Probably one of the last trips to Japan was a trip to Hiroshima where we did a day  trip to Onomichi. It was there we had their famous ramen. Onomichi ramen is popular for using a rich soysauce based broth with a generous serving of pork fat. Yes, the whole bowl was layered with pieces of lard. It was definitely different. That is when we found a place in Hong Kong that serves this type of ramen. The interior was narrow with the kitchen in the back. They have seats facing a wall along with regular tables.

Menu is in Chinese only. There is no English though they do have a photo of what to expect. Ordering is by scanning a QR code that worked fairly well. Basically they offer two types of ramen: the regular soup kind and tsukemen. They offer two broths: the original pork soysauce and a spicy shrimp version. Pork fat is added. However, if you want more, you just add a bit more money.

Boyfriend noticed a good price for the Sapporo so he decided to get a drink. The beer was on tap and costs only $38. I had a green tea cider ($18) because if there was going to be a lot of fat, I wanted something to balance it out.

I had the tsukemen ($98) with the signature soysauce based pork broth. It came with a piece of nori, a whole egg and some cabbage.

The noodles were the thick kind so it clung well to the soup. Portion size was a lot as well. A lot more than other tsukemen places. The egg was lightly marinated and the yolk was still soft.

The broth was very thick and rich. You can taste a bit of the fish along with the pork used in the soup. There were bits of lard floating on top.

The soup also had the charshu sliced up and there were many many pieces. Interestingly they didnt serve it on top of the noodles like most places. I guess to really get as much fat content in the soup as physically possible. The bamboo shoots were also found in the soup so it was super salty as it soaked up it all up

Boyfriend had the spicy shrimp ramen.  There was a layer of pork lard on top. There was also a whole egg as well as jews ear and diced red onion. The soup was a quite spicy with a light taste of the shrimp.

There were two kinds of chashu. This is the pork belly. Nicely roasted and well amount of fat to melt in your mouth.

The other one was pork loin which I liked more. It was thinly sliced and very soft. It had a more intense taste.

Portion was quite generous. We agreed that it was rare to find a place serving a whole egg and at no extra cost as well. Place was clean and tidy. Service was fast. It's a nice place to go if we ever miss a bit of Japan.
