We were in Tai Kok Tsui and decided to check out this little dumpling place. We were very happy with our choice.
It was the tail end of the lunch rush, but the two of us were seated quickly and we chose from the set menus.
We ordered a dan dan mian and some pork dumplings. When the dan dan came out we were a little surprised, as the menu shows a picture of actual Szechuan style dan dan mian, but we were given the ubiquitous Hong Kong version. Having had bad experiences of HK dan dan, we were bracing ourselves for a shrimpy laksa rip-off. Luckily, the baby shrimp were in a pile, so I extracted them and their beady gaze from the bowl with ease. The rest of the dish - great! No shrimpy taste, just a peanutty richness that really satisfied. While it was not the authentic bowl of Szechuan noodles pictured in the menu, it hit the spot.
The dumplings were good also. They had a nice texture, good filling to skin ratio and tasted good dipped into the chili sauce.
As far as value goes, this joint was really good. Our total bill was around $75 for the two of us - can't say fairer than that.
