It seems a decent burger in Hong Kong costs at least $100. Why is that? As a Canadian, I just want a decent burger that doesn't cost so much but what can I do? Well ... look for places that cost less and give me at least a decent burger.Kabo Burger (Chinese name: 嘉寶小食) is originally from Kwai Chung. Kabo Burger (Chinese name: 嘉寶小食) is originally from Kwai Chung. Serving decent burgers for a decent price, they decided to open another branch in Tsim Sha Tsui. I have never been to the one in Kwai Chung. I only read about this one from a magazine so I was curious and decided to try the Tsim Sha Tsui branch.
It's located in the middle of a number of Korean restaurants. It's not very big with one bar-like table facing the window and a couple of small tables.
Menu is in Chinese but they have an English menu upon request. There is no 10% service charge. All burgers cost on average $50 with meat options all interchangeable. Add $15 for a drink and fries combo. Or upgrade to sweet potato fries or a salad for only $5. They also serve snacks as well.
Cheese Beef Burger ($36). Originally boyfriend wanted the one with portobello but as they ran out, he added $8 for mushrooms. The size was not too big and not too small. There was a generous amount of cheese as you can tell. The beef patty was pretty good. Moist and tender mince meat patty. The bun was a bit on the soft side so it was hard to keep it all together in one bite.
Grilled Pineapple and BBQ Sauce Chicken Burger ($36). This is what I had and I liked this better than the beef version (though boyfriend liked the beef one more). The chicken was one piece of chicken steak. The grilled meat was moist and still juicy. The pineapple was sweet and the BBQ sauce was seemed like a mix of worcestershire and Hoisin sauce. A typical BBQ combination. Again the bun, though tasted good, wasn't strong enough to hold the burger together.
Sweet Potato Fries ($5 combo upgrade). As boyfriend ordered one combo ($15), he added $5 more sweet potato fries. These were crispy and pretty good. Super sweet and not too salty from the seasoning,
Mozzarella Sticks ($10). He ordered this for me. Mozzarella sticks! The coating was ok, not too thick but the cheese didn't really stretch much. It had an odd chalky taste. I don't think I'll order this again.
The burgers were pretty decent and at a very low cost price. At the price of McDonald's, I got a really good burger with fries. It may not be Butcher's Club but then I'm not paying $100 for my burger. So, yeah ... I'll be back.
