Practicing the art of true gastronomy one seeks joy from good food. This time the service has much improved and although we arrived near closing time the staff were still welcoming and warm. Chose a 3-course menu which started with a very pretty ravioli with edible flowers; it tasted refreshing and was a feast to the eyes with the translucent coat and flowers. Practicing the art of true gastronomy one seeks joy from good food. This time the service has much improved and although we arrived near closing time the staff were still welcoming and warm. 

Chose a 3-course menu which started with a very pretty ravioli with edible flowers; it tasted refreshing and was a feast to the eyes with the translucent coat and flowers. The cherry cold soup was nice with a consistency similar to tomato cold soup according to my dining companion. 

The cod fillet was handled like the traditional Japanese oden with soup and a turnip base - interesting but it covered the natural flavour of the cod completely. The steak was not "bleu" as per request but was reported to be edible and not too tough. 

The dessert was crepe with green apple sorbet. It was dainty and crisp in parts - slightly marred by some of it sticking to the plate (likely due to flaming it under the plate). A stark difference from the usual earthy rustic Brittany crepes. The honey mandarin cake was slightly dry but I liked the mandarin peel - lending body and flavour to it. The coffee was laudable - brewed like a true first-class eatery should. 

The price was very reasonable for this excellent meal and a special mention must be given to the staff for commendable service.

Disappointed last week as this salon de haute cuisine declined even takeaway orders after the till closed. Therefore when payment was suggested in form of desserts from this place, the task was impossible to turn down. As the saying goes - 人為財死,鳥為食亡 - I'm probably more avian than human. The far from satisfactory service (considering this being a renowned restaurant) kept us waiting for almost a quarter of an hour before settling our takeaway order. I could see why some patrons were disgruntled.

The far from satisfactory service (considering this being a renowned restaurant) kept us waiting for almost a quarter of an hour before settling our takeaway order. I could see why some patrons were disgruntled. 

Here comes the desserts, starting with the less remarkable. In spite of the pleasing dome shape, the rose mousse cake was of the genre one can find in any patisserie. The opera was more chocolate than coffee - my personal preference was for an opera to be "mocchacino in cake form"; the base was too sweet and it was short on the espresso. The earl grey was laudable in the sense that it actually tasted of earl grey tea, yet it was still a shade trop sucré and it should go stronger on the bergamot. 

The pear cassis was very fresh with a memorable dash of sirop de cassis in its centre; unfortunately the texture was slightly soggy. Both the chocolate banana and the salted caramel ranked highest in this first encounter; the former was in an elegant dark dome and one could taste banana when biting into this succulent decadence, whereas the latter was an outstanding marriage of salt and caramel - enhancing the caramel aroma but keeping the sweetness in check. 

One has to hand it to the maestro for brilliant desserts after all.

聖誕前下午與朋友聚一聚,來到這家在圓方新開的知名餐廳。可是門口的服務員用不友善的態度話不能淨嘢,沒有散叫,只能叫貴D的tea set. 最終都試吓,但5個人只能安排坐4人枱。食品佈置精美,味道不錯。 可惜整體服務水平及消費體驗麻麻。

一頓稍為失望的午餐絕對沒有令我們對 Le Salon de Thé de Joël Robuchon 失去信心,至少我們對她的糕餅依然充滿憧憬。最愛仍是這款半圓球形狀的伯爵茶慕絲蛋糕,慕絲做得幼滑軟腍,外層少許海綿的質感,帶出淡淡的伯爵茶香,加上鬆脆的朱古力餅底,效果非常吸引。同樣出色的還有這款啤梨焦糖蛋糕。外表一樣是用朱古力粉密密封著,但內層卻夾雜著精彩的朱古力慕絲、軟滑的焦糖醬和新鮮的啤梨肉,口感相當豐富。各種材料的味道配合得天衣無縫,跟早前的伯爵茶慕絲蛋糕同屬水準之作!相比之前的輕食,還是較為喜歡這裡的糕點吧!

