I'm a fan of the palmiers at Fine Foods, usually I'll have a quick tea here when I drop by when I restock the palmiers. If you have never tried the palmiers here you should definitely have a go cos it's the best palmiers that I've ever tried in HK! They're light, crisp, full of buttery aroma and not too sweet : )I've tried a range of their products (not all of them yet, sadly) and here are my humble views:1. I've tried a range of their products (not all of them yet, sadly) and here are my humble views:
1. Strawberry napoleon: I suspect there was problem with the storage, or the syrup on the top part was too heavy. Anyway, the supposed-to-be crispy top layer of pastry went soggy. Fail. Custard was in reasonble sweetness. Strawberries a bit too sour. Bottom layer of pastry was crisp but not as buttery as the famous palmiers, it was a bit bland indeed. (If you are a fan of napoleons, better reserve your quota for Tony Wong cherry napoleon!)
2. Japanese Kyoho grape jelly: too sweet, a bit artificial, but I'm not a fan of kyoho grapes to start with (detest fruits with unnatural flavors). Not recommended.
3. Japanese white peach jelly: in the contrary this jelly cup was a gem! Super natural flavor of peach, with a tinge of natural sourness. The peach topping didn't look good (looked a bit too ripen) but it tastes sweet with a full peachy aroma : P Yum yum yum.
4. Blueberry cheese cake: the quality of the blueberries were good but the combination was a bit over-the-top. The macarons might have given a more high end finishing but they were too sweet and 畫蛇添足。The whole cake was a ?mascarpone based moussy cheese cake with a layer of blueberry jelly sandwiched in between, with a blueberry jam coating. Overall the blueberry-containing items were all too sweet and gave you a ribena kind of taste. Not recommended.
5. American cheese cake: simple, not too sweet, not too strong normal sort of American cheese cake. I do prefer stronger flavored ones so I have to say I'm not a fan.
6. Rose macaron: another recommendation on my list! It has a very high end appearance adorned with a petite edible rose. Readily gave out rosy aroma when served. Raspberries were super sour and balanced out the macaron's sweetness. Storage was decent and the macaron bit remained light and crispy : )
