It seems to be a common trend with the Pirata chain that most of the menu may start off strong, only to end poorly and going downhill from the main course onwards. It wasn’t our first time at The Optimist, either generally or for the Restaurant Week deal. This was probably the most average experience at The Optimist. Starters: Broken Eggs with Iberico Ham, Chorizo with croutons
Main: Rib eye, Salmon
Dessert: Berry “cheesecake”
Highly recommend the broken eggs, runny yolk with potatoes and salty ham, perfect combination of flavours and textures. Chorizo was nicely spiced.
Rib eye was cooked alright, unfortunately served cold. Salmon was decent, good cauliflower side dish and flavourful sauce.
Dessert was the worst, which came in the form of liquid cheesecake. Tasted fine, but certainly not as described and not within the normal expectations of “cheesecake”.
Service was good, bread basket and delicious aioli. Overall a decent deal, despite the runny dessert.