同樣出色的還有這款啤梨焦糖蛋糕。外表一樣是用朱古力粉密密封著,但內層卻夾雜著精彩的朱古力慕絲、軟滑的焦糖醬和新鮮的啤梨肉,口感相當豐富。各種材料的味道配合得天衣無縫,跟早前的伯爵茶慕絲蛋糕同屬水準之作!

搶先地點了招牌芝士漢堡飽、配鮮炸薯條。漢堡肉特別採用日本的黑毛牛肉炮製,再加上芝士醬、車厘茄和小酸瓜後,入口倍覺惹味。同樣欣賞新鮮炸的脆薯條,配搭茄醬一絕 (4/5)!

但除了漢堡飽之外,其他菜式有點叫人失望。我們尤其對這裡的薄餅抱極大的期望,多款薄餅當中,揀選了材料豐富的海鮮薄餅,但效果意外地失準。

薄餅的餡料包括有蟹柳、青口和魷魚,配上芝士醬和中央的太陽蛋,賣相的確不錯。但可惜菜式整體的味道缺乏方向,海鮮的味道不鮮,芝士醬不濃,雞蛋亦熟得差不多完全沒有蛋漿 (2.5/5)。

最後一道菜最初選了黑鱈魚,但侍應回答這天沒有鱈魚,因此迫不得已改為巴馬火腿配意大利飯糰

意大利飯糰只輕輕煎了底面,中間的意大利飯還是軟腍,跟飯焦一起吃,口感特別,但驚喜不足。整道菜唯一值得一讚的是面層的意大利巴馬火腿,火腿的鹹香濃郁撲鼻,跟味道單調的飯糰總算匹配 (3/5)。

Only recently opening a branch in IFC, Elements now have their very own Salon de The too~ Happy happy for Kowloon-siders!Compared with the others, the one at Elements occupies a much bigger space with the enclosed area giving more of a restaurant feel. Again gorgeously decorated with the striking colours of their signature black and red, it certainly looks classy~As we were seated, the server specially pointed out their new menu

As we were seated, the server specially pointed out their new menu for crepes something I haven't seen at other branches so of course we had to try.

Bread was served first, a selection of three soft and warm from the oven. My sister and I both thought the cheesy herb roll was the best, with a mochi-like chew and it just smelled so good!

The salmon crepe arrived as a big enough portion to be shared among two people. It looked so simple, yet the flavours were anything but... Chunky slices of potato baked to a melting softness, layered with smoked salmon and sprinkled with dill all surrounding a barely cooked Japanese sun egg. I loved how thin and crisp the crepe was allowing the actual flavours of the filling to shine through and best of all it didn't have the pungent odour of buckwheat which I really dislike.

I wanted to try the chicken risotto, but it was unavailable that day so they suggested I try the chicken burger which is also a new item. First bite and I was smitten~ A fluffy bun hugging two pieces of pan fried chicken fillets with avocado (love!), tomato and lettuce. The chicken was really juicy with a crunchy crust and despite it being a burger I felt quite healthy eating this
The burger is already tasty enough on its own, but they do have an accompanying egg and caper sauce which became my dipping sauce for the crunchy french fries.

The corolles pasta was an accident since they placed it on our table by mistake. However when we told them, they let us keep it anyway. A mound of al dente pasta scattered with French ham cooked in a creamy butter sauce. Definitely comfort food and perfect for the upcoming cold weather.

My sister having had a marvelous croque monsieur from another place, wanted to try the croque madame after seeing it on the menu. A toasty hot roll filled with a thick slice of french ham, sunny egg and smothered in melted cheese. Mmm~ the oozing yolk, slight saltiness from the ham, richness from the cheese and the pillowy bun... such simple ingredients, but combined together make for quite a yummy mouthful. If I worked at Elements this and a cup of their Blue Mountain blend coffee is what I would want for breakfast~

Although they have some new cakes on the menu, I only wanted my beloved salted caramel tart while my sister chose the citron tart to balance out the sweetness of mine. The richness of the chocolate and burnt caramel never fails to please, while the pleasant sharpness of the lemon was enough to pull me out of my caramel induced haze

So satisfied~ the crepe and chicken burger is really worth trying and although we were too full for coffee this time, there is always next time... preferably paired with a sweet crepe ;)
