秘 (English name:  Secret Chefs) is a small Japanese style steak house in Tsuen Wan. Serving gyukatsu (deep fried breaded steak), it always has a long line whenever we walked by. But today was the day boyfriend wanted to eat here! We headed there before the shop opened at 6 PM and waited.

The place is very small. Menu is in Chinese only but they have photos of all the food. Basically, they offer various options to grill your steak on a hibachi stove. You can create a set by adding money for rice, egg and soup. Food comes out very fast. All our food came out within in minutes after placing our order.

This is the gyukatsu where we chose  rice, soup and egg ($146). A hot hibachi stove had a piece of fat on top to oil it up.

The gyukatsu was placed in a happy face.  The gyukatsu was cold so we assume that everything was prepared ahead of time, thus food came out so quickly. The coating was crunchy and upon grilling, the beef was ok. Not great but good none the less.

We also chose the angus steak and rice, egg and a soup with a goldfish dumpling ($166).

The beef here was much better. A more intense flavor and a lot more tender. I have no idea why they placed the salad with raw meat. I assume they don't expect us to eat it.

We added extra to upgrade the soup with a fish dumpling. This was actually nicely made. The dumpling had three small shrimp balls in it. The skin was  bit thick but it was cute none the less. The soup had a more shrimp taste than the other soup without the  dumpling.

There was also an egg included.  It had a nice runny yolk. But not much flavor. The rice had way too much furikake. I wish they just gave us plain white rice.

We shared an appetizer of soft shell crab ($58) as his mother wasn't too hungry. This was mediocre. It was crunchy but that was about it.

Food was ok and not overly expensive. Yes, not as good as what one could get in Japan, but good none the less. Ventilation was extremely poor here. There was so much smoke from all the people grilling their meat. It started to hurt my eyes after a while. Plus, they were in such a rush to get you out as they kept throwing in more flame starters to increase the flames in our hibachi grills to make the flame even larger. But it clearly wasn't needed. It was almost like they were trying to get us to eat faster and get out so another round of people can come in. May be back. But we saw they have another branch in Jordan so may go to that one instead as it's closer.
