I'm rarely around the Prince Edward area, so since chance brought me here today, I decided I HAD to try the #1 rated restaurant on Openrice in Prince Edward.
I arrived around 3:10 pm, hoping to get fresh pineapple buns right out of the oven. When I arrived, there were 2 pineapple buns left. I asked the lady if there were any fresh ones, and she told me to wait for a few moments. 5 minutes later, the baker carried out 2 huge trays of steaming hot pineapple buns. I gave her some money, and voila, I was in the possession of a scorching hot bun.
I've seen many locals squish their bun before eating it. I never understood that, as that just makes the bun dense. I prefer tearing fluffy pieces from the bun and putting it into my mouth. MMM.....I burned my finger doing this, but it was worth it. The super fluffy insides, combined with the crispy top......in my mouth...was pure heaven. Of course, the lard in the bun probably helps with the wonderful taste and texture as well. Oh well, having one once in a while won't hurt.
I guess it's really hard to screw up a hot bun, but I gotta give credit to the shop that they can keep on churning out so many pans of these buns everyday, so that customers can get steaming hot buns almost anytime of the day. Thumbs up!
