoiserie. But after standing at the door for 5 minutes looking around for a waiter without being seen made me a little upset. The following experience further proved that the service in this place was really a problem. The waiters didn't really care where we sat even there was clearly better table available. They also ignored my question about food -- the menu indicated the pizzas we ordered have basil as an ingredient but we didn't see any. I didn't think it was a big deal but was just curious in finding out why. The waiter we spoke to said he would check with the kitchen and let us know, and then can you imagine what happened? He simply disappeared, never showed up even when we left the restaurant. The other two Asian waiters appeared to be impatient and emotionless and pretended they don't see you.

Well, talking about the pizza, my husband said it was pretty authentic (supposed to be Napoletana). But I think the pizza was average compared to the ones we had in Italy and many places in Hong Kong. Also, if you are carb cautious, you should not consider this place, as the restaurant only has thick-crust pizza. Furthermore, if you go there a little late, there is nothing else other than pizza.

I read the reviews about this place on OpenRice before I went (Twice actually -- the reviews got even worse the second time, with an average score dropped from 3.4 to 3.1) and I was a little skeptical about the place. My doubt confirmed to be right, which strengthened my trust in OpenRice.

I will never go back again and won't be surprised if this place goes out of business in a year or so.

We had ordered
Arugula salad
Homemade pasta
Chicken (with a long nice description for this dish that I couldn't remember)
one bottle of mineral water and 2 glasses of Merlot
The salad was refreshing with parmesan cheese, olive oil and vinegar dressing. The homemade pasta was delicious and perfectly cooked. The chicken (half of the size) was good marinated and served on a cutting board, such a good presentation! The sauce for the chicken was amazing and unforgettable!

It was a wonderful dining experience! We will definitely come again to try their pizzas.

The pizza's were very nice although a bit too wet. Drinks are really over priced if I am paying $60 for a bottle of San Miguel in Sheung Wan I expect really good service and it was terrible, at these prices you don't expect rude staff, some chewing gum others playing with their mobiles. Managers seemed to be friendly enough but it was the junior staff with bad attitudes and that would be the reason I won't be going back. Classified and the Press room are closer to Central and about 1/2 the price
