After trying many great dim sums in HK (like One Dim Sum, Dao Xiang), i was definitely expecting another amazing experience in Lin Heung Tea House. After trying many great dim sums in HK (like One Dim Sum, Dao Xiang), i was definitely expecting another amazing experience in Lin Heung Tea House. On the contrary, i got the worst experience and i will never patronise this place again.

The place was packed when i was there but i got a seat immediately as a group just left. After observing that there are no waiters to take orders and i have to appraoch the dim sum carts to get my food, i quickly made my way towards the carts (i have no issue with this as we do have a few restaurants adopting this format of food serving too in Singapore). However, i was disappointed with the choices that were available. Whatever is avail are definitely not appetising at all. What's left are some buns, chicken feet and some strange looking dumplings were available. Well, i did came at the off-peak hour at around 2 plus so i took it in stride and took some of the dim sums back to my table to try.

However, the food is AWFUL!! the chicken feet is cold and tastless, which leaves me to wonder if it was even cooked in the first place. The buns were cold as well so it was not appealing to me. I made a second attempt to get more food but came up disapppointed again (a lady cut queue to snatch the last siew mai from me! anyway, the siew mai does not appealing too, maybe it was better this way). The rest of the food was just as bad.

Then, i realised that there are some food items that i can order so i decided to give it a try, in case the bad food was due to the limited food choices remaining on the carts. However, the crispy pigeon which i ordered was even worse. It was again cold and it was so salty. It really felt like leftover food which was cooked by some amatur apprentice. the fried mee with prawns was the only decent food as it was the only dish that was still warm.

On top of that, the place was a dirty mess. I know that this place has a long tradition and it pride itself in staying true to the authentic cha lok feeling, but the place could do with better cleanliness. It was a scary experience and i don't dare to look at the place too much, as i am afraid of what i may find. Before you say that i am a cleanliness freak, let me explain that i have eaten at Sheng Xiang Yuen (Da Pai Dang) a stall on the streets with tentage above and i have no issues with that.

Lastly, the service was bad and it made me feel like they were trying to get us to leave the place as soon as possible.
题外话/补充资料: Anyway, i just want to post this review to warn all of you of the experience so that other people do not have to go through what i went. The experience could be much better if i went during lunch or break hours but i will never have a chance to find out for myself as i will never step into this restaurant ever again!

Chicken roll (4/10)
This was the first time I ate this. It was kinda similar to cheung fun, the chicken was very tender and full of flavour, one of my favourite dim sum today.

Lotus and pork bell bun (2/10)
The lotus was rather bland; the flavour only came from the pork belly. The pork belly was very tender, loved the texture. However, the bun was too thick and doughy.

鯪鱼球 (4/10)
The fish ball was really smooth and it wasn’t fishy. It was still bouncy when you bite it, you can sure it was freshly made!

马拉盞 (4/10)
It was a classic Cantonese dessert. The莲蓉 was filled in the bottom of the马拉盞, the马拉盞 wasn’t too sweet, and hence you still can taste the 莲蓉. The马拉盞 was very spongy, wasn’t hard at all.

I loved the buzz in the restaurant, people is always on the move, chasing after the trolleys for fresh dim sum. The dim sum is delicious, I am pretty sure I will be back from time to time.

Party of 3 we went to 連香熡 on a weekday afternoon at around 2 p.m. It was still quite busy and we waited 5 minutes until offered a table. First, I really enjoy eating at this olde type dim sum restaurant. I enjoyed looking at people lining up for the dim sum served in a metal cart. Within minutes, all the dim sum basket in the cart were gone. The good thing about this is that I know every dim sum is fresh and hot enough. However, I find the setting to be a relaxing respite a loud and happy dining experience.

The food quality is indeed quite good, given its relatively cheap priced in relation to nowadays rising food cost. Some of the food are on the oily side but it was tasty. My only complain is their 燒賣. They overcooked the meat and the texture is a little dry. Other than that, the rest are GOOD!

