I haven't been to Marriott Cafe for dinner buffet for a long while (at least 2 years). Last Saturday, I was invited to join in K's big family gathering there (really a big one as we occupied 3 large tables having a total seat no. of 21). The purpose of this family gathering was to celebrate her grandfather's b-day (80+ years old). When her grandfather spotted me on the table, he immediately "greeted" me, saying that my whole body had "inflated" since the Chinese New Year a few months ago. Sigh... My appetite dropped suddenly, but just for a while. The food served on the buffet bar totally erased my memory of all the comments regarding my body.
Environment:
The cafe is situated on the balcony of the large hotel lobby. In terms of the view and the seating arrangement, the cafe is not as good as the lobby lounge downstairs. Inside the lobby lounge, you may enjoy the spacious environment due to the extremely high ceiling. On the other hand, it is unavoidably compromised when you are sitting on the balcony. Nevertheless, it's still a comfortable place to dine in.
Taste:
There is a variety of dishes served on the buffet bar, ranging from fresh seafood, sashimi, salad, to cooked food like steak, fish, veggies, noodles and congee etc. The dessert bar is the ladies' favourite and always attracts their attention. I highlight some for your reference. Oyster is small but fresh with very rich oyster flavour. Personally, I prefer larger oyster in spite of the higher risk of plagued oyster. Lobster - again it is a small one. However, it retains a strong flavour of lobster with a premium-graded texture. I had three halves of this awesome lobster. Beef - it is layered with fat and meat. However, the juicy texture is only limited around the slice periphery. It is dry in the middle. Custard - I mention custard instead of a specified dessert as the custard is really great and it adds the finishing touch to all the desserts with custard. For example, the strawberry napoleon is one of those that you can't miss. Strawberry is big and juicy. Some customers did not appreciate it and left it on the dessert bar. What a big waste!! Thus, K and I "collected" the "loose" strawberry and slowly enjoyed it on our table.
Service:
The attendants were all well-mannered as expected. However, the cafe was a little under-manned. We often requested them to re-fill our teapot.
Price:
I needed not pay (^o^). It's around $398 per head + 10% service charge. You may enjoy 15% discount with HSBC platinum card. Dinner buffet with a cost over $250 is a norm. Taking into account of the food quality, it's worth spending a little more than $400 to enjoy a dinner buffet in Marriott Cafe. There's a second choice if you think it's too expensive for you. The supper buffet provided by Marriott Lobby Lounge is also a good one. It starts from 8 PM on every Friday and Saturday nights. The food served is also of premium-graded, though you will have fewer choices on the buffet bar. The cost is around $170 per head + 10% service charge.
Cleanliness:
JW Marriott Hotel is a 5-star rated hotel. Its cleanliness is guaranteed. Seafood was fresh and none of us had any discomfort with our tummies afterwards.
