There are many MANY chicken hot pot places in Hong Kong but the 米走雞 (English name: Running Chicken) is a bit different in that they add cheese to their chicken. So, for lovers of cheese, this is a pretty good place to be.They have several locations in Hong Kong and I've eaten at some of them before. So, when boyfriend suddenly proclaimed it had been a while since we did chicken hotpot and we were in the Kwun Tong area. Scanning about we found a branch right in this very area so we went there.Lo

Located in a building called The Wave is 米走雞 Live (English name: Running Chicken Live). We were wondering why they added the words Live at the end. Would there be live chicken running about? Apparently, no.
When we arrived, we found that it shared the same door as Mini Friday (a restaurant/bar). Actually, it has two entrances and people did enter and get a bit confused like I did. They'll ask you if you want Western or chicken hotpot and will direct you to that half of the restaurant.
This branch is a bit different in decor than the others. This has a stage where live band plays. I guess we weren't here when there is a performance but they do have live shows.
They also have an extensive drinks list with happy hour prices.
Unlike the drinks list which was in English and Chinese, the food menu is in Chinese only. But generally, you choose e your soup base: cheese or Sichaun spicy. And a whole chicken or half one. You now can determine if you want more or less cheese. We went with a half a chicken with less cheese ($168).
After you eat the chicken, you can then do the hot pot part. The ingredients are in the form of a check off piece of paper.
They have a few items to create your sauce as well. Not a lot but at least the basics.
So, this is our pot of chicken with cheese. We let it bubble away until it was ready and the staff will remove the lid. Th chicken was moist and tender. Simply delicious The cheese melted and coated the chicken well.
A jug of cheese broth is given to us to pour into the pot when we were ready for the hot pot portion.

What is hotpot without beef. This is US prime ($138). It was a pretty good quality. It wasn't overly fat and had a strong beef flavor.
We ordered random balls ($88). These included squid, pork, beef, fish and pork with shitake. The balls were good but the squid wasn't that great. I think the best one was the pork with shitake.
This is the random mushroom plate ($42). Include was shitake, enoki, slices of king bolete and white flat topped mushrooms. These were fresh but the best was the bolete as it had a nice hard texture that soaked up the soup well.
I also ordered some lettuce to soak up the soup ($22). The lettuce was clean and fresh.
I always seem to enjoy Running Chicken and it's cheese soup base broth. The ingredients are always clean and fresh. Seating is comfortable and not cramped. Will try to make it to a live performance next time!