I would definitely visit 連香熡 again, for the fun and interesting experience.

難得8:00am係上環一帶, 就到老字號蓮香樓飲早茶. 未去之前都已有心理準備這種舊式酒樓不會太乾淨, 可惜現場環境比想像中還要差. D杯杯碟碟一定要自己洗乾淨, 唔係用滾水沖二三下就算, 一定要大力摔摔摔! 尤其是d碗仔, 冇一隻係唔會有漬, 佢仲要係乾左黏住一舊硬哂, 好肉酸 d水又熱又滾仲要自己出力洗, 真係未食都已經唔開胃! 食物方面, 好彩有兩個朋友仔出去攞點心, 唔駛同人迫. 但坐係到都不是十分自在的, 你要好小心抱住自己個袋, 身體盡量唔好觸碰到任何東西, 因為椅 (有d椅背係破損哂), 地板, 牆身甚至鼓油樽都會見到d污漬的, 真係要好小心先得! 豬膶燒賣 – 冇食 白糖糕 – 不是特別好食, 面頭仲見有兩粒黑點, 要挑走先好食粉果 – 過鹹, 皮厚蝦腸 – 蝦ok爽, 但皮太厚, 唔滑, 鼓油唔香, 未食過咁難食既腸粉鮮竹卷 – 冇蠔油味, 同出面食果d 有d唔同, 味道怪怪的但又未至於唔好食馬拉盞 – 雖然得一丁點蓮蓉, 但已經覺得係全檯至美味既點心, 夠熱又夠香, 好味! 3個茶錢加埋around $120, 不是好平, 但以此食物質素, 環境衛生… 我搵

一路無黎食飯嘅原因都係因為驚佢地方唔乾淨因為今次阿媽叫到想黎食,先黎試吓黎到見到有唔少人企喺樓梯邊我又見唔到周圍有類似reception嘅地方就行過去收銀嗰度問原來係收銀做埋reception...唔問真係唔知我問完之後即刻有另一個人行埋黎留名...但係佢名名早過我企喺樓梯...等咗一陣就有位,叫到個menu已經完全感覺到懷舊feel我哋叫嘅都係大路野炸軟殼蟹好好食,唔油,食落又唔會成口炸粉,絕對係推介之作鴨片豆腐,賣相唔錯,豆腐幾滑,鴨片唔會覺得太硬或者太淋腐乳通菜有一般嘅水準,可能因為我鍾意食通菜,所以無停口啫啫雞煲,一上黎就好香,雞肉幾好味,可惜太多骨,無乜肉食...埋單唔洗100蚊一位,又唔洗加一,抵!

看到這個包分開後餡料也沒流出,就知那醬汁有多濃淍吧。那鹹中帶甜的半肥瘦叉燒,配上傳統的大包,真的不得不佩服中國人的調味功力,蠔油跟蜜汁可以融合得那麼完美!那蒸熟的包皮雖然有點厚,但總算軟硬適中,實在教人忍不住大口大口地吃。

第一次用juicy來形容燒賣,如果漢堡包的漢堡可以用juicy來形容,那這件燒賣的肉料實在是它的三倍美味。咬一口,從那皮薄餡大的燒賣內溢出的肉汁實在是教人感動。雖然這兒的豬潤燒賣很出名,但始終怕外國人未必接受到這種特式內臟小吃,所以沒有點。

這個糯米雞份量不少,荷葉包著綿密細軟的糯米,內裡有雞肉、豬肉,鹹蛋黃,冬菇等。那濃郁的芡汁的把那米飯跟餡料混合在一起,入口濕潤而鮮香,除了軟綿之外我想不出更好的形容詞了。

讓了給人客品嘗,自己反倒沒吃到,有緣下次再聚吧。

魚翅餃
WWF支持者可以請先跳過這一段。雖然個人也不太讚成殘殺鯊魚,但難道在這吃個魚翅餃都要求走魚翅嗎?這又不是魚柳包!那魚翅早跟那蝦肉,火腿跟豬肉等配料一起醃好包好在的透薄的餃皮內,吃完這件鮮美的餃才回家替那可憐的鯊魚祈禱吧。

