I enjoy the view of those HK-style crusty and compact old buildings when enjoying Japanese buffet with my mother right after I am back from Thailand for my 27-day escape from Hong Kong. Finally home! And also finally some decent meat after the half-vegetarian lifestyle in Chiang Mai!
The price (upgraded version: 250HKD/~24 euros) per head for a popular Japanese All You Can Eat Buffet is average in pricing, and the foods served are also acceptable. I am very delighted to see they serve my favorite sword fish sashimi, which in their menu they rename it as “white jade toro”. This particular sashimi is quite fresh. They serve sashimi very quickly and they don’t downsize the amount I ordered for the ordinary. They also serve drinks and wine efficiently.
I am impressed with the courtesy of the staff. Japanese buffet in Hong Kong is always like a time race---- too many customers to serve within limited time. Their service is not perfect, but I appreciate their manner and willingness to apologize when they missed our order and when I need their help. Always up on guard when I need them so I never have to wait!
Recommended/Like:
Sword fish sashimi--- quite fresh, my favorite!
Chicken soup with ginseng--- one of their specialties which are up-to-standard.
Plum wine--- they serve unlimited iced cold plum wine and sake (hot or cold). Japanese beer Asahi and other soft drinks available. They serve drinks very efficiently and I really like the plum wine there--- girls would like it more as it is not as strong and choking as normal plum wine which usually masks its sweetness.
Sticky rice cakes with sweetened cheese stuffing --- they are not oily at all. Foreigners should immediately fall in love with this food, like me. Soft like a cushion, crispy surface, sweet and enticing melting cheese inside----unbeatable.
Lamb chops with thyme--- they taste well with thyme.
Shrimp Tempura--- here the size is smaller than average but they put a lot of pepper and salt in the flour paste. For me I enjoy a lot.
Environment: unique Hong Kong style view of crusty old buildings of colors of pink, purple and yellow. Neat interior.
Fried rice with eel--- it’s very very lovely! The bouncy Japanese rice is already sweet itself, together with the sweetened soy sauce and eel, they fried it just right.
Service--- courteous, always up on guard, they really care about customers feeling. It’s nice they can keep this spirit in this always busy working culture.
Others/Improvement:
This buffet is not bad, and also not very positively impressive. They are up to standard. The freshness of the sashimi is so-so yet acceptable. The octopus and Hamachi sashimi are too dry, way below average. Salmon sashimi is alright, for which they do not serve the best part of the fish--- not fat and sweet enough. For nice sashimi I strongly recommend Daikiya for Japanese buffet.
The sushi, stir-fried angus beef and beef skewers are alright. Other dishes are not impressive at all at its price, but the disappointment can be compensated by the few options on the menu that I appreciate.
When they are getting busier they miss the orders of the customers and make mistakes quite often, but the staff are courteous.
Same as other Japanese buffet restaurants, the tables and seats are very small, arrangement very compactly in a limited area, but I do enjoy it because it feels to vibrant in hustle and bustle, resembling Hong Kong itself.
