約左好耐 終於係今晚約到班friend一齊食呢個法國私房菜,我真係恨左好耐既啦,Very Happy and Excited!!!係銅鑼灣返工,過黎灣仔都只係一個站,出左地鐵站行左一陣就到啦。法國菜出曬名係慢既啦,所以我地都做好左食好耐既準備,順便可以傾埋計呀嘛!啲野食比想像中好,而且樣靚味正,西餐果然係高級啲,啲味出黎都係特別啲既,個湯好正,飲完翻尋味!擺野食既碟都好靚,有乾冰令到啲仙氣飄下飄下!個雲吞都好特別,個餡好正。個甜品都好正,朱古力一直係我既喜好!值得再黎

我印象中嘅法國菜除咗款式靚設計好冇其他野啦,不過今日比我遇到嘅法國菜除咗款式靚仲要係味道好既, 10分難得,可能我寫嘅嘢唔夠詳細三言兩語都解釋唔到,不過今日黎食嘅嘢相信可以一世都會記得,沒齒難忘,我食個十幾樣餸,每一樣都會好食,但令我最深刻嘅係檸檬型嘅爆炸糖甜品,點解,因為令我諗起杜汶澤套戲叫咩名我唔記得,不過印象深刻,如果你識嘅人一定要食呢個有好好嘅程度即10分,最好係帶埋女朋友一齊你相信佢果晚會好開心,錫晒你

Summary: A new location in Wan Chai for my favorite private kitchen in HK. Beautiful and delicious French (sort of) dishes along with great service and BYOB. Doesn’t come cheap but worth it for HK.

Private kitchens have a certain cache in Hong Kong; it’s already so dense and hard-to-explore here, and private kitchens are EVEN more so. They do have their appeal: intimate and attractive for small groups or couples, they SHOULD  be offering special dishes that aren't meant to be mass-produced. Free corkage is standard, and that flexibility to pair unusual food with your own wines is obviously awesome. That said, in most of the private kitchens I’ve tried, the food usually doesn't match these ambitions, and their price points can’t be justified. Of the 4 or 5 I’ve tried, most have been pretty much average for the price, and some considerably below that.

On this scale, Les Saveurs is an excellent private kitchen. Service is great, and you get a fine dining (with some HK touches) experience that is both tasty and memorable (yes that means IG-worthy). I'd call it French food, but only in the most general sense... the Asian influences are many and obvious. Les Saveurs is expectedly accommodating for wine and have great glassware (if that matters to you). Their new location can’t possibly beat their first (which had an unobstructed view of CWB Harbour), but it’s cozy and quiet (private you could say). Service is attentive but not obvious - excellent in other words.

It only offers a single tasting menu per night that you have a few options for. Here’s what we had:

Chilled Clam with plum shaved ice – Liked the concept but though the shaved ice was too sweet and cold to mix well with the milder clam

Choice between Scallop and Smoked Salmon:
Scallop Ceviche with Crab roe, Apple Puree and Quinoa – Sounds like a busy dish but nicely apportioned so that the balance between the tart apple puree works with the richer fish roe and scallop. I recommend you try the salmon if you must choose though (FYI you can get both for an extra $100)

Smoked Salmon with caviar - served in a showy made-for-social-media-way, but the smoke actually deepens the slightly cured salmon and adds a woody finish. Pink inside and perfectly seasoned, this is a great appetizer.

Lobster and Sweet Corn Bisque – fabulous lobster flavour with a hint of sweetness from the corn. A perfect course after the colder appetizers

Langoustine Ravioli – getting exciting now –slices of truffle, a bit of red cabbage salad, and a sublime foie gras sauce (foie gras is cruel!)
accompany a delicious lobster raviolo. This dish works on every level – the slightly sweet cabbage salad works to offset the richness of the ravioli and sauce (which are both cooked perfectly), and the flavour of each bite (you only get a couple of bites) is incredible

Choice between Lamb, Steak (extra charge) and Fish of the day
Honestly, I found these good but not very exciting, so I’ll let my terrible pictures do the talking. A common theme for the whole meal is the beautiful plating.

Overall, at 788/head before additional dishes (e.g. steak or taking both appetizers) it isn't cheap. However, held up against other private kitchens and mid-high-end restaurants (with drinks), it’s a reasonable price for the quality of the food and service. For larger groups, it’s a strong value with the free corkage, and there is enough variation and complexity in the dishes to complement whichever wines you choose. 

The one “drawback” is that because of its size, I don’t believe the menu changes often (the first time I came 3 months ago, most of the menu was similar) so you won’t probably won’t be visiting every week. That aside, I recommend Les Saveurs for special occasions or wine nights, and frankly, for being the one private kitchen that doesn’t get caught up in itself and is ACTUALLY good. Give it a try!

We were first presented with bread and amuse bouche. There was croissant and some plain bread. It wasn't spectacular but acceptable. 
The amuse bouche was much better than expected. It was mushrooms adorned with thin truffle pieces and scrumptious jelly underneath. Certainly a decent beginning to our 4-course lunch.

Red Prawn Carpaccio with Yuzu sauce

The first appetiser was the Red Prawn Carpaccio with Yuzu sorbet and Yuzu sauce. The red prawn was fair on its own. Undeniably, it was innovative but yuzu and red prawn weren't that great a match. The freshness of the prawn and the slight sour taste of yuzu didn't blend well together. The presentation wasn't particularly nice either. Nevertheless, if tasted on its own, the yuzu sorbet surely added a refreshing touch to the appetiser.

Our second appetiser was the Angel Hair with Caviar. Neither of us harboured great expectation for it but it turned out to be such a gem. The rich and mildly salty caviar added marvellous taste to the pasta and the dish was presented in such a delicate and nice manner.  The purple crispy bit certainly gave an appropriate touch of colour to the dish.

One should never miss the signature dish of a restaurant and as a foodie, there isn't a chance in the world that I would forgo this. Well caviar again. 
Being freshly smoked, vapor was coming off our final appetiser when it was presented. This undoubtedly added to my anticipation. 
The salmon was superbly tender and caviar was once again a nice touch to the salmon, both aesthetically and taste-wise. This is the highlight of our meal.

Here comes the mains! The puree and vegetables were artfully and tastefully positioned but the presentation of the two mains are disappointingly similar. I had expected a bit more creativity in this aspect. The iberico pork was fatty, tender and extremely delicious. The roasted chicken, on the other hand, was rather mediocre. The chicken leg, however, was a surprise since the chef seemed to have added an Asian twist to it.

Finally it's time for some dessert! I never have much of a sweet tooth but dessert is still such an important element to a decent meal. I was glad that the staff remembered the special occasion. The tart was adequately but not overwhelmingly sweet. Though lacking a wow factor, it was still a decent dessert.

I seldom order the cheese platter but since my company strongly despised sourness, while another option was a lemony dessert, that left me with no choice but to order this. I adore cheese but I guess I will never be a blue cheese lover. The raisin and dried apricot provided a much appreciated intermission between different types of cheese.
Lastly, tea and coffee was served and we finished our meal with a full tummy.

The lunch set was indeed very reasonably priced since one got to relish the experience of fine dining at a mere price of about $300. Definitely recommend it. It would be better if the ambience and lighting could be improved.
