I loved the Frites on Pottinger St which was probably my most-frequented restaurant in HK. So I was curious to see if the branch in Quarry Bay mainted the quality of food and special atmosphere of that branch.
I'm happy to report that the food was as good as the previous branch. Making a change from the reliably good muscles, I had a seafood pasta while my party had steak, lamb and pork knuckle. All portions were very large and rich, and many couples could share a single main, perhaps with a side of charcurerie or the excellent frites (i.e. french fries).
The beer of course is delicious and this is a true mecca for beer lovers!
The servie was very friendly, encouraging a relaxed holiday brunch feel rather than an business lunch efficiency.
My major problem was the spill-over between the childrens' play area to the side of the restaurant and the restaurant itself. It's great that the restaurant is so welcoming to families, but they should realise that most people don't like listening to the screams of others' over-active under fives while eating with friends. It's a shame that parents are happy to allow their kids to run wild, but the staff need to step in and remind them that their children are not the only ones in the restaurant.
Hopefully this wouldn't be a problem on weekdays or in evenings.
Apart from this, the location inside a huge office atrium is slightly wierd, but the effect it softened by the decorated wooden walls and bar.
So likely I won't return to this branch, but I'm looking forwards to the new one on Wellington St in Central!
