When my parents and I lined up for Tim Ho Wan we had too much time and decided to look for a place to get dessert after our lunch. I recall hearing about a place with “pudding inside coconut” so I decided to look it up so we could go try. Coincidentally this tiny dessert joint that makes them, 甜入心, was just a few blocks away from THW.It was around 3pm when we arrived so the restaurant was fairly empty. It was around 3pm when we arrived so the restaurant was fairly empty. I guess most of their businesses come from the after-dinner crowd so we were considered one of their early customers. In fact, we were so early that it seemed like half of the menu weren’t ready yet – it took us several tries to finally find something that they currently serve.
We noticed that there was chocolate fountain and a fruit tea dispenser at the entrance, all free for customers to enjoy. The fruit tea was a thoughtful touch – can’t say much about the chocolate fountain since it was, you guessed it, unavailable =.=
-It was nice eating the young coconut flesh from the sides which was very soft and refreshing
-However, I don’t really see how the two components complement each other, flavour-wise. Other than the novelty of eating a pudding out of a coconut shell this dessert in general didn’t really stand out to me
Vanilla Soufflé with Fruit Salad
Mango Napolean
-Presentation was sloppy and as you can see there were pieces of mango on the dish. Not sure how they expect us to eat this mille feuille-style because we pretty much had to dissect it and eat it layer by layer
Overall, the desserts are very average including the crème caramel in coconut shell. It’s probably the novelty factor that attracts people to this shop – I wouldn’t visit again.