甜綠豆粽
糯米內混入了綠豆,所以吃下去既有豆香,亦有糯米飯的甜美。那煙韌的糯米沾了白糖後,甜而不乾澀,每一口咬下去都是溫熱而甜蜜的感覺!就算知道這是脂肪的滋美,我也是敗給它了...就讓我在幸福中增磅吧。粽子的米飯不帶任何粽葉的怪味,請應該要多得清洗乾淨的粽葉,這正是我媽在家包粽必做的步驟之一。

煲仔飯
入口時已放涼了,感覺那飯粒有點乾硬了,而且那豉油也不算太出色,所以吃了一口就放棄了。

吃到這我已經有點飽了,因此馳名的蓮蓉包、馬拉糕等都只是淺嚐了一口,不見特別之處,棉花雞跟腸粉也不覺得有啥特別…可能真的各人口味不同吧。看到有些食家抱怨這兒的點心賣相跟服務態度,於是也多口問了一下外國友人意見,得到的答案是"不覺得侍應有問題","很有傳統風味"


各位來之前不仿先問一下自己想要什麼,如果要美觀的點心和殷勤的服務,這兒絕對不是你杯茶。但如果你已厭倦了倒模式的連鎖店,想在這城市中找回一點懷舊的情調,感覺一下沒電腦點餐,沒有侍應齊聲向你問好的樸實感覺,這兒絕對是大城市中的主題樂園。

Built in 1926, the Lin Heung Tea House has not switched from the old ways to modern ways. It kept the traditional Chinese restaurant style, from the decor to services to food. It is one of the tea houses that remained in business over the decades.
At the entrance is a gorgeous sign of the restaurant's name. There is a counter selling Chinese tea leaves when you first step in. Then there's a staircase leading up to the dining section. While the entrance is gorgeous, the dining area is sort of a bit contrasting. The restaurant is buzzling, and a bit crowded. The chatters of people and busy waiters roaming around and pushing out dim sum carts. It's a place fully indulged in the old buzzling local atmosphere and culture. The decor is very simple, with white fluorescent light and fans hung on the ceiling. The plain white surroundings emphasized the antique-style wooden tables and chairs, which shows a hint of elegance.

'One cup and two pieces', a common colloquial saying, refers to drinking tea while enjoying dim sum. Drinking tea is a prominent part in the custom of going yum cha at a tea house for Chinese people. The purpose of drinking tea is to settle your stomach when having dim sums and facilitate digestion. Therefore, the first thing as you sit down at a table, you are asked for which kind of tea you would want for the meal. This remains the same custom nowadays, but in the past, people usually use bowls and saucers for drinking tea instead of using a teapot like we do these days. Here, as a traditional tea house, offers the traditional way of drinking tea as well. Nonetheless, to the convenience for some people, they also offer teapots too. The waiter asked us which way we would like to use, and we, not wanting to make a mess, picked using teapots.
Once settled with the tea and dim sum card, we set off seeking dim sums from the carts. It would be an exciting experience to many who'd never or seldom encounter such old-style tea houses or restaurants. It was also an amusement to watch people crowding at the dim sum cart to ask and get dim sums.
We were only seeking some small bites so we merely grabbed three dim sums back to our seats. First is the Pork Liver Siu Mai. The siu mai are not like the ones we normally see which are wrapped in a yellow layer. Instead, it's a big piece of meat shaped like a meat ball and topped with a large piece of pork liver. Such kind of siu mai, without the yellow layer, is not exclusive but it's not very common among restaurants in Hong Kong. I personally think that the flavor of the meat can be tasted more clearly in this way. The siu mai here are indeed a delight to have. There was a pretty distinct freshness of the meat, and it sort of gave an al dente texture as you bite it. The pork liver was good too, but not exactly flabbergasting.

