As I had dim sum with my aunt and uncle, they decided to come here as it was convenient for them. Out of the all the Maxim restaurants, this one has one of the nicest views of the ocean with a price tag to match. So, perhaps I expected something better?
Menu is in English and Chinese. Prices were a bit more than other Maxim restaurants. Even the tea charge was $16 per person. So, we ordered four dim sum (char siu buns, shrimp rice rolls, deep fried dumplings and taro cake) and a plate of chow mein.
The place was very nice with a wonderful view of the harbor. The dim sum was ok. Not great but not terrible. Though the steamed rice roll, the skin was a bit too thick and doughy. I did take photos but for some reason I can't seem to find them on my phone. The taro cake was not overly starchy which was good as I hate the starchiness of taro. The char siu bun was great. Bun was soft and fluffy.
The chow mein order was misplaced, however this was rectified when we asked very promptly. However, there were a few tour groups that day and it seemed the staff focused entirely on them. Service of our food was delayed. Or it was hard to find any staff to help us out. Tea wasn't even refilled. For the price we paid, It seemed we could have gone to another place and had much better. Even another Maxim's without a view would have been better. The food was ok. Nothing to really complain about but nothing to make me go wow. Service was fairly absent or they were too frazzled with the tour groups to make much notice of everything else. For all this, I definitely not come back to this one.