Then we had one very typical Chinese dim sum --- the Chinese Sponge Cake. The loaf was of a decent size. The faint aroma of the cake was tingling and totally adoring. The texture of the cake was really spongy and fluffy. As for the taste, it was really pleasurable to find it not over sweetened.

Last but not least, we had the Chinese Sausage Roll. I personally was not fond of this dim sum as I have had a terrible one in other places before and it was such a nightmare that I don't really want to try it. However my friend convinced me to try a bit so I did. It turned out much better than I expected. The bun's soft and very warming. The flavor of the Chinese sausage was not too overwhelming, just at the right strength of flavor, with a hint of sweetness that made it savory.

Was the food flabbergasting? I dare not say so. It was great but not stunningly great for me. Yet it was a really special experience to have dined here. Even though it was not exactly cheap to dine here, I'm still glad that I've come as it had given me a chance to see, know and experience the traditional tea house. This place made me feel like I have been back to the old days. It is most exhilarating to see that such traditional means have yet to be forgotten, and I'd like to pay my respect for keeping all of these tradition and customs and allowing modern people to have the opportunity to feel it.

咕嚕肉的肉用得很好,沾的粉很薄,不會咬下過一口粉,雖然沒有彭慶記或得龍的香脆,但每件都掛汁但沒有過多,吃下去又不會覺得太熱氣,好吃,同煮的青椒菠蘿也很好吃, 大部份的菠蘿應該都被我吃掉了吧!

飯後再來一碗甜湯,是熱的綠豆糖水,吃到那份海帶香,夏天吃綠豆糖水消消暑,一絕!

最意外的是小姪兒竟然食不停,我們大人就更高興了!

『炸輭殼蟹』是非常好吃,有蟹肉的大輭殼蟹不是隨處有得吃!我們立即encore了一碟!

Went there for lunch today with my friend! Wow, it was so crowded already at 1pm!!!!Service was definitely crap, but it was expected! haha! But seriously, the dim sum here is soooo cheap, definitely worth going if you don't mind the crappy service and crowded area!!!!We ordered the following dishes:1) 揚州炒飯 ($50): very big portion! We ordered the following dishes:

1) 揚州炒飯 ($50): very big portion! Wow, big enough for 3-4 people! It was a bit wet and not oily! Lots of barbecue pork! Pretty ok
2) 叉燒包: it was really nice! Big and the barbecue pork didn't taste oily at all! Good dish!
3) 千層糕: soooo nice!!! Highly recommended: the filling inside is the best!
4) 馬拉糕: not bad, pretty ok
5) 鯖: not bad either
6) 腐皮巻: very delicious
7) 蝦蛟: nice prawns! Nicely steamed
8) 燒賣: same as 7) - nice prawns and nicely steamed

This place is definitely cheap!! We had so many dishes and ended up just paying $166 for 2, i.e. $83 each!!! So cheap!!!! Definitely worth it if you don't mind the crappy service and the crowded seating!!!

Will definitely go there again though for dinner, which can be booked! The food here is generally pretty good, cheap and not too oily! A bit too crowded though and it's better to go there as early as possible to get a seat

Funny thing is, after having all of the above dishes, I didn't feel stuffed, which was great Service can be improved though. Some of the waitresses looked very 兇...

整體來說雖不設加一, 但點心價目還算偏貴, 每次點心車推出來也要跟其他人瘋搶一番, 也不是特別好吃, 或許... 就只是為了那種懷舊風味吧~ 不過不得不讚的是伙記及點心師傅們都滿臉笑容, 也熱切的為茶客找位子及添水, 推點心車的婆婆笑容很可愛XD 這裡的確是有種親切的感覺, 不過食物真的很一般...

至於鵪鶉蛋燒賣, 蛋略兼不夠香, 燒賣純粹是豬肉..ok 啦!

题外话/补充资料: 多人找位較難 建議早到步早拿位,不過點心出爐時間不同 有時太早去不會見到所想的點心 建議一問大約喜歡的點心出爐時間!
